Pretty sure “10,000 Years” and “10,000 Years Ago” were considered two different things. “10,000 Years Ago” is the instrumental track that’s been bootlegged, and was recorded during the 15 Big Ones sessions. Of course, this track was later re-recorded by Mike and released on Unleash the Love. Yes, but Al Jardine had said that Mike started the song, then Dennis did his own re-interpretation, with new musical and lyrical contributions. Dennis cut a track, Mike didn't like it, and that was that.

Was looking through the surfermoon site, and I happened to come across a VERY old thread from the other board (circa 2002) regarding the chronology of Al's initial departure with the Beach Boys, and the revelation that he didn't actually go to dental school during that gap of time after all. As it was a very, very long thread, I wasn't able to make it through the entire thing (some very interesting anecdotes at the start of the thread though!). Additionally, given that there has since been an additional 18 years for new information to come up, has a definitive chronology ever been established for this series of events? Just what the hell was Al up to between March 1962 and early 1963?

I’d have to re-read a lot of Murphy’s book Jiggy but I did scan through it and Al was continuing college courses (not dentistry) and playing in other folk trio type of bands. He was never really totally disconnected from his friendship with the Wilson’s. He just didn’t think the boys were going beyond a one hit wonder and thought college mattered more. If you don’t have the Murphy book you need to find it.

Was the Humble Harv Heroes and Villains performance ever actually broadcast on KHJ? I think Humble Harv might have been 9 to Midnight at KBLA 1500 AM at the time, was on October 28, 1966 anyway. Good Vibrations went to #1 on their November 7 survey.

I'm guessing. Were it for broadcast it'd be more structured, more professional.

Never intended for broadcast. So what was Harv doing there and why was the tape rolling? Just visiting? If it is on BBs' tape I'm guessing it is just another of Brian's studio witness tapes of a conversation.

I'm guessing that first Humble Harv aircheck is probably from Saturday, November 12, the first night of the Sunset Strip riots curfew, just over a week after the studio visit.

The car VDP bought with his SMiLE advance has been described as a "Volvo", a gray four door, which I think means a Volvo 144.
In late 1967, Tom Nolan and VDP describe it as a "Rover TC-2000".
Maybe the Rover was paid for by Brian with royalties but the Volvo with the advance?

The Volvo was a 123 (better known in at least its home country of Sweden as the Volvo Amazon), not the then-brand new 144. I asked Van Dyke over e-mail about ten years ago.

I recall reading (where ? No idea. When ? Ditto) that Brian was aghast to discover that Van Dyke didn't have a car. He asked VDP what was the safest car on the road and upon being told it was a Volvo, told someone (Anderle ?) to go buy one for him. The interviewer asked Van Dyke what that meant to him and the response was along the lines of "my undying loyalty to Brian Wilson".

Andrew, what is "feathery" vocal quality? You use the term in your Beach Boys notes.

I guess I mean lightly insubstantial. Example: most of the vocals on the 1985 album.

AGD line to Bruce request if possible: Was he there for the famous Paul McCartney Vegetables visit in April '67? And/or does he remember recording with the group at all at Armin Steiner's studio on Vegetables, Child or Wonderful etc.? (He appears to only show up vocally on one thing from those sessions - the new Child is Father of the Man fragment - which isn't dated any more specifically than the month. Trying to wrap my head around that one outlier from the March-September Bruce studio abstinence.) Someone once asked Bruce about McCartney's involvement in the "Vegetables" session - I think it was Brad Elliott when he interviewed him for Goldmine in '81. Bruce replied that Paul was "Hanging out" with them (meaning, he didn't contribute musically, but was there). This would imply a presence by Bruce at that question, unless Bruce's knowledge was second-hand.

Does anyone know who arranged the background vocals on Its A Beautiful Day? It’s a nice blend, and the 10 seconds where Carl sings the chorus is on par with some of their better work.

Okay, so this isn't really a question, but this seemed like the best place to post this. Here's a funny story out of the pages of Tiger Beat (Jan. 1967).

Perhaps deserving of its own thread (or perhaps not...)
I am curious about Stephen Kalinich’s album A World Of Peace Must Come. I tried listening to it and it was fairly excruciating. Yet I’m curious about Brian’s involvement. I heard at least one track (America, I Know You) that had some interesting instrumentation. And I heard sitar I believe on another track, though I may be wrong. Anyone have more info about what these sessions were like and if anyone else was involved?
