New update:
Wilson's publicist, Jean Sievers, said Wilson only found out about the Safari Club gig and petition on Saturday, but that his love for animals is lifelong.
"Just look at the cover for 'Pet Sounds,'" said Sievers, referencing the photos of the band members posing with goats on the jacket of the 1966 album. "Brian has always been a big animal lover."
Jerry Schilling, who has worked on-and-off with the band for decades, said he knows about the petition but declined to comment on it.
"I don't want to get into any press discussion about this," said Schilling, a longtime music industry professional who worked with the band from the late 1960s to the late '80s and is referred to as a manager in recent press accounts.
He referred a reporter to Love's website. Love did not respond to an email sent through the site.
Sievers said Wilson is on a cruise and is unavailable for comment.
Jerry Schilling has been the head of BRI for at least two years. Saying nothing is not acceptable.

The Beach Boys should be able to play any venue and event they want. Period.
And the fans of the group have the right to express any opinions about their choices as they want. Period.
There seems to be a train of thought in the US that goes like this: I should be able to do what I want to do. You should keep your mouth shut about what I do. Keep you opinions to yourself. However, I can spout my opinions freely.
That is what Mike's statement seems to say. The Beach Boys can do what they like. But we can tell them what we think of what they are doing. It (to me) would be the same if Mike and Bruce decided to do a tour performing SUMMER IN PARADISE in its entirety. You can do it. But we will stay home. That is our right. Same here. You can perform for a group of people whose self-worth is so small that they have to kill innocent creatures to try and inflate their egos. But we can tell you that killing this animals and supporting those who do so is wrong.
Period.
PS-I could give a flying f**k that the Trumps are involved. Don't really care.
BTW, this is a photo on the Safari website. Lets kill some beautiful creature and drink champagne over its dead body.
That is gross. I’m the first one to say it. But so is this. www.wideopenspaces.com/15-frightening-moose-vs-vehicle-collisions-pics/If the pretext for hunting, is thinning out the population to avoid this risk, how do we control the population? Is there birth control for animals? How to Avoid an Accident Slow down when driving at night. This will allow you more time to respond to a moose on or near the highway. Pay attention to Warning Signs; they mark High-Risk areas. These signs were placed along the roadways for you! Scan both sides of the road ahead as far as possible, especially when you are in a posted High-Risk accident zone. The best way to avoid an accident is to spot the moose well in advance. Drivers report that in most accidents they did not see the moose until immediately before impact. Moose on the right side of the vehicle are avoided more often than those on the left because drivers concentrate more on the right. Moose are unpredictable. The moose you see standing calmly at the edge of the road could bolt in front of your vehicle at the last moment. Don't let yourself be distracted. A driver who is alone and concentrating on the road is less likely to strike a moose than a driver whose attention wanders while talking to a passenger. Remember most accidents occur on clear nights and on straight road sections, maybe because drivers are more cautious on curves or in poor weather. Keep your windshield and headlights clean. Drive with your headlights on high beams unless approaching, or overtaking, other traffic. Wear your seatbelt. Seatbelts save lives.

I don't want to print them here, but go to foxnews.com and read some the remarks about Brian's stand against Mike playing this show. People are hateful. Thank you petsite for that head’s up. They are pretty awful and needless. Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh, a very controversial conservative radio host announced that he had stage 4 lung cancer and all over the web there were people cheering for this diagnosis. Sickos. Who does that? We can disagree without being disagreeable. It does not cost anything to be civil and reasonable. I’m glad Brian is on a cruise - I saw him last week and thought he was just terrific!

Wow, the justification for trophy hunting here is just unreal.
i am lifelong lover of animals, I have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years, and abhor hunting. Especially trophy hunting, which is just cruelty for the sake of cruelty. I signed the petition and posted it on my Facebook page, which, I thought was the only moral thing to do. I am glad that Brian, Al, and especially David are onboard with that sentiment. The fact that 2 of the BRI directors are taking a stand that may cut into their pocketbooks speaks volumes and I think that should be applauded.
I am not angry, but I am disappointed at Mike for doing this show. Whatever criticisms I have had of hi. in terms of the backstory, I had never doubted that he was sincere in his TM beliefs (wouldn’t hunting go against the Maharishi’s teachings?). Or his lyrics to a song like Pacific Ocean Blues. But this just throws that all away, to me. And worst of all, this harms the positive legacy (not to mention the brand name) that The Beach Boys have built.

That Jean Sievers thing is pure bull. They never liked having to go to the San Diego Zoo to do those shots. I believe Brian is an animal lover, so don't get me wrong, but please, don't use the Pet Sounds cover as proof.

We know Al hated it, but did Brian? He looked like he was doing some pretty heavy bonding in some of those outtake photos.

Let’s keep in mind Mike and The Bruce Boys are a working band and not a prestige float like Brian’s outfit. Sometimes a paid gig is a paid gig.

I never read into those things. Like I never believed those cover animals were actually their pets. It would be an awfully noisy and smelly house.

