The show is now on Paramount plus and it's being streamed without commercials which is a great joy and this gives me an opportunity now to turn up the volume with the surround sound and in general to improve the experience
I agree very much that the sound quality of the show which was completely aparent at the night itself, is preserved here and the clarity of the recordings are pretty damn good and contributing to an overall feeling of exuberance and joy.
Even California Girls which I thought is a terrible arrangement sounded at least clear and energetic and therefore more appealing than my earlier condemnation though it was not the best fit and didn't really do any true justice to the song.

I can't say it better that the last paragraph in filledeplage's post. What a tremendous and well done show. Some iconic artists, some I had never heard of. Whether they made the great songs there own or played as original, they were all done with great care, love and respect. Did anyone check out the cello and theramin in GV? Totally legit. Did anyone notice (actually I read in the credits) the amazing Probyn Gregory played the theramin, French Horn, guitar and vox? No way to recognize him with the lighting and having a hat on. I wonder if he had any input on the arrangements/production? Jerry Schilling and Alan Boyd were also thanked in the credits. For anyone having doubts about this, stream it with a good surround sound system, crank it up, and enjoy some of the best music in the world. Shows like this will introduce the world's best band to many new and young fans and will keep the music alive. Thanks to everyone involved with this great tribute! Comment to filledeplage & -4 bbfinfi: I agree wholeheartedly with you. Very high production values. Having been involved with live mega-shows such as this, I am always astonished and amazed at how seeming-without-flaw these real-time productions come together. You have no idea how much technicality is behind one of these presentations. And this one was no exception. The technical talent to pull it all together into one working event is just astounding. I'm so happy that Brian and all my friends were able to attend together!

On Paramount plus version-- and I don't know how it ended last night on CBS-- it ends abruptly at the end of God only knows when Brandie and John Take a bow and they cut out the great coda of the show when Brandie, as I have described before in these pages, finally motions to the beach boy and shouts to the crowd, The Beach Boys!, and the house came down.
I cannot believe they cut away and ended the program without that important coda and therefore without ending the program on the Beach Boys and about the beach boys. Despite the greatness of the production which Steven talks about with great historical expertise, they really blew it for me at the very end by not having a tangible, concrete and dramatic ending. I don't know what the director was thinking in cutting to the credits so soon after the end of the song without any real sense of closure or completion.

No such thing - Sounds of Summer was released June 10th 2003. That is true but Amazon is showing two separate entries--the one at number 2 is the 2022 update with the remixes and the one at 100 is the original 2003. My entire and complete apologies - for some reason (age, stupidity or both) I read that as 2002. As my mate Adam would say, I am a moron.

Isn’t that effectively three albums – Pet Sounds twice, Sounds of Summer/Platinum Collection x 4; and Greatest Hits? Not according to Amazon. Why they don't combine the formats, I do not know. In any case, SOS, the Platinum Collection and the Greatest Hits are all separate releases The 2005 3CD UK release is called The Platinum Collection: Sounds of Summer edition and if I may quote myself from 10452, "This is a compilation comprising (mostly) top 40 hits in non-US markets, an expansion of the 40 Top 40s set that was the scheduled overseas counterpart to Sounds Of Summer." So yes, a seperate release.

Hi all, As an 'international' person, it has been difficult to view the occasion, so the reviews here have been a wonderful look into the night that happened. I have 'stumbled' across a copy of the evenings events, so if your like me, and would like to get a glimpse of the celebration, please drop me a line and I may able to help...

I watched the event, and I was more impressed than I thought I would be. The show was well done considering it was the 2023 'Grammy' people, which I would never put a lot of weight into, but the presentation was pretty neat. The backing band were tops! The arrangements were original, but had a current feel to them and the musicianship, quite stellar. Was this because Probyn had a helping hand? It was a 'nice' tribute, but still, after viewing, I kept hearing what filledepage said..... "No one does Beach Boys' music better than The Beach Boys."
Right off the bat, the song selection overall, was pretty well thought of. It's not a brush against the other artists, I'm sure they meant well, and some were better than others, but end of the day, it's the original guys that made the music that really adds to the sound, the feel, and the whole shebang. People knock Mike, but his lead vocals are the bomb to The Beach Boys sound. Falsettos? Seriously? You have the man in the house that defined rock n roll falsetto (apart from Frankie Valli)
I might be alone and I'll take the daggers in saying, I think the event was a little female heavy. I could not really get into Leanne Rimes doing 'Caroline No', and I like Leanne, I think I even own her 'Blue' album from decades ago. That is such a 'male to female' song to me, but eh? I'm old school OK, it's how I was brought up. The male/female 'Surfin' USA' duet, was pretty terrible, it just doesn't work. I thought John Legend was fabulous, Hanson could have been utilized better than using the boring generic 'barbara ann'. Nora Jones was lovely, Lady A... hmmm yeah, nice arrangement, but we are back to the too many female singer thing again. The boys just the same, did not bring a lot to the party, but, who can sing like The Beach Boys? It's not something that will find any regular watching unlike the 'all star tribute to Brian Wilson', but I am glad this was done, if just to remind and encourage the next generation along about who The Beach Boys are. It's a reminder too, our old time group, is just about extinct from this earth, and we are left with memories and recordings.
In my mind, I know I'm trying to acknowledge it's a tribute, and this is not The Beach Boys..... If this is the fitting end for the group, I'm glad to see them all together at an event in their honor. Just the same, I miss my boys...
"No one does Beach Boys' music better than The Beach Boys."

