Yes, on an official tracklist they actually did call it Mt Vernon Farewell. Yes, it appears to actually be an official BriMel product. Yes, if it is already September 17 in your time zone you can listen to God Only Knows, the first single, on streaming services. Yes, Brian‘s official Twitter and website are hyping it like it’s an actual new solo album. No, The piano playing doesn’t sound like Brian in the slightest

Oh boy… thanks for posting this.
The blurb, found at "https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9251963--at-my-piano"
Genius, icon, trailblazer – he revolutionised music as head of the Beach Boys. Now, legend Brian Wilson retraces his steps and reimagines the most iconic songs from his back catalogue into their purest form, him alone at the piano. Featuring God Only Knows, Wouldn’t it Be Nice, California Girls, Good Vibrations and many more on solo piano.
“We had an upright piano in our living room and from the time I was 12 years old I played it each and every day. I never had a lesson, I was completely self-taught. I can’t express how much the piano has played such an important part in my life. It has bought me comfort, joy and security. It has fuelled my creativity as well as my competitive nature. I play it when I’m happy or feeling sad. I love playing for people and I love playing alone when no one is listening. Honestly, the piano and the music I create on it has probably saved my life.” (Brian Wilson)

Yeh? I guess? At least after hearing GOK, I can tell you that it does not sound like Brian‘s piano playing at all. Chords on left and melody on right, something that Brian rarely, rarely did. Sounds extremely by the numbers, overly rehearsed piano playing, if you would’ve told me this was any random session musician I would’ve believed you. In fact, when I first discovered it, I just assumed it was some sort of tie in to a Brian Wilson piano book, and the man himself had absolutely nothing to do with it. So yeah, seems in a similar vein to the Royal Philharmonic album from a couple years ago, cool I guess, but why? Was there a demand for this?

Hey Rainboweyes, who's "Bryan"? Is this thread about a Brian Wilson solo album? And did you by chance know that the first letters in titles are capital letters?

Cool. Now let me help you with the title capitalization. Some of you guys are being lazy by not hitting the upper case keys on your phones/laptops/iPads. It ain't that hard.

Fans have been asking for a Brian-alone-at-the-piano release for decades now. So here it is.
(Of course the GOK snippet sounds unusual for his style, since it’s a piano solo rendition and not an accompaniment to his singing.)
I say the idea is interesting, at least. And, after JT’s second coming in the mid 2010s, it could also be refreshing.

Is it fair to write it off as a genuine Brian Wilson piano performance based on 6 seconds ? (or are people hearing a different snippet). Correct that we probably haven't heard him do chords left hand / melody right hand. But that might be more due to the fact that it had never been called for in the past. If you're gonna play rather than sing the lead melody, it would be rather weird not to play it in the way that is featured in the clip. And is it a stretch to say that there is certain plodding characteristic contained within that six seconds?

Again, if you have a VPN or you live in a time zone where it’s already Friday you can hear the full track already on streaming services, not just six seconds

Personally, I love the idea, but I would want him singing as well as playing. I really like listening to the Love You and Adult/Child demos.

Missing from the list is Brian's version of "Rhapsody In Blue" which I understand he plays very well on the piano.

Brian the Piano player? It sounds nothing like his usual 'bang bang' style, if it's him playing.... It does seem kind of rough here and there, so very possible. I really don't know what to think... He's overdubbing the melody over the chord progression. If it's Brian, he is demonstrating a whole other side of his playing. Crazy!

I have heard several requests for a Brian with a piano album, but nothing like this. More like Brian just pounding out some songs, new, old, covers, originals, with just him and a piano, love you demo style. No autotune, no production tricks, no professional band accompaniment. Something like the prince piano and a microphone compilation that was put out a couple years ago

Does he sing on the album or is it strictly instrumental...?

Does he sing on the album or is it strictly instrumental...? 'GOK' is strictly instrumental. The album is also titled 'solo piano' which tends to mean instrumental only.
