Does he sing on the album or is it strictly instrumental...? 'GOK' is strictly instrumental. The album is also titled 'solo piano' which tends to mean instrumental only.
I figured as much. The fact that whether he's actually playing the piano or not is in question makes me wonder what the point of this release is anyway. 🤷♂️

I will only be interested if it contains vocals in the end.

There is a precedent to this: This isn’t love, his contribution to a piano-solo album by various artists. He overdubbed two pianos for that, and the style of that song was distinct in that seems to be a harmonized piano tune, unlike his usual chugging manner of accompanying a vocal melody.

Fans have been asking for a Brian-alone-at-the-piano release for decades now. So here it is. (Of course the GOK snippet sounds unusual for his style, since it’s a piano solo rendition and not an accompaniment to his singing.) I say the idea is interesting, at least. And, after JT’s second coming in the mid 2010s, it could also be refreshing. If I may, what fans have been asking for Brian alone at his piano? I have never seen it. “Just Brian and a piano, no autotune, no BS”, etc. Been reading that for years; that and a request for Rick Rubin to produce him.

Rubin's MO is to not record someone he's producing until he feels they've written enough quality material for an album. He told Neil Diamond to go away for something like a year and write. Tell BW that, at the end of 12 months you'd get a three minute variation on "Shortenin' Bread".

Hmmmmm.
I’m pretty old, but I’m not old enough, or cultured enough, to get too excited about this.

Cool. Now let me help you with the title capitalization. Some of you guys are being lazy by not hitting the upper case keys on your phones/laptops/iPads. It ain't that hard. Considering the user in question is blind, this comes across a bit churlish...

Yes, and I love that piece! I'm also one of those (many) fans who have voiced interest in a Brian-and-his-piano album. While I had hoped Brian would sing, too, the more I think about this release, the more interested I am. Who's to say they didn't consider and/or attempt vocal accompaniment at one stage but ultimately decided this approach was best? If Brian's performing, I'm interested.

Please check your e-mail/PM, g00dvibrations. It has everything to do with it when speech to text programs don't automatically capitalize everything, and going back to manually capitalize is much harder when one is visually impaired. No one is obligated to correct anything, especially when it's worded like that. Kindness is free

Pretty sure “just Brian and a piano” comments were always referring to Brian writing/singing/producing and singing again instead of others carrying the weight….. not actually just Brian and a piano.

But who do you lodge a complaint with when moderators post shit like this? Hey Rainboweyes, who's "Bryan"? Is this thread about a Brian Wilson solo album?

If this is instrumental, I have no interest in it whatsoever. I think it would have been interesting to hear Brian sing alone at a piano.
Who is this for?

Actually, I am tired of the rehashing. It goes on in films, TV and music. Doesn’t anyone have an original thought anymore?

Hi there! Brand new forum member here, my favorite album is PET SOUNDS (not to start off my first post here with a nag, but just a little helpful tip from someone who knows "A Thing Or Two (BMI-2:40)" - the mods should really consider implementing the Cooper Black font. "God Only Knows (BMI-2:46)" how you all go about referencing the historic album in conversation here when the closest font you have is Georgia).
I, for one, am quite excited about this new release! I can just imagine Bri sitting down at his piano, tickling the ivories with such poignant, lonely renditions of those classics he wrote all those years ago... what more does a fan of The Beach Boys need? However, I'm a little more than appalled at the title of the ninth track (NOTE: for all those who have not bothered to put the track list to memory yet, it is "Sketches Of Smile"). Smile... really? Did their shift button break mid-sentence? It should, of course, be titled "Sketches of SMiLE". Brian would never stand for such a trivial mistake. I expect that the miscreant will be fired once the big man in the sandbox hears about it. Such a lack of professionalism these days! Figures...
I also find the omission of WILD HONEY material to be a tad disappointing - I imagine "Let The Wind Blow (BMI-2:18)" would be quite lovely. "This Whole World (Brian Wilson) 1:55" from SUNFLOWER also seems like a no-brainer, what with the release of "FEEL FLOWS" THE SUNFLOWER & SURF'S UP SESSIONS 1969-1971 (Deluxe), "FEEL FLOWS" THE SUNFLOWER & SURF'S UP SESSIONS 1969-1971 (Super Deluxe), "FEEL FLOWS" THE SUNFLOWER & SURF'S UP SESSIONS 1969-1971 (Double LP), and "FEEL FLOWS" THE SUNFLOWER & SURF'S UP SESSIONS 1969-1971 (Quadruple LP).
Anyways, those are just some minor critiques - I will still be very happy to listen to Brian Wilson At My Piano when it arrives (I will, of course, be waiting to listen to the LP on my MAG-LEV - you cannot even begin to appreciate music any other way).
"Love & Mercy (Brian Wilson / Eugene E. Landy) 2:52", dogchow

Welcome, dogchow! (Don't be surprised if a mod asks you to introduce yourself. We like to get to know people here.)
I dig where you're at, but in defense of those who decided not to use it, Cooper Black is so obvious and overdone, really.
And I'm gonna say it: the list of *songs* overall makes me think "ho-hum," but after listening to that six-second snatchet, I'm...really looking forward to this thing.

Let’s all be a little more positive! It’s 2021, and Brian is still releasing music. It may not be what we all want, but hey, it’s something new, in a different form to listen to. Let’s appreciate it for what it is.

In the sample, I'm hearing left hand bass and right hand chords. Then a melody overdubbed on top. Not a solo piano. I can't prove it, but I think that's what I'm hearing. I think after 60 years, Brian's entitled to release piano instrumental versions of his hits, or anything else he wants to. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I think it's nice to hear the bare bones chords and melodies for the songs that Brian wrote - which far surpass most contemporary 60s-70s rock-and-roll or singer-songwriter type songs in their sophistication, use of extended chords, and melody notes that float over the chords in unexpected ways.

Hey, that's really good, nice arrangement and room tone. The full song is up on Tidal, here's a screen shot of the "credits", for the benefit of the doubters (of course, please share if you're a doubter with something genuine up your sleeves).
