Brother was also the label for Sunflower, with Warner as the distributor. And yet, it was Warner’s who rejected the first lineup, not Brother. No matter what the label on the album says, it was Capitol calling the shots In fact, from 1962 to 1969, Capitol never called the shots (with the possible exception of insisting "Good Vibrations" be included on Smile - which became a moot point anyway). They just took what Brian gave them, pressed it up and, at least until the end of 1966, counted the money. You may be forgetting the timing of Capitol's release of "Beach Boys Greatest Hits Vol. 1", two months after Pet Sounds. And Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 for that matter. I believe that was Capitol's idea, wadn't it?

Yeah, but throwing together a greatest hits package is different than Brian handing in a completed new album and Capitol doing nothing more than preparing it for release.

Gettin’ Hungry has been devoured! The tribe has eaten! Burp!
Good stuff, that now evens up the numbers for Tribe A and Tribe B to form.
We will start voting off least favourite tracks from Tribe A, given Fall Breaks and Vegetables were the next weakest tracks respectively.
Pony up and poll hard!

Thus far I've voted for "Gettin' Hungry" (because... it's pointless) and "She's Goin' Bald" (because quirky only goes so far - and why do these guys have such an aversion to the letter "g" ?).

Sorry I'm late -- I get all my information about these Survivor thingies from the Shoutbox.
Well I voted out "H&V". You might regard it as the other sore thumb on the album. As I see it, "Good Vibrations" is a stand-alone 45 and "H&V" belongs on SMiLE.

Just a thought - looking at the two titles together - had Heroes been ready - would it have made a good Side B to Good Vibrations? Could it have become a double sided hit?

I've gone with "Bald…" – it always seemed a somewhat superfluous, novelty thing, until the release of Sunshine Tomorrow and its derivatives changed my view on all the Smiley (& Wild Honey) stuff. The mastering/mixes were so much improved that they presented each song in a new perspective. Thankfully, that improvement was across the board, so my opinion of each song hasn't changed comparatively, in relation to each other. (And just writing this make me anticipate FF all the more…)

I voted off heroes and villains, mainly just because I’ve never been a big fan of the song in any incarnation. It just feels like a song with tons of potential, that never goes anywhere. Not bad, its still a work of genius, but it’s never been one of my favorites.

I dislike this damn game because when we get about a quarter of the way through these albums, I really like all the songs that are left! Mikie, you should go into Survivor Mode. I couldn't play this game if I didn't. In real life I wouldn't change a note on any album -- by anybody. It is what it is.

I'm going to start off with "Vegetables". Not my favorite version of a great song. How 'bout the Smile version, Will? You like that one better? Smiley Smile is what it was. A wish, a hope, that something could come of all the work that had gone into Brian's and Van Dyke's little project. I find most of the songs work better in their original forms. But, hey, I (and you) didn't get to hear that until the boots came along in the '80s. The G. V. box-set was the real eye opener. "Vega-Tables" just couldn't be bettered. I loved the 7" single that was in the SMiLE box. And I like some of the fan mixes, too. That song about the cow was much bettered. I am glad it didn't go first round, but I won't hold onto it as the going gets tough. Loved "She's Goin' Bald". It will be a last minute decision if I could tick the box for "Little Pad" over "Heroes And Villains", love it that much. "Surf's Up" is the real missing piece. Brian wanted to hold on to everything. Brian knew damn well that we were wanting that released as soon as possible in 1967. At the same time, I think most of you know where I stand on that one. You could say not much was added, but it was perfected to the perfect way, by Carl.

I do love the percussion effects. And, "you're under arrest!"

She's Goin' Bald is set be pulling out her remaining hair, and chucking a hissy-fit, as the Tribe has just spoken sternly - She's out!!!
Some interesting results, with Vegetables and Fall Breaks in the firing for their next heat, whenever that is.
Next up, Tribe B gets put through the ringer, how will the great Good Vibrations fair, being the only remaining song title that doesn't start with W?
I'm going after With Me Tonight - great little track, but I prefer the arrangement of the bouncier version, wish they'd stayed going down that path. YEAH.
Vote FOR your least favourite track from Tribe B.

"Good Vibrations" should've been a stand alone single. It has no place amongst these other eerie stripped-back concoctions.

Voted for Whistle In because it feels more like a "snippet"(like all those unused H & V sections) than a full song. Plus the other songs are too good to vote out . Love With Me Tonight. (Loved Gettin' Hungry too). Wonderful would have to be next due to its inferiority to the first Smile version. I actually prefer the Smiley version of Wind Chimes. I agree G & V doesn't fit but I'm voting purely on how much I like the songs.
Smiley Smile is a very important album to me- it a 2fer with Wild Honey it basically made me a fan. I like all the songs on it.
