Here is what the great Bruce Spizer wrote about Capitol's feelings for promoting the Beatles RARITIES LP. They felt it was a LP for the nerds.

Did they run it past the primary shareholders? So the way I look at it, they caused money losses to the company shareholders as well as the band/s. Nerds? - that encompasses a large group of potential buyers of the product? “Album oriented” is a pejorative and condescending. That’s one reason why the Boys survived the late 60s on fm. It’s where the “discerning” nerds went. It is why the college tours sold so well. Nerd conventions with fans who loved the old stuff just as well. The nerds who got the best of both worlds. The dopes ate the pablum on am and followed whatever the stations told them was cool, or trendy. I can almost see some intelligent marketing strategy, adding in some tracks from the Holland era to SoS. Maybe there is a strategic attempt to get some of those greatest hits fans, to accept some of the more profound work from that era. If it is Howie, I will give him credit for that.

Yeah these Proposed Bonus Tracks are available on the good old internet somewhere. These tracks are evidence that the mixing on Feel Flows is seriously inconsistent, as Awake is mixed perfectly on this, as is 'Ol Movie etc. EDIT: clarified that Feel Flows' Awake is poorly mixed, NOT the one on this bootleg that's circulating. Where? Ha ha ha!

That's actually a Carl Wilson solo album track that was never used, nothing to do with The Beach Boys.

I got this confused with the song 'It Could Be Anything'. Sorry, and Thanks for the correction(s).

it could be anything was also not a Carl solo track. Recorded in both 1975 and 78

It feels like Christmas at the moment with all these previously unreleased tracks appearing all over the place, and all free of modern-day tampering. This is how exciting it used to feel when a new archive release appeared.

Big Sur, Awake, 'Til I Die (alternate lyrics) - they all sound so much nicer on these leaked versions than they do on Feel Flows. It really goes to show just how much the compression/treble overkill ruined so much of that box-set.

The alternate version of Love is a Woman is 3000 times better than the atrocity that made it to the album. I can honestly say that now I would classify it as being only a little bit crap.

So glad to hear a clean version of this mix, since the commonly-bootlegged version sounds overly-distorted in comparison:

A grumpy fan's rant....... (bad language ahead... block your ears)
It's a shame in a way these tracks are appearing the way they are. Capitol/EMI could be reaping the awards right now, but they sat on their 'fat and sorry greatest hits' @ss', and once again, denied the die hard fans what they really want. They did nothing to warrant this material, and the stuff they used, they put through the meat grinder
and made it sound like 'shit'. Can we use that word?
Because that's exactly what it sounds like lately.... 'Shit'.
Have a good listen to these 'booted' tracks, and they sound pleasant, refreshing on the ears, it sounds like.... hang on.... what's that word?.... Music? It sounds like music, performed and written by The Beach Boys.
Fans are ecstatic about the way the tracks sound and the quality as they stand. Capitol/EMI really bombed and messed up this time, and missed a great opportunity. You have to wonder why these people are so out of touch with 'what the fans want'!? They clearly don't have an artistic bone in their bodies, oh wait! yeah they do, 'Sounds Of Summer' platinum edition....box sets and unreleased songs for the 22 year old' lol.
Sheesh!!!! All they had to do was release this collection as it stands, and what is it? an already 20 plus year old set
of music that they'd hardly have to spend money on. That's right, they have sat on this collection of material as a whole, for over 20 years, and did nothing. The many missed opportunities.
Hell! They could have released it with it's hand written song titles and they would have sold a bunch of these things, but.....'they' chose not to. It sucks, because these recordings belong to the legacy and the income/business of The Beach Boys. That bothers me, because credit should be given where credit is due. The artistic and financial reward should be straight to the creators of this art.
This era is critical to set it in stone right, but it's not getting done right. and.....STOP 'trying' to make The Beach Boys cool! Let the material stand on it's own feet and STOP.....'Fucking' with the formula'! The Beach Boys ARE cool, they have always been 'cool'... For Fuck sake!
Perhaps when they realize what the fans want, they might start to look at things through a different light. But.. Time is running out with their copyright extensions, unfortunately, they will will have to cop this lot on the chin, which is kind of sad, because this is premium period Beach Boys material.
Maybe looking forward they may be more diligent with the material they dish out and the way it's dished out.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what people are saying about the 'official' recent released tracks with the
heavy compression, boosted treble and over the top reverb plug in rubbish and what people are saying about the 'booted' tracks. They really don't have to make things more complicated than what they are. That's about all I have to say about that....
...and back into the shadows I go...... Sorry Thump....
