It would be interesting to see all the business memos from Capitol about that-assuming the internal memos were saved-I mean when a corporation spends money they expect a releasable product. If Brian did have the clout to block a release-I assume they billed the band for all the lost expenses -wasted tape, engineers salaries, airplane costs, etc

Wow, when you put it like that! I never really considered or even remember hearing Bruce even slightly audible in any of those recordings, and what wonderful recordings they are. I find his voice pretty hard to pull out of a mix anyway, even on a good day... His voice sticks out a little on the "guess you know I've" vocals on "Let Him Run Wild." He does one of the more middle harmonies.

Besides California Girls, Bruce has a really audible part on Girl From New York City. He sings the high wordless part in the chorus that a lot of people would probably assume to be Brian.

One time Bruce said on the BB Britain board that he thought Girl From New York City was his first vocal on a Beach Boys recording.

Is Bruce in the harmony stack of "And Your Dream Comes True" or just calling takes and making comments/suggestions from the booth as heard on "Wish That He Could Stay (Session Excerpt / Remastered 2001)" from Hawthorne, CA?

According to the Definitive Vocals Thread it's Brian, Alan, Carl and Mike. And it's only four-part harmony (at least it is to these ears). so that would make sense.

Re. And Your Dream: I’ve always wondered who’s responsible for that sour note towards the end of the song. Is it Al? Bruce? It has a sort of whiny, nasal quality but it doesn’t sound like it’s in Mike’s ordinary range.
Edit: Just gave it another listen. It’s the “dream COMES” line at 0:51-0:54 heard in the left channel in the stereo mix and most noticeable on the word “comes” where the note is a bit flat. It’s definitely not Mike. Is it Al with a cold?

Very minor question, but here goes... I was skimming through the Good Vibrations box set, and was curious if there's any info at all on the 'In My Room' demo on the fifth cd? Same for the 'Little Surfer Girl' track at the beginning of the set. (I assume the 'Bob' that Brian is talking to is Bob Norberg?) Don't really know much about these tracks, and was curious if anyone around here did.

I recently read on some youtube posters that CM played the guitar on "Well You Know I Knew". Anyone? To quote AGD's "Shows & Sessions" for 3 June '68: "session: Well You Know I Knew/Manson demos", which as I interpret it describes “WYKIK” as being distinct from the Manson demos. I could be wrong... Edit (one BB book launch later): More to the point, AGD would surely have added a footnote to that effect. And Craig S. would have said something about it somewhere.

My bad for the misleading inference: all that means is that the Bellagio Manson demos were recorded on the same day as "WYKIK". Time for a small tweak. [edit: sorted.]

The thing called 'Little Surfer Girl' on there is actually Teach Me to Surf, a song Brian wanted Bob Norberg and Vickie Kocher to sing as a duet. Both tracks were done on the makeshift recording setup in Brian and Bob's apartment.

On the version that ended up being released? That's the only version there is.

I can't tell you how many times I've wondered about that little snippet and what it was supposed to be. If I may, how did you know that?

In those 1966 photos of Brian sitting at a dinner table trying to eat a 45 and his shoe, who is the man sitting next to him in some of those photos?

Pretty sure that's cousin Steve Korthof. I was gonna say Steve Korthof, but wasn't sure. Brian's cousin (from Audree's side of the family), occassional personal assistant to Brian. Played bongos and tambourine on "Beach Boys Party", was the namesake in "Be Here In The Mornin'", co-writer's credit on "When A Man Needs A Woman", and later a co-founder of the Radiant Radish.
