I thought it on the night and I'll say it again that Weezer is was just absolutely terrible in California girls. I'll tell you it was just really a dud. Just a terrible college band arrangement. If I ever earlier reported that it was okay or anything less than dreadful then I regret that but I'm not sure. I agree. They didn't even bother to do that fabulous, iconic introduction!

Rick where does that photo come from? I saw it being taken from the other side and wondered when it would ever get posted and it really is wonderful. Thank you. Filledpledge mirrors my current reaction so admiration and gratitude for that eloquent statement. Bottom line is I'm glad I went and I'll be happy to watch it a couple times though few performances I'll just leave in the background or won't focus on. If It Means A Lot To The Beach Boys themselves then it means a lot to me, and it was really piece of living history to be there and to hear all the commentary by the scholars and fans here. I'm not really sure, I nicked it from 'reddit', and said, 'Thankyou'. It's the only 'other' image I've seen of the group together from that night.

I think that's a great photo as it's very real and in the moment, and I remember seeing it set up and the boys walk over there and everything so it's fantastic.
But I wonder why there was not a photographer assigned to the event, an actual photographic shoot. I talked to the guy who was assigned to Mike the night he did the interview at the Grammy Museum and I don't know what we're going to get here and whether there was an official photographer.
These photos here were taken with cell phones because I remember seeing a few people in the Inner Circle with their cell phones out. So I hope that there's going to be a real dramatic record of this, hate to say it, maybe last time we see all five Beach Boys, those who reunited in 2012 for a worldwide tour, together

COMMENT:
A Grammy-Salute to The Beach Boys, long overdue, but well-received and certainly deserved. I was entertained. You can always pass judgement, but in the end ...
Quote of the season:
No one does Beach Boys' music better than The Beach Boys.

My daughter, Effa Briarstem Pflug, the product of my current marriage, perhaps, or of a predecessor, some future marriage or of a mere tryst, loved the show, knew all the performers, and appreciated the performances. She is hopeful the performances will be made available for purchase or theft.
This is the great value of these tributes - the young folks grow up with deep respect for the band and for the music. None of this addled dismissal to which Phyllis Page so correctly refers.
It occurs to me I have no present wife, or if I do, she has gone missing among the artifacts. I must check.

You know the Beach Boys had four number one hits. Three were played last night. I thought maybe there will be a grand finale with all the acts on stage to sing the fourth.
An All Star Choir singing Kokomo!
But alas it was not to be
I was crushed . . .

Mike posted a heartfelt comment on his IG account. Bruce's name is left out. A mistake, I guess?

It’s hard to imagine Mike agreeing not to perform or even speak. But it may have been to avoid thrusting Brian into the limelight in whatever condition he is in. Hence not many photos either.

Sounds Of Summer (2022 three disc) Number 8
Pet Sounds (vinyl) Number 20
The Beach Boys Greatest Hits (2012) Number 27

Pet Sounds (CD) Number 56

Well after reading all of this, I am going to skip viewing this. Not a fan of any of the artists save Brandi and only for getting Joni to perform. I’ll listen to the boys play the boys, as Mother Nature intended.

I'll say at the outset that I really enjoyed this. I'm at least a casual of most of the artists that performed, and a big Weezer and Fall Out Boy fan. That being said, I wish they would've dug deeper. "Do You Wanna Dance?" is a great production and arrangement, but obviously neither a Brian or Dennis original. "Barbara Ann" is O.K. as closer, but I'm not a fan, personally. And, we all know Pet Sounds is THE greatest album ever made. But, six songs devoted to one album for a band that has so much back catalogue is a little much, even if they were all respectfully, and sincerely presented.

Photo of Mike and Brian together is very touching and I'm so happy to see it after gazing at my picture taken from the other side for a couple of months now. I do hope there is some commentary and I have to check to see what Mike said on Instagram , and how they all related to each other at that special moment of unity will really be the subject of curiosity and interest and study.

This did not look like that kind of event. Brian did not perform at the Kennedy Center Honors. Someone else does that performance work while they sit because they are the honorees.

Well I believe Paul Simon played at his, and many years ago a similar event for Sinatra ended with him taking the stage. And I understand that Brian is not performing these days.
But I will tell you that if the beach boy band itself joined with Dave and Al had taken the stage at the end of the night at the Dolby Theater and played real Rockin versions of fun fun and surfing usa, instead of the pretty good medley that those crazy kids put together, it would have been epic.

That is true but Amazon is showing two separate entries--the one at number 2 is the 2022 update with the remixes and the one at 100 is the original 2003.

Not according to Amazon. Why they don't combine the formats, I do not know. In any case, SOS, the Platinum Collection and the Greatest Hits are all separate releases

I can't say it better that the last paragraph in filledeplage's post. What a tremendous and well done show. Some iconic artists, some I had never heard of. Whether they made the great songs there own or played as original, they were all done with great care, love and respect. Did anyone check out the cello and theramin in GV? Totally legit. Did anyone notice (actually I read in the credits) the amazing Probyn Gregory played the theramin, French Horn, guitar and vox? No way to recognize him with the lighting and having a hat on. I wonder if he had any input on the arrangements/production? Jerry Schilling and Alan Boyd were also thanked in the credits. For anyone having doubts about this, stream it with a good surround sound system, crank it up, and enjoy some of the best music in the world. Shows like this will introduce the world's best band to many new and young fans and will keep the music alive. Thanks to everyone involved with this great tribute!

Bbfinfl has written very concisely in this last post and I am in complete accord. If I seem critical now it's because I was somewhat reconsidering things which In the Heat of the Moment were so overwhelming to experience, and I wanted to be Discerning about those who I thought rise to the level and those who performed in some pedestrian or uninspired way, but my overall feeling about the shows is that it was exactly that, respectful and full of reverence and a tremendous way of honoring the Beach Boys and contributing to their legacy. It's not on Paramount plus yet or at least it wasn't this morning but I'm going to check.

I looked quickly as the camera swept across the stage and glad the credits mentioned Alan Boyd and Jerry Schilling. It was a real full-circle show. It will be on YouTube and it will be cranked! Thanks for the kind words.
