Hal, I’m still looking for the missing scenes from Horse Feathers that were cut for a reissue after the Legion of Decent took over the censorship office 🥸

Smile wasn’t nearly as difficult, actually! Once Craig and I nailed the sessionography, that is. But this project had soooo many configurations - 5 CD, 4 LP, 2 CD, 2 LP - it got confusing. Do you also have to compile streaming configurations, or do those companies just leverage the CD line-ups?

David played most of the parts on that one, as it turns out. Extraordinarily talented fellow.

Hal, I’m still looking for the missing scenes from Horse Feathers that were cut for a reissue after the Legion of Decent took over the censorship office 🥸 Those darn old prudes! You mean the scenes featuring Harpo on the couch with the toothsome Thelma Todd? I thought you had some stills, at least, but I guess that's a poor substitute. I just love his harp rendition of "Everyone Says I Love You" to her out on the veranda, I listen to that all the time. But (ahem) back to the subject at hand, how 'bout that Dennis Wilson material? Truly unreal. I guess the POB rehearsals are off the agenda or you would have mentioned them, would sure love to hear those. Plenty of other great stuff in the pipeline to keep everyone well satiated though. Keep up the good work, thanks and congratulations on the better-than-expected sales so far. That Times Square scrolling billboard or whatever it was was the Toppermost of the Poppermost!

I've always been curious about these two tracks; what was the idea behind Brian doing tracks titled Bowling and Basketball circa the MIU era, and do they exist in the vaults?

Ooh I can answer this one too! Both certainly do still exist in the vaults. Basketball apparently has a pretty cool arrangement with horns and whatnot, while Bowling is a very very bare, skeletal backing track. Both lack vocals.

My personal wish list as far as future projects is concerned would definitely be an in-depth look at the late 1975-early 1978 period…15 Big Ones, Love You, “New Album,” Adult Child, and the MIU sessions. I hope this happens!! This is the #1 thing I'd like to hear, and see more film of in great quality. Make it happen.

Anything left in the vaults from the 1969-71? Perhaps to see release on a future anniversary set or digital release? Thanks Alan

Alan - thanks to you (and Mark) for all the incredible work on these Beach Boys archival releases over the years! I'm still in the process of listening my way through the "Feel Flows" set, but I noticed that the bass on the new remaster of Sunflower (I haven't finished listening to the new remaster of Surf's Up yet) seems far more pronounced compared to the 2009 remaster. I've been listening to the new remaster on the same stereo equipment I've had for years and hadn't changed any EQ settings, but I've had to turn down the bass because it seems (at least to these ears) to drown out some of the other details in the mix. I was just curious what might have changed in the mix or mastering process, but completely acknowledge it may just be me. Thanks in advance!

I just wanted to follow up with my question regarding the Flame LP2 considering it may have gotten buried in the shuffle before this Q&A is over;
Considering Blondie has been clamoring for the second Flame album to be released especially with the recent passing of Steve Fataar last year, do you see the album being released to coincide with the 50th anniversary within the next few years / is there any possible reason why it has not been released yet / do you think a release could occur through a label like Omnivore?

I’m not really sure how the whole streaming configuration process works, to be honest!
There are a handful of tracks that we didn’t get to include on here - hoping we’ll have an opportunity to get those out someday, even though many of them are quite rough and unfinished.
A lot of people have asked about a track known as “Telephone Backgrounds,” for example. It’s really just Carl experimenting with some different Moog sounds. Not actually a song, more of a bunch of sound effects. Interesting, but it just didn’t fit… and we would have had to leave something off in order to include it.
I think my right thumb is about to fall off - I’d bettee call it a night before I develop Carpal Tunnel…
Thanks everyone! We’ll do this again, I’m sure!
And thank you so much for the kind words about the new box set. The positive reaction has been almost overwhelming… and I know it’s opening corporate doors for future deep dives into the archives.
Thanks again for setting this up, Dave!

Postscript:
Flame needs to happen! Still trying to make it a reality!!
The unreleased second album will blow some minds when it emerges from limbo.

Postscript: Flame needs to happen! Still trying to make it a reality!! The unreleased second album will blow some minds when it emerges from limbo. Steve Desper said it was better production-wise, song-wise and everything-wise. It'll happen sooner or later, when all the red tape gets untangled.

Enjoyed your time with us two weeks ago, and tonight. Again, love finding new knowledge. I love the details. And thank you both for this wonderful gift of music. -Will

Just watched the latest Beach Boys Talk episode with Alan Boyd. Thanks 'Mr Beard' for asking about Al Jardine's participation on bass regarding 'Seasons In The Sun'. Cheers!

Hey Alan!
Mrs Figgy here, as you know - I'm totally into the live stuff. Would love to hear there will be some box sets of live shows from the 70's - 90's...any chance of that happening one day?
Hope you are doing well! jojo

Postscript: Flame needs to happen! Still trying to make it a reality!! The unreleased second album will blow some minds when it emerges from limbo. Hi Alan (if you're still looking in!), Is there more than one version of this second Flame album in the vaults? I understand there was a partial, digital version released for download some months ago, for a few seconds, that one or two fans managed to grab before it evaporated. I seem to recall that Steve Desper commented around that time that it didn't sound quite like the version he'd recorded with the band way back when (not sure whether he got to hear the digi release or was going by the comments made by those who did get to hear it).
Perhaps there were different mixes, or different masters done back in the early 1970s? Are you able to comment further, or perhaps to comment on whether the release of this second, unheard Flame album is any closer?
