Also, Brian's people need to get more on top of the game. His facebook page posted this yesterday: "It must be Summer because the Beach Boys are back on the Billboard Top Albums Chart." Err... actually they've been on the Top 200 album chart continuously since January 2nd this year.

In the history of the charts has there been any recording act that has spanned 59 years between its first chart album and its most recent charted album? Elvis ? [edit] Yup, thought so: his first charting album, Elvis Presley, was in spring 1956 on the Billboard Best-Selling Pop Albums charts, the forerunner of the Top 200, and his most recent was The Essential Elvis Presley, last charting on May 8th this year. A chart career of over 65 years. Yep. Forgot about him. The eternal chart machine

With a single mighty leap, back up 34 (count 'em, 34) places to #82 w/e July 17th - which is, astonishingly, the band's highest album chart placing since TWGMTR was at #78 on July 28th, 2012 !

What goes up, must come down - sometimes with a mighty thud. SOS drops 36 places this week to #118. Hm.

But as far as purchasing their music, I usually get it the second it's released.

Down to #128. Still pretty good for an album that may no longer be in print...

I was at Target tonight and there, displayed prominently, were vinyl copies of Sounds of Summer.

And it's a stunning rise of... one place, to #127. Just discovered that in the Album 200 year end charts, Endless Summer has placed as follows: 2020 - 136 2019 - 183
And TWGMTR placed at #192 in 2012.

I guess right after it's formally released they will calculate the charts for the new feel flows collection? And that's established by an amalgam of sales and online orders and streaming and downloads? So confusing now.
They should definitely follow up with a live album of the reunions concert if there is one planned. Maybe even make an album of the TV broadcast tribute concert. And maybe a new album of new music but how much can one really hope for.

In the US, the charts are a combination of physical sales and downloads/streaming. For the latter, ten digital track sales or 1,500 song streams from an album are treated as equivalent to one purchase of the album. As the big Feel Flows box has 5 CDs, I'm guessing the qualifying levels are 50 track sales or 7,500 song streams.

That's weird, because when I purchase a CD (with 10 tracks), I'm not likely to play it 150 times in my lifetime.

The Feel Flows set is at #19 this week in the UK Top 100. Certainly exceeding expectations! (For reference, the Smile boxset only hit #25 in the UK in 2011)

U.K. album chart positions in the top 11–25 positions make for interesting reading:
12 ABBA Gold Greatest Hits 13 Queen Greatest Hits 14 Fleetwood Mac Don’t Stop (greatest hits) 15 Elton John Diamonds (deep cuts & hits) 19 Beach Boys Feel Flows (you know it well) 22 Toyah Posh Pop (new album from vintage act) 23 Fleetwood Mac Rumours (which isn’t even 50 years old yet… the audacity!) 24 Oasis Time Flies 1994–2009 (others’ greatest “hits”, rewritten) 25 Bob Marley & The Wailers Legend (their own greatest hits…)
Can’t help but wonder where Pet Sounds, Sounds of Summer etc etc etc are?
