And sos returns to the top 200 lp charts. 10/24- #198 Just in time for the legacy to be destroyed yet again...and they'd have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those damn meddlin' kids.

And off again. Mike's fault, obviously. Maybe if we start a campaign of slagging and bitchin’ about Mike, and demanding that someone leaks the tracklist of SoS, it’ll get back up the charts? Imagine the traffic …

The beach boys christmas lp re-enters the top 200 chart this week at #175. Wonder if it’s been helped by what appears to be a reissue (but more like a repressing): www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08NY6J9Y1

#47 on the hot 100: Little Saint Nick On the hot 100 for the first time. Also, it solidifies the BBs legendary status, with a chart run going through 7 different decades

#47 on the hot 100: Little Saint Nick On the hot 100 for the first time. Also, it solidifies the BBs legendary status, with a chart run going through 7 different decades What’s even more shocking is that Holiday music seems to be dominating the Hot 100 in ways that it never did before. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the current number 1 hit. A song from 1993! And it is the second year in a row that that track went to number 1! www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100

The charting of "LSN" gives the band a chart history from 2/17/1962 to 1/2/2021 - or 58 years, 10 months, 17 days.

So the song makes its Hot 100 debut 57 years since its first release ... Got to be some kind of record, yes?

With the rise in streaming, The definition of what constitutes landing on the hot 100 has changed greatly. It’s a lot easier to Debut on the hot 100, if your song gets a sudden surge of streaming. This usually happens when an artist releases a new album, and their label rushes to put all of that albums songs in different, weekly curated playlists. Also, because of how streaming is calculated and converted into album sales, the more songs that are on an album, the better chance it has of getting higher first week numbers. An extremely controversial usage of this practice was made back in June 2018, when the hip-hop artist Drake released his album Scorpion, and he basically took over the entire front page of Spotify. His face was on almost every playlist, he had songs in playlists where he didn’t belong, simply because his label was doing shady practices. And it worked. All 25 tracks from that album were in the hot 100 all at one time during the week that the album released, plus he was a featured artist on two other songs on the hot 100. So basically, over 1/4th of the hot 100 was Drake songs. However, since the curated playlists change weekly, the very next week, almost all the songs collapsed out of the hot 100. That’s basically what’s happening here with Christmas songs. During Christmas week, all of the streaming services were basically taken over by playlist of holiday music. Likewise, the entire hot 100 was basically taken over by holiday music. And next week, it’ll all be gone in a flash, as all the streaming services revert to promoting regular Music, and all of the holiday playlists disappear.

Sure as hell is for The Beach Boys. Sure, but I don’t believe it’s a record in Billboard chart history in general. I could be wrong though, but I’m pretty sure that older songs from the 40s and 50s made their chart debuts in 2018 and 2019

One further factoid: the gap between "Little St. Nick" and the previous charting BB single, "Still Cruisin'", is a truly amazing 30 years, 10 months and 23 days.

58 years, 10 months and 24 days. 58 years, 11 months. Maths. Never my strong suit. That is, of course, 59 years 11 months. So, if SOS can hang into the top 200 until February 20th, the band will have a charting career of 60 years, 3 days.
