Cool snippet Carl and Brian! In a way, I'm quite jealous of you, fdp. Since I suffered Beach Boys Burnout some years back, I've avoided outtakes and alternative versions like the plague (to say nothing of live versions!) and just stuck to the basics. I have Sunshine Tomorrow (my last BB acquisition) but I've only played it once.

I've had it playing through the weekend (when the kids let me turn off Radio 1) and it's worth having blast after blast after blast – easily one of the very best CopEx releases thus far.

I have Sunshine Tomorrow (my last BB acquisition) but I've only played it once. The Sessions and outtakes are awesome - to learn how they learned by trial-and-error (just like the rest of us) but sometimes I think the outtake - should have been the released version of many of the tracks. Like the badass Slip on Through track, that was released last year. It would have even made a great instrumental track on one of the albums, since so many albums had at least one instrumental track. I saw one of those Sunshine Tomorrow shows, so I just love the release. There is so much variety and now with youtube live tracks - I have never found myself getting sick of it, and, you can hear during a lot of the session tracks that they are laughing and having fun with the material they were recording, really enjoying their work. That never gets old.

Heroes and villains might be my favorite beach boys track of all time. But if I’m considering these songs in the context of this album it doesn’t fit. Surprised to see so many votes for Little Pad, to me that is the smiley smile vibe at its very best

Well, well, well - the Tribe has spoken: Little Pad has left the apartment building and With Me Tonight won’t be (with me or anyone else tonight).
Based on the last heat, I thought Little Pad was headed for top three...never a dull moment on BB Survivor!!!
We’re down in the weeds, Tribe, go get your garden machinery ready for the semis.

Here we are, the final four.
For this semi-final, I want the Tribe members to vote for their two favourites - these two favourites will then become our finalists - which we shall discuss later.
Remember, there is an immunity idol still in play on the board - as mentioned, have fun fun fun looking for it before the poll closes tomorrow. It could give you the opportunity to upset the status quo - finding the idol gives you the opportunity to change 1 of the finalists, should you be in disagreement with the result (and you will get to know the result ahead of everyone else, as the outcome is not visible until I lock the poll).
Go hard!!!!!!!

One of Les' better projects. I'm trying to get him to clean up the Boz track, "We Were Always Sweethearts".

Go hard!!!!!!! Voters "done me wrong" going after "Little Pad". I'm looking, but you have hid that idol damn well. From what's left, my picks to move forward are "Good Vibrations" and "Wonderful".

GV and Heroes - despite its circularity and clumsiness, it somehow still feels like a breakthrough song whether it is the theme or its attempt to be lyrical and tell a story that is too big to fit in around 3 minutes. Is it rock or a trying to be a folk song? I don't know. The chorus sections are still magnificent.
On some level it could have been made to be the overall thematic framework of Smile and this American Experience and voyage, as an overall overture with repeating sections throughout the work.

I get that some fans are of the mind that GV and H&V are square pegs on Smiley Smile, but frankly, I find most of the Smiley Smile album to range from mildly listenable to terrible. The lone exceptions are the two great singles - GV and H&V - for which I'm voting.

I’ve got to vote for GV & H&V simply due to how they have affected my life since 1976. If I voted for anything else, my family would want to know how I could justify the hole in my lifesavings which these two toons triggered.

This one's an obvious no-brainer. I really do like the Smile versions of 'Wind Chimes' and 'Wonderful' though.

My vote goes to GV and WC. H&V is to me a greater composition than Wind Chimes, but there are at least three versions of H&V that I prefer listening to than this one.

The vastly superior and sinister "Smiley" versions of "Wonderful" and "Wind Chimes" have my vote.
A quote by Dennis in the Byron Preiss book: "Smiley Smile...when we put that one out we almost double-dared anyone else to try and record anything like that. Take "Wind Chimes". People just don't sing like that".

I like what Carl told the New Musical Express in 1970: "In Fort Worth, Texas, there is a drug clinic which takes people off the streets and helps them get over bad LSD trips. They don't use any traditional medical treatment whatsoever. All they do is play the patient our Smiley Smile album and apparently this acts as a soothing remedy which relaxes them and helps them to recover completely from their trip"
A bunt instead of a grand slam indeed.....but I've always really liked the album. That's all there was until a few 'Smile' tracks started appearing on bootlegs in the early 80's. The holes were filled on the bootleg Smile albums with Smiley Smile tracks, 20/20 tracks, and Cool, Cool Water.

I have this ‘98 CD obviously inspired by the 80s boots and likely the Smile tracks lifted from the GV box - www.discogs.com/The-Beach-Boys-Smiley-Smile/release/2940447Unsure if it’s boot or boutique? Any background?

HOLD THE PHONE!!! In breaking news, the hidden immunity idol has been found, and will be played before the winners of the semi-finals are announced. Hang onto your hats, friends, this is what Survivor is all about. For those who missed it, the idol was here - endlessharmony.boards.net/post/29298/thread
