jk I didn't realize what Der Kommissar was until I listened to it - I love that song! It's the best one on todays list. There was an English language version of that in 1982 by After the Fire. Falco's was better, tho. He helped write it. Both were big at the MTV nation.
I can't even find six worth voting for. There's much better songs from 1981 than what I'm seeing here.
Such as? If you list a few and I don’t already have them coming up, I’ll try to squeeze them in.

jk I didn't realize what Der Kommissar was until I listened to it - I love that song! Glad you like it, sf. Falco made some interesting singles. I bought a comp of his stuff when we were in Vienna a few years back. Oh, and I voted for two again: "Der Kommissar" and "Who Can It Be Now?"

My favorite Falco track was "Rock Me Amadeus" - went to #1 on the Billboard Charts in 1986. Yes indeed, Will, great track. I voted for The Human League only. I know two of the others but that's no criterion in itself to vote for them.

To the lovely people who participate in this game, I'm not the sort who likes to tell people what to do, and I really don't want to tell people how to use their votes. But it really does make for a better outcome if you use all your votes or at least as many as you can muster. We all come from different backgrounds and may not always be familiar with every song, but personally I think it's a great opportunity to discover new music. I've found more than a few new favourites over the past few months. I can't make you do anything you don't want to, but I just wanted to gently nudge voters to take advantage of their full voting potential

I think the outcome will be representative of the tastes and musical knowledge of the posters who vote. In my book, that's about the best outcome you can ever want. Of course, this is just one person's opinion.

It seems to be more of a trend rather than the exception.

Here are the results of heat 5: 1. Don't You Want Me - Human League (5 votes) 2. Centerfold - J. Geils Band (5 votes) 3. The Waiting - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (5 votes) 4. Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks (3 votes) 5. I Can't Stand It - Eric Clapton (3 votes) 6. This is Radio Clash - The Clash (3 votes)7. Treat Me Right - Pat Benatar (3 votes) 8. Diary of a Madman - Ozzy Osbourne (3 votes) 9. Get Down On It - Kool and the Gang (2 votes) 10. I Believe In You - Y & T (2 votes) The top 6 songs are moving on to round 2. Unfortunately, because so many songs were tied, I had to put them in order based on their arbitrary ranking on whatever chart they were sourced from. Let's continue round 1 with heat 6. 1981: Round 1 Heat 6

Unfortunately, because so many songs were tied, I had to put them in order based on their arbitrary ranking on whatever chart they were sourced from. I see your problem. I nailed five songs today so that's an improvement.

I found the time to listen to the full playlist this morning and I'm happy to vote for 5 of them. The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up Def Leppard - Bringin' On The Heartbreak Foreigner - Urgent Roxy Music - Jealous Guy Stray Cats - Rock This Town I hadn't heard that version of "Jealous Guy" before. It went #1 in the UK. I also listened to the live version from '82 that they released on their EP The High Road (which also included a cover of Neil Young's "Like A Hurricane").

I'm sticking to my guns, @surflower, and voted for the only two I know, "Bette Davis Eyes" (okay-ish) and "Down Under" (great!). It's just the way I'm made.

I voted for four this time round! In one case I knew the song but not the version, two more I've actually heard but don't really warm to and a fourth I like a lot:
