Could somebody please pass a modesty gown to Leann Rimes, post haste! The word has been excised from her lexicon.

That is why I watch everything on Youtube. I pay $12 a month and no commercials. I have that service. YouTube without commercials is worth it. I have my cable service with a DVr hooked up to it. Really helps with the endless breaks in football games. I DVr everything. A time-delay lifestyle.

My cable box even marks in yellow where the commercial breaks are so I can speed right past them.

I agree with the consensus that Weezer's performance was a little underwhelming. Which is a shame because I actually really enjoyed their album of covers they did a few years ago. They also did their own song paying tribute to the band appropriately titled "Beach Boys". I think it just boils down to "California Girls" being the wrong song choice. They could have at least included the iconic intro (unless they did and it was just edited out for television). They should have swapped songs with Hanson and done "Barbara Ann" instead. Perhaps they could have done a version of that song lively enough that even AGD wouldn't completely hate it (no promises there)!
And the song selection was pretty safe for the most part. Instead of tributing Dennis with the baffling "Do You Wanna Dance" (a song that wasn't even originally by the group), they could have gone with "Forever" instead. People would have some familiarity with that song thanks(?) to Stamos.

People would have some familiarity with that song thanks(?) to Stamos. Do You Wanna Dance was kind of interesting. I think You Are So Beautiful would have been good. But they had the footage from DYWD and I kind of expected more of that playing in the background. Forever, definitely but at what risk - all that jealous blowback to Stamos. (Yes, I said that!) Who needs that? I agree on the Hanson thing as well. Hanson knows the catalog pretty well. The thing with LeAnn Rimes I noticed was that her legs looked to me as though they were shaking toward the beginning of Caroline No. I think she was really nervous at the beginning. She is Kokomo generation. And she could have been "styled" by production or had her own stylist - the dress could have left a "little more to the imagination" but with lighting and zoom camera close-ups that can be kind of invasive, it may not all have been her choice. But the show got really good ratings even on Easter evening with 5.18 million viewers notwithstanding being pushed back nearly an hour after that sports event. So, I'm nitpicking a little (not really since it was successful and gave the band overdue kudos) but you can't argue with success. It was tight and fast moving. Good for iconic. They got that visual of the whole band sitting together, smiling and having a good time. I would have loved to have seen the rehearsals - those bands must have been so nervous, knowing that, "No one does Beach Boys' music better than The Beach Boys."

Weezer did not do the opening of California girls, so nothing was edited out for the TV show :in fact the only thing I'm thinking of is the Pentatonix arrangement of Heroes and villains. I'll have to closely compare the YouTube with the one that was on there because they structure the song differently than the original and I don't remember whether that was their choice or something done in production.

So, watched it (minus ads), here's my brief thoughts song by song: Help Me Rhonda-Little Big Town: not bad, but the bvs are too low in the mix (this was a general thing). California Girls-Weezer: um... inoffensive verging on obnoxious.
Sail on Sailor-John Legend: although he let rip at the end, far too smooth.
Barbara Ann- Hanson: no. just... no. Brandi Carlile- In My Room: first highlight, splendid.
Wouldn't It Be Nice-Charlie Puth: somehow unconvincing in a way I can't put my finger on.
Don't Worry Baby-McDonald/Take 6: Take 6 should have done this on their own. They wouldn't have cocked up the words. Warmth of the Sun-Norah Jones: second highlight, different but stunning. Do It Again Foster the People: loved it ! Surfer Girl- Lady A: as others have said, this may have been post-dubbed. Somehow lacking. Do You Wanna Dance-Fallout Boy: possibly the programme highlight, Dennis would have loved it !! Sloop John B. - Beck: pedestrian. Caroline No. -LeAnn Rimes: 50% great, 50% OTT diva. I Know There's an Answer- Mumford and Sons: confusing. Darlin'-Andt Grammer: boy was having fun, and so was I. You Still Believe In Me-St. Vincent: highlight #3, great heartfelt rendition. Superb arrangement. I Get Around-My Morning Jacket: so much hair ! Not a highlight. Heroes and Villains - Pentatonix: oddly disappointing, was expecting more of them. Surfin’ USA/ Fun Fun Fun Luke Spiller and Taylor Momsen: I surprised myself by enjoying this. Jim James/Beck- Good Vibrations: Probyn on tannerin ! That aside, disappointing. God Only Knows-Brandi and John Legend: she knocks it out of the park again, he dials it in again. Overall, it was far better than I expected, and the house band were outstanding, especially the drummer. Stamos was... Stamos. When it was good, it was occaisionally great, and the low spots were soon over (Weezer, I'm looking at you). Goes without saying, great to see the band together again for the first time since 2018 (and possibly the last time). Dave was cooler than the other four put together. Brian... yeah. Brian. It's a worry. All in all, the main thing it did was to remind us just how great this music was, and remains. And that The Beach Boys sing it best. Agree with most of these, except for "Do It Again" by Foster the People. Difficult to say exactly why I disliked their rendition, but there you go. "In My Room" was great; went straight for the heart.

