Let’s all be a little more positive! It’s 2021, and Brian is still releasing music. It may not be what we all want, but hey, it’s something new, in a different form to listen to. Let’s appreciate it for what it is. WORD!!!

God Only Knows just goes on and on and Fades out like the record which is better than a artificial ending they sometimes used to put on when they did it in concert with Brian's band. This is definitely good relaxing background music or fun driving around LA music or good meditation music and certainly Brian should be practicing up for the big TV show and the reunions Show when he plays on stage with the boys, or so hope the professor.

Someone close to the project today assured me that it is indeed 100% Brian's piano playing, albeit filtered through some technology that might have somewhat reduced the "Brian-ness" of the keyboard attack (I have yet to hear it so I can't comment).

If 'GOK' is anything to go by, how'd they get Brian so 'relaxed' on a piano? He is normally 'wham' and 'bam' and uses it more as a tool to explain, than actually 'sit and play'. Unlike others, I'm very curious to hear the rest of the album and where his piano chops are these days. I hope they don't remove too many of Brian's great piano 'isms' that make him unique to his sound.
I'll certainly pick up the vinyl, just for the cover alone.

Interesting too, it claims it's to be released on the 'Decca' label....

I'm beginning to wonder if "Mt Vernon Farewell" really is a typo.

Am calmly looking forward to this.
The GOK track we’ve heard could have been played on an upright in a church hall, it has that echoey quality to it.
Glad the Smile featurette features Heroes, as I’ve liked it when he’s knocked that one out at the piano in various documentaries and interview clips.
Surf’s Up twice? Be interesting to compare those to the 66/67 solo versions and see how his playing has changed.
Agree with Andrew that Mt Vernon Farewell just might not be a typo … if it is, then it seems to be consistent across the inter web, which would be unfortunate. New music, perhaps? Wouldn’t that be nice.
The cynic in me (the optimistic cynic) wonders if this might be a swift cash grab before the soundtrack to I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times is released, as that would doubtless overshadow anything put out subsequently, for a few weeks at least.
Happy to be taken advantage of in that way, if that’s the case!

Listened to GOK. Nice enough, although in the easy-listening category. Nothing revelatory, no bold reimagining; just a translation to the keyboard realm of the harmonic and melodic features of the recording.
That’s not a piano solo rendition, BTW. There’s two or more pianos overdubbed there.

One thing that confuses me… why did this need three producers?

One thing that confuses me… why did this need three producers? Three Engineers, but I get your point. I am a little more excited about this after hearing GOK.

I would imagine Brian spent a fair bit of time at the piano playing these songs during lockdown and someone decided to document it. He posted some videos singing and playing. Very well I might add. I was hoping this was going to be some of these sessions.
Reading some of the comments you'd think Brian can't play very well. He's pretty accomplished when he wants to be. He would also have played the chord voicings when demonstrating parts to the boys, not just playing one part at a time.

One thing that confuses me… why did this need three producers? Two producers: Darian is co- so presumably the other is Brian.

Sounds like Brian basically did his usual thing on the piano then overdubbed melody lines with Darian looking over his shoulder. Conceptually, sort of iffy, but that's a very pleasant God Only Knows. A "musical director" credit needing to exist on an album that's ostensibly a guy playing his own songs at the piano is a bit weird at any level. I'm into whatever "Mt Vernon Farewell" is.

Nick Patrick, Darian and Brian are all given a producer credit in the personnel. Nick Patrick was a producer on the RPO album. Loudness of Kill Bill sirens going off in head may vary to person at that.

Personally, that Darian's name is all over the credits gives this thing a LOT of credibility for me.

I don't know what the various media you are all listening in but the tidal application version at least is really muddy and muffled. And this is of course a very high bitrate and an excellent way to stream, so I'm wondering whether the recording itself is just not very good and not very clear and not very sharp.

Thanks for that. I'd dearly love to know more about this US tour he's in the middle of, and I suspect his management would too.
