Also, worth pointing out (as I've done a few times on here recently) that it isn't only 'geeks and trainspotters' who think the audio and mixes on Sounds of Summer are atrocious. There are people all over the YouTube comments sections and elsewhere saying 'what the hell is this?' It is convenient for Howie to pretend they're all hardcore obsessives, but I think it's likely many of them are just casual fans or regular listeners.

Also known as bitter clingers...😂 Among other pejoratives. This is the kind of stuff I want released. Un-Atmos-ized.

I mean he said the box set would be at the end of the year… Al said “November” at one of his shows a couple months ago… the Press release said “this fall”… So I’ve always assumed around Black Friday, late fall. I was referencing the “early next year” part of the sentence. ah, I believe he said that in reference to other projects. My guess is the documentary

I think he gets it at this point. He was here, he saw, he’s not stupid. he obviously can’t come out and say “sorry guys, we hear you, we’ll try to do better next time.” The fact that he is acknowledging *anything* to me is a good sign. I like the ideas behind the remixes, it’s simply the execution that I (and I think most here) have issue with, and I hope that’s what’s understood

Maybe people have gone over-his-head - the sphere is long and large, with many uncompromisingly faithful fans, during the lean years, who only want the absolute very best for the band? Or, some social outspoken media groups have made their point, fora certainly larger than this group. And, they are re-thinking and re-tooling the strategy. It is like seeing a 3-D movie without 3-D glasses to decode or align the visuals in front of the viewer. That is what Atmos is to me at this point. I don’t have the 3-D glasses, so it is an abstraction for the most part for me. What I do know, now, is that it is both a technological production process and a tangible physical (speaker) set-up to process it, like the 3-D glasses. And that insiders in the industry are still fighting over its use and how to make it user-friendly. It (Atmos) is not user-friendly at this point. And The Beach Boys are only user-friendly. The music is for everyone, starting out on a transistor AM radio, not just the elites who can run out and buy themselves an Atmos home theater.

This exactly. I'm sick of hearing 'well, maybe it'll sound less crap with Atmos'. If Sounds of Summer sounds rubbish when played on a standard CD player through regular everyday speakers then that is a problem with the CD itself, not with the CD player.

I was in my local HMV today. No copies of Sounds of Summer. I was thinking, as I already have the 3 CD set, I might 'impulse' buy the vinyl!
What's the point in physical releases if physical stores are not stocking it. HMV now stocks more sweets and soft drinks than Beach Boys!
They had a couple of greatest hits (2001 and 2012) on CD and 2 vinyl copies of Pet Sounds (50th Anniversary mono and stereo)!
It doesn't seem the new Azoff deal is having an impact. They should have had giant displays, posters etc, with loads of CDs and Vinyl boxes etc. Maybe even give away free potato chips with each purchase! 😂

Have you tried listening to the Atmos mix on Focal Utopia by Tournaire headphones? It will only sound good on them. And you must listen on a full moon’s night. Naked. In the desert. On a huge dose of peyote.

— Howie didn’t like the drums in the original mix of ’Marcella’. — Howie don’t hear the missing ”s” in the new Good Vibrations mix. — ”Don’t be a trainspotter, you know. Stop being a geek!" is this man a literal doofus

Thank God for whoever is leaking high-quality rarities all over the internet, that's all I can say. I dread to think what Howie doesn't like about Carry Me Home or the ways in which he thinks it could be improved. Well, we have a clean version of it now so, hey, feel free to smother it in treble or compression or echo or whatever else you think will make it appeal to the youth of today, Howie.

My summation of Sounds of Summer is .. some poor decisions made on a few songs .. 95% of the Stereo mix when played through a Stereo system sounds just fine. On an 80 track set, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Here's hoping the powers that be can do better on the next set and hit that magic 100%. I definitely will not stop buying future BB releases because of a few 'could have been better's.

How are many of you going about playing the music in this format? I've got Apple's most recent iPod Touch as well as a Samsung Galaxy 8 smartphone however I don't believe either device is compatible. On my home entertainment system I believe I can play Atmos mixes if they're on a Blu-ray disc such as the Beatles new album remixes that have been coming out.

Noticed Pink Floyd contracted Analogue Productions to do a SACD of the new Animals remix.
Would be cool if that relationship hadn’t had its bridge burnt so we could get more AP-mastered Beach Boys sets.

They’re still making and manufacturing the old releases but they sure haven’t done any new ones since the whole Surf’s Up “is it Quad or” thing. Which sucks because they only did a handful of their albums. Unless I’m wrong and there’s deeper connection I’m missing in case my bad.

I see the other board is in diametric opposition to the SOS opinions expressed here. Howie the hero vs Howie the villain. Unfortunate . . . .

I’d love to hear Friends mastered by Kevin. Got almost all of the LPs but somehow I can’t pull the trigger on Party! to complete the set…