When the Smoke Clears the ones I want to listen to again and again are Caroline no ,in my room, and you still believe in me.
And don't worry baby I was very surprised not to hear a version by Take 6 of Mike's famous and wonderful bass vocal part in the chorus which is on the lyric, "now don't, now don't you worry baby." I thought with all those great singers up there that someone would hit that wonderful bass part or baritone part or however it's performed. But I just don't hear it. 😕

"Don't Worry Baby" was done by Michael McDonald and Take Six. It was part of the show when it aired in the US -- has it been edited out of the streaming version? McDonald was OK but had trouble with the lyrics, Take Six was stellar.

McDonald was OK but had trouble with the lyrics, Take Six was stellar. No excuse on the lyrics. Come on. They have gyp sheets - and everyone uses them and monitors. But, I agree with Andrew on Take Six who should have had more tracks. What I think they would have been incredible, with was something from the doo-wop stuff as well as the a cappella (And Your Dreams Come True) which was completely ignored. The point is the vocals, and do-wop and a cappella most showcases it. That, I don't get unless in their defense, it was a time thing.

St vincent, you still believe in me. Not I just wasn't made for these times. I simply misspoke. Sometimes those two prosaic titles get switched up in my head. My error!

So I watched the first three songs, and got quite bored. So far, there's nothing different enough from the Beach Boys arrangements to interest me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be worth skipping to, for something more interesting?

You got to watch the whole show and then make your judgment , though there are plenty of notes above where people point out preferences, as I have pointed out mine, and it's going to be a matter of opinion what's a creative rearrangement or a profanation. You can't go wrong with in my room and you still believe in me.

So I watched the first three songs, and got quite bored. So far, there's nothing different enough from the Beach Boys arrangements to interest me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be worth skipping to, for something more interesting? There are some very small skerics to enjoy - some vintage footage and voice over's from the band members, inc Carl & Dennis - nothing new, but quite well done and with some level of gravitas, I thought; actually, made me hungry for an updated Endless Harmony or similar doco/mini-series. I noticed Alan Boyd got a special thanks in the credits, so perhaps he provided some key guidance (perhaps not, I wouldn't know). I did enjoy seeing the band watching from on high - Mike seemed quite touched and teary (unless it's his allergy thing) in some spots, and Bruce was his usual amusing and genial self; although there were times when I was thinking were they thinking wtf for a couple of numbers. The back-up band was actually pretty on point and did a great job- while the singers and song choices were not to all likes (mine included), at least their general musicanship added some quality. And guess what, the stage decoration and the main kinda banner thing for the event reminded me of the Endless Summer album art, the fleshy lush jungle tones of foliage opening up to an impossible shoreline - a nice touch. Watch a bit of each song, you never know what may tickle your pickle! The 3 acts I enjoyed (from first place to third) were: - Mumford & Sons, I Know There's An Answer - as we know, The Beach Boys attract a broad church of disciples, and for my money in terms musical likes/dislikes/opinion/appeal, this band showed a real affinity for the original material, while also desconstructing the song and making it their own. Not to mention a "deep cut" getting an airing. - Norah Jones, Warmth - the intro before the band & back-up singers kick-in, is pure gold; I wish Norah soloed the whole thing. - My Morning Jacket, I Get Around, was pretty lively, imo, nothing new in terms of interpretation but really provided some actual Rock to the proceedings. The rest, meh, and special warning to Beck fans, all of his contributions are to be avoided, he's a loser, baby - again imo.

Oh my God yes of course recorded for all of eternity. It's streaming on Paramount plus and will later stream on MTV so use whatever resources you have there in Austria and find it. In the meantime there are most of the performances individually filmed with hand cell phones at the event itself on youtube. You need Paramount plus I believe right now to stream it officially. Good luck

Overall, I agree with AGD's assessment of the evening, with very few minor exceptions and one notable one. I thought God Only Knows was godawful.