Could you imagine if all these defenseless animals could shoot back? Could you imagine how many would not be extinct?
Second Amendment: Written in 1791. The most powerful weapon that existed at the time was a musket. It had a one-round magazine capacity and could fire three effective rounds per minute (by a skilled shooter). The ammo consisted of small balls made of lead that seldom penetrated the human/animal's body. Since then, a lot of very powerful hunting rifles (both pump and bolt action) and magnum and hollow-nosed bullets have been manufactured. Hunters prefer the semi-automatic AR-15 rifle that fires several rounds in succession when the trigger is depressed. An animal doesn't stand a chance. These high-powered rifles with scopes and especially assault weapons, along with high caliber lethal bullets, didn't exist when the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution was written. If there was ever an amendment that needed to be amended, it is the 2nd Amendment.

Ban the gun type, not the right. I have read enough history to know that if you give up your rights to the government freely, you will pay dearly trying to get them back.

Hopefully someone will remind Mike of the following lyrics he penned:
We live on the edge of a body of water Warmed by the blood of the cold hearted Slaughter of otter Wonder how she feels mother seal It's no wonder the Pacific Ocean is blue The flagship of death is an old whaling trawler The people are rising over whale killing crawlers You gotta holler more Wait a minute can't you see You gotta let 'em be
Mike, you gotta holler more!

We know Al hated it, but did Brian? He looked like he was doing some pretty heavy bonding in some of those outtake photos. People sometimes say that less-is-more, and at least Mike is on record (Dan Rather interview, I think) comparing the record company’s treatment as between The BBs and The Beatles with album covers. Dennis looks like the only one - in some of the outtakes who didn’t seem bothered by it.

They took a big hit losing Nicky Wonder. I think they are all still feeling it after seeing Brian last week. Gone, with his boots on. And you are right; sometimes a paid gig is a paid gig. You gotta pay the rent. That is what annoyed me most. They don’t give a damn about the whole operation, including the lower level road crew who are union people and don’t always get a call to work. So, when you do, the bills are getting paid. I know some young guys who are in that union and their work depends on what shows are in town - some months are lean. No show - no dough.

I don't have a Facebook account, but just talked with someone who does. They've been following the news stories and just reported seeing an ad on FB for SCI, which was promptly blocked and reported as offensive. Anyone else had this happen?

Yeah, but I’d bet if “The Beach Boys” cancelled this gig on moral grounds, they wouldn’t have much trouble getting another gig and paying the troops. Where as taking any old gig and damaging the brand could reduce the pipeline.

Well, all this rather took the fun out of our forum. I guess most folks are feeling a bit 'bleh', although some posts are now trickling back in. Some bizarre distraction flares have been sent up over the past few days, when the issue is clearly (to me) the endorsement of shooting exotic and/or endangered species for self-gratification. But, all things considered, and the dice having been loaded considerably in favour of humans for centuries, I'm with the moose.

I said I would not do this, but F**K it. Here are some posts about Brian from FOXNEWS. And these are the ones they left up. Some have been taken down.
Good for Mike Love, believes in free speech and thought. You know Brian the same thing you had throughout your whole life, the ability to write your songs and make great music and make millions doing it.
Hey Brian... not everyone smoke as much dope as you... just sayin'
Half a brain left. Did it to himself. Thanks for the music. Now just go away
I didn't consider one of the Beach Boys to be a great critical thinker before he became brain damaged. Now I could care less what he thinks.
Brian is brain damaged. MYOB, Brian!!!
Another 1960's liberal in action. They are a big reason America has a liberal problem that is destroying the country. Good thing Trump and the grassroots conservatives are there to stop them.
Sometimes when one is a mere shadow of one's self, it is time to retire with dignity. Recognizing it is that time seems to be difficult. Great band with a great story. Time to fade away. In fact, past time.
liberals are all about freedom... until it goes against their opinion.
These liberals demand total obedience.
Brian needs to resume indulging in the psychdelics...
It has been brought to my attention, not something you could find out on your own? no one really cares what you think rich man. most likely PETA got him to say this.
me likes a bog fat steak with the blood running out. PeopleEatingTastyAnimals is my group.
MAGA!!!!!!! AMERICA FIRST!!!!!! TRUMP 2020!!!!!!
Vegans would rather all the native Americans died off because they had to hunt to live and people who still rely on meat like those in the wilderness of Alaska, tribes in Africa and millions of others.
Brian has been partially brain dead for about 40 years. Not hyperbole either, he checked out long ago.
Are the hunters doing anything illegal? Then shut up!
Hey Brian -- go back to bed!
Don't criticize a band and family that you deserted all those years ago because of drugs.
Well I criticize Brian Wilson for criticizing the band for playing for a group of hunters. A paying gig is a paying gig. Take THAT Brian Wilson.
Brian ..... shut up ! Ya wanta make some noise ? It's been 40 years since you had a hit, write something.