I have to agree with a lot of what Rick says, especially as, being from the other side of the pond, a lot of these ‘names’ have totally passed me by, and yes, most definitely, ‘Barbara Ann’ was a waste of quality time and i’m sure Hanson could have done justice to a different number, and the Surfin USA/FFF duet was… simply… nah… Beck also scored zero points for me, although, personally, I loved the Leanne Rimes rendition of CN, along with Mumford’s take on IKTAN and St Vincent’s YSBIM. However, to me, it was Pentatonix who took home the gold medal with, what I thought was, an inspired interpretation… Still, each to his own, and at least the boys still get some form of recognition, even after all of these years… The show was well done considering it was the 2023 'Grammy' people, which I would never put a lot of weight into, but the presentation was pretty neat. Andrew the first time I think I saw your name was on the World Records seven record compilation The Capitol Years which I still have. I bought it in 1981 even though I owned the vast majority of songs on it. The attraction was The Lord's Prayer. In the Parking Lot, Amusement Parks USA and several other tunes you could not at that time find on an American Capitol albums as Capitol had either deleted them from reissues or in the case of a song like Celebrate The News had not issued them in any form since their original release. And of course it included the Brian Wilson Productions disc with songs you could not find anywhere. So thank you. You helped fill that long gap before Capitol realized that bastardizing the original albums was not a good business model . . .

Getting around to watching it now .. as an onlooker from across the pond, I have to scratch my thinning scalp and ponder who the heck these younger artists are .. but then remember that this is a tribute. .. and as rick so rightly stated: "No one does Beach Boys' music better than The Beach Boys."
If this is a last hurrah .. I'm okay with it, but the one thing that grips my heart a little too tightly is how frail Brian looks.
Thank you for a lifetime of music Brian, Carl, Dennis, Alan, Mike, Bruce and David.

Filledeplage, You can see it on YouTube, and I must say that the sound of the house coming down was drowned out by my own screams though I am pretty sure that I wasn't alone. It was a very end of a long night of filming and everyone in the band and in the audience and all the performers were a little tired and Punchy at that point, and it was just an expression of feeling and enjoy for the end of the evening the end of the show and a final expression of joy for the Beach Boys and for all the artists there that night.

The Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys was the second most watched television program in the USA on Sunday night with an audience of 5 million plus. It's lead in, 60 Minutes, was the most watched. Billboard Magazine made the comment that the group first hit the Billboard charts in February of 1962, six years before 60 Minutes debuted.

That is extraordinary. I did not watch the CBS broadcast in its entirety, but on Paramount plus. Did anyone watch or record the actual CBS broadcast, and did it end so abruptly and omit the great moment where Brandie Carlile offers one final cheer to the beach boys?
The Dreadful thing about that CBS broadcast was the endless commercials.

The Dreadful thing about that CBS broadcast was the endless commercials. 33 minutes of commercials to be exact. A 120 minute time slot and only 87 of those minutes were the actual show.

Well the Paramount plus is like $2 a month if you have Amazon Prime, and the Beach Boys Show streaming there is without commercials and it's really much much more pleasant to watch.

So, watched it (minus ads), here's my brief thoughts song by song: Help Me Rhonda-Little Big Town: not bad, but the bvs are too low in the mix (this was a general thing). California Girls-Weezer: um... inoffensive verging on obnoxious.
Sail on Sailor-John Legend: although he let rip at the end, far too smooth.
Barbara Ann- Hanson: no. just... no. Brandi Carlile- In My Room: first highlight, splendid.
Wouldn't It Be Nice-Charlie Puth: somehow unconvincing in a way I can't put my finger on.
Don't Worry Baby-McDonald/Take 6: Take 6 should have done this on their own. They wouldn't have cocked up the words. Warmth of the Sun-Norah Jones: second highlight, different but stunning. Do It Again Foster the People: loved it ! Surfer Girl- Lady A: as others have said, this may have been post-dubbed. Somehow lacking. Do You Wanna Dance-Fallout Boy: possibly the programme highlight, Dennis would have loved it !! Sloop John B. - Beck: pedestrian. Caroline No. -LeAnn Rimes: 50% great, 50% OTT diva. I Know There's an Answer- Mumford and Sons: confusing. Darlin'-Andt Grammer: boy was having fun, and so was I. You Still Believe In Me-St. Vincent: highlight #3, great heartfelt rendition. Superb arrangement. I Get Around-My Morning Jacket: so much hair ! Not a highlight. Heroes and Villains - Pentatonix: oddly disappointing, was expecting more of them. Surfin’ USA/ Fun Fun Fun Luke Spiller and Taylor Momsen: I surprised myself by enjoying this. Jim James/Beck- Good Vibrations: Probyn on tannerin ! That aside, disappointing. God Only Knows-Brandi and John Legend: she knocks it out of the park again, he dials it in again. Overall, it was far better than I expected, and the house band were outstanding, especially the drummer. Stamos was... Stamos. When it was good, it was occaisionally great, and the low spots were soon over (Weezer, I'm looking at you). Goes without saying, great to see the band together again for the first time since 2018 (and possibly the last time). Dave was cooler than the other four put together. Brian... yeah. Brian. It's a worry. All in all, the main thing it did was to remind us just how great this music was, and remains. And that The Beach Boys sing it best.
