Perhaps deserving of its own thread (or perhaps not...) I am curious about Stephen Kalinich’s album A World Of Peace Must Come. I tried listening to it and it was fairly excruciating. Yet I’m curious about Brian’s involvement. I heard at least one track (America, I Know You) that had some interesting instrumentation. And I heard sitar I believe on another track, though I may be wrong. Anyone have more info about what these sessions were like and if anyone else was involved? I think Kalinich as a topic is worth a thread or two. Beloved by the BBs and associates, doesn’t seem to get much respect from us fans. Perhaps there is something to him that we fail to see?

Stevie is lovely guy, with a wicked sense of humour.
The vast majority of his poetry album was recorded in the makeshift home studio.

Another minor question in the spirit of this thread:
Has anyone figured out the actual source for the oft-booted version of "Good Timin'" with Dennis taking the lead? It's commonly referred to as being from the Midnight Special, but I'm certain they didn't play it on their April 27 appearance. (I see the group made a return appearance on November 26,1979, but I've never been able to track down what songs they played that night.)
I imagine Mr. Stebbins' book might hold the answer, but my books are in storage right now. Any help appreciated!

Unless my mind is playing tricks on me, I watched the show and remember Dennis performing the lead. They did not play "Good Timin'" on the Midnight Special. They did rehearse it for possible performance on the show, and that's where one of the sources for the audio recording of Dennis singing it comes from (the other is from audience recordings of two of their appearances at Radio City Music Hall the previous month). But they did not play it on the Midnight Special - I watched the original broadcast and taped it to VCR, and probably watched it again a couple of dozen times over the next year or two. Now, there was another television performance of the band playing "Good Timin'" with someone other than Carl singing the lead, and that was on the Easter Seals Telethon, where Mike sang the lead (likely because Dennis was a no-show). Video of that performance is also in circulation.

The return appearance on Midnight Special in late 1979 was a repeat of the April appearance. They only were on the show once/though individual members taped interviews for the show on other occasions

Is it still true to say Bruce Johnston is not documented or detected at any of the April "Vegetables" sessions?

Figured this did not deserve its own thread:
Van Dyke Parks' Song Cycle was released not long after the collapse of Smile and mirrored some, definitely not all, of the elements of the project. Has Brian ever commented on/shared his thoughts about Song Cycle?

Just noticed that Al’s Postcard From California is no longer on Spotify. I’m fairly new to streaming, so is an album dropping off a common occurrence? Just curious. I kinda got spoiled having it so easily available.

Damn it! No. No, I was thinking of another David. (mimes he just remembered a previous engagement and scurries off)

Just got the re-issue of Jan & Dean's Silver Summer called Surf's Up. At Bellagio it says that Mike is on "Sidewalk Surfin'", "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" & "The New Girl In School." I can hear him clearly on all 3 songs, but I think I also hear him on Drag City. Does anyone else hear him on Drag City as well?

Is it true that throughout the summer of 1969, the Boys were looking for someone to replace Bruce? And if so, why?

Billy Hinsche, then Carl's brother in law, says he was approached to replace Bruce but declined to finish college. I think Billy Cowsill was also approached. As to why... not a clue.

One more question, I’ve never really gotten deep into Dennis 1977-79 boots, so does “Are You Real” actually just cut off? No ending, just a clean cut? Or is that just a decision that was made when compiling the 2008 CD?

And I’ve got to say I love the way it cuts off – that superb driving jive that just vanished and leaves you hanging… very dramatic.

But yes, it absolutely fits the dark and foreboding nature of the track. 3 minutes and 38 seconds of building hope, fear, sadness, anger, enlightenment, confusion, and destruction all builds and builds until... Nothing. I kind of wish the compilers would have ended the second disc with that track, it really would’ve left an impression

Just found an old mp3 called "059_The Beach Boys - 1985 Medley", it has parts of Getcha Back, Passing Friend, Crack At Your Love, I'm So Lonely, and Maybe I Don't Know strung together. Does anyone know if this was actually released, or is it just something a fan may have made? It is 5:44 long, it may have been from something called Beach Boys Goodies.

Man, "Beach Boys Goodies" (1 & 2, 61 tracks) was available for download way back in 2007! Gotta be a fan-made bootleg all the way. Sounds like some "Oopsing" (out of phase) going on, resulting in a large collection of 'alternate' mixes of songs. This was of course before clean extraction technology was invented, but there's interesting stuff on this Mp3 collection anyway. Some rarities and unreleased stuff too. So yeah, #059 is '1985 Medley' and it was never formally released to the best of my knowledge.

Seem to recall it had an official label, but damned if I can recall anything else... or what happened to it !
