Second chord to Drive-In. Major or minor? Sounds very dissonant, almost as if there were two 3rds. Perhaps the big open-fifths in the guitar create a major 3rd harmonic and it clashes with the minot 3rd apparently being sung in the backing vocals. Does anyone else hear this?

I was reminded of what Andy Paley said about the progression going from F to D7 rather than the typical F to D minor in the two-fer liner notes.

I tried to transcript the text of "The Gong". As I'm not english/american, I surely may have done some mistakes. I put in [?] words I didn't understand. Feel free to correct and update. Here it is (it took me some time, I hope you appreciate)
The Gong
I'm broken hearted I can't believe My life is ending Cut my hair off, oh I walk in the street I don't feel the same I'm gettin' mad, real mad I gotta cut my hair off I'm real blue
Just fall down my house I asked to myself, man? How... how can that happen to you? I said I don't know. I really don't know, I... I get up in the morning and... [Sharks?]... I don't know!? I just, well, [not happy?] When I'm blowing my cool I do sound like a heck Maybe that's my problem, self distruction Just [?] myself [upon?] I can't live it anymore Now wait a minute With every new day there is a new dawn And with every new dawn there is a new day And with every new day, we have another new day So... you know what that means? Yes! It means we have a lot of days A lot of days and we can get ignore ourselves As a matter of fact it's all we'll ever get to know Is just ourselves? Mmh!? I read a book I can read, my God! What is God? What is... what is read? Read? What was that saying? That's right Ladies and gentleman I forgot what the hell I came here to talk about Well, I'm ready to do it I'm ready to tell everyone everywhere what's happenin' but actually i think i'm cluttering up someone echo chamber in this moment Here in the Capitol Studios in Hollywood California I'm, I'm quite famous you know
But, if all of you out there Would just for one minute get close Get close to yourself, ask to yourself: When is the last time you ever talked to yourself? And [really says?]: hey man, what's happenin'? D'you having a good time? [Would?] if you have a good time. It's a trip, he says: hey man [party?] having a good time? but you know what? I don't know what

I've only ever heard the one version. Sorry, let me clarify...which vocal take? There is the one on Get the Boot and I’ve heard that a a few select people have heard a different more polished vocal take.

The chord progression would be: I VI I V //// //// //// //// //// //// //// ////
Some might use VI7 and V7, but you get the idea.
All major chords.

There is the one on Get the Boot and I’ve heard that a a few select people have heard a different more polished vocal take. I have two versions of the song - a three minute take with the drum stick count-off and the extended guitar outro, and a shorter 1:50 version with a different vocal pass (featuring a distinct laugh/grunt at 1:20) and a seemingly slightly slower arrangement (although that may be my hearing playing tricks, such is the clearer mix)

Still want to know who the person was who drew the H&V cartoon sleeve. Where are the Capitol internal memos on this?

Still want to know who the person was who drew the H&V cartoon sleeve. Where are the Capitol internal memos on this? There absolutely has to be some kind of archival material on this. It shouldn't be that tough of a question to answer. At the very least it should be known if it was an internal member of staff who did it (I assume they had a small army of designers), or there'd be an invoice somewhere if it was an external commission.

Bottom right is a sig that looks to be "Green". I doubt there'd be any documentation at Capitol as this was a Brother release.

Have you ever noticed that Dennis, in the summer of 83, looked a lot like John Lennon? At least to me...

A more generic query: when did the custom of using an online alias start and, to me more importantly, why ? Speaking entirely personally, I've got something to say, I want folk to know who's saying it. But maybe that's just me...

Speaking entirely personally, I've got something to say, I want folk to know who's saying it. But maybe that's just me... I think it's a combination of a desire for privacy online and perhaps creating a persona; a "perfect" you. My alias represents my 2 loves: music & Doctor Who, so it perhaps sums me up better than my own name would. However, I do prefer using my real name in cases where I'm working on a research project online because it adds a bit of professionalism and legitimacy in a way that my alias would not. In the end though it's all a false sense of security, because let's be honest. If someone was hell bent with determination on causing you harm (such as doxxing) they will find a way no matter how careful you are with your online identity.

Interesting. Again, speaking personally, I'm perfectly happy with my own, real-life persona. I know there are those who, shall we say, aren't. Such is life.

Speaking entirely personally, I've got something to say, I want folk to know who's saying it. But maybe that's just me... I used to use an alias. I switched to my real name a long while back because I realised I didn’t want to say anything I wouldn’t put my real name to. There have been times when some of our conversations, on various boards, have degenerated into insults, name-calling, hypocrisy and worse. Hiding behind aliases, in my opinion, makes that more likely, while using real identities at least limits the risk of any conflict to a level you might encounter at work or down the pub. Someone on another board recently described a fellow poster as “someone who doesn't have the guts to defend themselves using their real name or speaking as themselves”, completely missing the irony of the fact that they themselves use an online alias. Someone uses an alias, or wears a mask, or adopts a disguise seems to me to be a possibility of trouble further down the road.

Sorry to go off-topic, but I think it's worth noting that, in general, whether one uses real name online has actually nothing to do with whether they will wind up resorting to insult or name-calling.
Sure, using real name can be a deterrer for many people, but there are millions of cases where users with real name, with their occupations, head shots etc. disclosed, posted extremely offensive, racist, or simply idiotic contents on the Internet. I don't concur that using real name limits the risk of getting involved in troubles than using alias, as I believe there are a number of people who dare to be offensive/careless against others even under their real name.
Plus, when you're online with your real name, it can be a real easy task for someone who wants to attack you to seek for your personal information and "doxx" you online, compared to when you're anonymous. When what you said or done either online or offline gets on the nerves of somebody aggressive, or who finds fun in cyberbullying others, they will track your comments and photos to identify your home address and harass/threaten you in your real life. This may sound a tad too hyperbolic, but it actually happened, countless times on the Internet.
I don't mean it's wrong to use your real name online; I believe it will work out well under proper deliberation. But this is why I keep refraining from putting anything that can be associated with my personal information in public on the Internet.
[Edit] That said...I don't see these happening around these parts of the Internet, considering how civil the things, with a few exceptions, have been (as far as I have seen). I'm saying it as a case of the Internet in general.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Classic case of "do as I say, not as I do".
