A grumpy fan's rant....... (bad language ahead... block your ears)
It's a shame in a way these tracks are appearing the way they are.
Capitol/EMI could be reaping the awards right now, but they sat on their 'fat and sorry greatest hits' @ss',
and once again, denied the die hard fans what they really want.
They did nothing to warrant this material, and the stuff they used, they put through the meat grinder
and made it sound like 'shit'.
Can we use that word?
Because that's exactly what it sounds like lately.... 'Shit'.
Have a good listen to these 'booted' tracks, and they sound pleasant, refreshing on the ears,
it sounds like.... hang on.... what's that word?.... Music?
It sounds like music, performed and written by The Beach Boys.
Fans are ecstatic about the way the tracks sound and the quality as they stand.
Capitol/EMI really bombed and messed up this time, and missed a great opportunity.
You have to wonder why these people are so out of touch with 'what the fans want'!?
They clearly don't have an artistic bone in their bodies, oh wait! yeah they do,
'Sounds Of Summer' platinum edition....box sets and unreleased songs for the 22 year old' lol.
Sheesh!!!!
All they had to do was release this collection as it stands, and what is it? an already 20 plus year old set
of music that they'd hardly have to spend money on.
That's right, they have sat on this collection of material as a whole, for over 20 years, and did nothing.
The many missed opportunities.
Hell! They could have released it with it's hand written song titles and they would have sold a bunch of these things,
but.....'they' chose not to.
It sucks, because these recordings belong to the legacy and the income/business of The Beach Boys.
That bothers me, because credit should be given where credit is due.
The artistic and financial reward should be straight to the creators of this art.
This era is critical to set it in stone right, but it's not getting done right.
and.....STOP 'trying' to make The Beach Boys cool! Let the material stand on it's own feet and STOP.....'Fucking' with the formula'!
The Beach Boys ARE cool, they have always been 'cool'... For Fuck sake!
Perhaps when they realize what the fans want, they might start to look at things through a different light.
But.. Time is running out with their copyright extensions, unfortunately, they will will have to cop this lot on the chin,
which is kind of sad, because this is premium period Beach Boys material.
Maybe looking forward they may be more diligent with the material they dish out and the way it's dished out.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what people are saying about the 'official' recent released tracks with the
heavy compression, boosted treble and over the top reverb plug in rubbish and what people are saying about the 'booted' tracks.
They really don't have to make things more complicated than what they are.
That's about all I have to say about that....
...and back into the shadows I go...... Sorry Thump....
I hope I will be proved wrong but something tells me that, even after the CATP/Holland set has seen release later this year, it will still be these versions of Carry Me Home and Hard Times that I return to when I want to listen to these songs. Because they represent the true vision of those who created them. They're the songs as they were recorded and how they're supposed to sound, rather than some 21st century remix that sounds so insufferably BRIGHT that it makes my fillings hurt.
The alternate version of 4th of July that has just been leaked is so utterly spectacular that it leaves me doubly confused about the Feel Flows box-set. So not only did they choose to go completely bananas with the compression and treble for no apparent reason, but they also chose to leave tracks like this off the box and languishing in the vaults. Why??
