I recently read on some youtube posters that CM played the guitar on "Well You Know I Knew". Anyone? Probably, yes. Thanks for the update!

The thing called 'Little Surfer Girl' on there is actually Teach Me to Surf, a song Brian wanted Bob Norberg and Vickie Kocher to sing as a duet. Both tracks were done on the makeshift recording setup in Brian and Bob's apartment. Really?? A thousand thank yous! I can't tell you how many times I've wondered about that little snippet and what it was supposed to be. If I may, how did you know that? Seconding this question! Oh, to have a longer version! One of my absolute fantasy wish list items.

That thing Dennis said about Brian being the Beach Boys and the rest of the guys were his "f***king messengers" -- when was that from?? Who was the interviewer?? Been trying to get to that source.

I THINK this counts as "minor"...
Because today is today, I'm playing Pet Sounds on the turntable, specifically my wife's 1986 budget reissue with the green Capitol label. It sounds remarkably good (although WIBN starts out really weird and plays in Duophonic while the rest of the album is real mono). But...it has the standard "Wouldn't It Be Nice."
Interesting that this pressing has the regular version, yet Made in USA from the same year and Still Cruisin' from three years later have that weird alternate version.
Common lore is that the master for WIBN was missing for a while after it had been used for the 1975 film Shampoo...but that doesn't really add up because Sunshine Dream from 1982 also uses the standard version instead of the weird alternate mix.
To add to the mystery, according to David Leaf's liner notes in the 1990 CD reissue: "ARCHIVAL NOTE: Thanks to detective work by engineer Mark Linett, the original mono mix of this track is being presented on this CD for the first time in years." Uhhmmmm..... Well, okay, I guess four years is still years plural, but...
What's the story?

Actually I like Brian's vocal take on the alternate version better. It's edgier. But Brian always went for mellowness.

(afterthought: Okay...going back to that thing about the 1990 CD having the original mono mix for the first time in years...I'm guessing the Duophonic mix used on the 1986 pressing doesn't count, and I'm now wondering if Sunshine Dream actually uses the Duophonic version as well...(yeah, I could go play it and find out for sure, but I'm not feelin' it, dawg)...which would definitely give more weight to Leaf's assertion...)

I don't know if this 'demands' an answer, but it is something that has popped into my mind. With all the talk that's given to 'Susie Cincinnati' popping up as B-side after B-side throughout the 70s, why was 'Don't Go Near the Water' chosen as the B-side to 'Come Go with Me' in 1981? Aside from the Jardine co-write, I can't really think of any other connections between the two songs.

Same reason "It's OK" was the B side to 1985's "It's Gettin' Late" (or "Passing Friend" in the UK).

West, the 1981 release of ‘Come Go With Me’ / “Don’t Go Near the Water” single was promoted as being taken from “Ten Years of Harmony” LP. Hence in this case, there was a degree of logic with that pairing.

I went down a bit of rabbit hole on youtube about conspiracy theories, and in the comments of a video about the MK Ultra project this guy left a long comment about his uncle, Allen Weisenmuller, who was (allegedly) given LSD by the government as part of the project. He talks in the comments about how his uncle hung out with Brian Wilson. Has this guy's name ever popped up anywhere? It's sounds familiar, but maybe because the last name is similar to the guy who played Tarzan way back.

Is this something sordid that I either don't know about or have forgotten, or is it a comment about the secrecy of MK Ultra?

So...I've been watching The Beach Boys: An American Band since probably about 1994-ish...seen it dozens of times.
Now...we get to the "it was the last fourth of July concert with the original Beach Boys" scene. So what happens? We see Brian finish singing "It's Just a Matter of Time," and he introduces Dennis, who comes down and can barely talk, and very quietly sings "You Are So Beautiful." Now...here's the set list from that show, courtesy of Eric Aniversario's web site that's been up for just about as long: members.tripod.com/~fun_fun_fun/7-4-83.html
Can't help but notice that those two songs are missing from the list. If it's true they did not do those songs at that show...then where did those performances come from that were dropped in??
EDIT: Clicking around more on Eric's site shows that those songs were from the August 3, 1983 show at the Pacific Ampitheatre in Costa Mesa.

Dennis' last ever Beach Boys gig was the day before, at the same venue - despite what has been written in the past, photos show he played for most, if not all, of that show. He also showed up the following night, but reportedly caused such disruption that he was banned from playing with the band again until he cleaned up his act. The Costa Mesa show was, as far as is known, the last show with all six.

I was there for one of those shows, Dennis was also there. So was Les Chan, who I believe got Dennis' autogragh (but he's not around anymore to tell about it). I remember wearing my dark blue Beach Boys hat on my head because it was a hot day in Napa.

I was at the Costa Mesa show in 1983, and I still remember how exciting it was at the time seeing Brian with the band, especially when he came out at the beginning of the encore and sang “It’s Just a Matter of Time” solo at the piano. Of course, seeing Carl there (after he left in 1981) was icing on the cake. Who would have thought at the time that Carl and Dennis would both die, Alan would no longer tour in The Beach Boys, but that Brian would tour as a solo act for decades to come!

Do you remember much about Dennis from the show? No. I think Les talked to him and maybe had his picture taken with him, but I wasn't with Les. I remember more about the Candlestick Park gig the month before after a Giants game and Dennis was there. I saw Carl during his solo tour the month before that in S.F. You take it for granted that all of the core members will play a long time together and don't think about or anticipate any of them dying an early death. We already knew Dennis was hitting the sauce and dipping into the condimnents pretty good during the early 80's. Carl would be around another 10 years before checking out. Both shockers.

I've lifted this subject from another thread, as it's a little puzzling. There are no drums credited on "From There To Back Again", not in the song's wiki, not in the album's wiki and not in the liner notes. Yet there are clearly drums to be heard, as pointed out by some good people around here who obviously know the song better than I do. I can only assume no one knows who's playing drums on this track. Or am I missing something somewhere?

Have you ever noticed that Dennis, in the summer of 83, looked a lot like John Lennon? At least to me... If you're interested in images of DW -- I've always found this time-projection image fascinating:
If Dennis were alive today perhaps, he might look something like . . .
