Hi all - welcome welcome and welcome to BB Lifestyles Survivor where we focus on the song concepts of the band's pre Pet Sounds classic years albums (except Today, Party, the Christmas one - and Surfin' Safari which we've covered in Label Debuts). Each round focused on a different element of the mythical Southern California Lifestyle the boys helped build - Surfing, Cars, Girls (and Love), and California (for some stuff that didn't quite fit the obvious generalisations mentioned). BUT NOW: ***IT'S TIME - CHOOSE YOUR SURVIVOR!!!***

Good morning, A. Egad, this voting business is addictive!  Well, if "South Bay Surfer" had been on board it would have been an easier choice: that and "Noble Surfer" with its dodgy vocal harmonies (someone is painfully out of tune on the word "sea"). Now that honour falls to "Stoked". I love the "sea of instrumentals" on SUSA, showcasing the Carl-Dave guitar machine in full flight, but "Stoked" is arguably the least appealing of the bunch... |

Don't Back Down...? No... I love that one. Rockin Surfer and Surf Jam (but South Bay would have beaten out the latter and as it is I'm tempted by No Bull...) And Don’t Back Down is still in the set lists. 🏄♂️ |

What, I wonder, has "The Rocking Surfer" done to deserve this treatment, except perhaps for rocking when he should have been surfing (or the other way round)? The last 20 seconds, from the descending chord sequence onwards, are worth the price of admission alone:

I like "Surf Jam" okay. "The Rocking Surfer" even more. But, they are the weakest on our list.
A quick snuffing, then we can argue about the rest.

I'll follow the tide and go with Surf Jam and Rocking Surfer.
There's really not a bad track on this list, but I think these are the two weakest.

Why do you guys prefer Stoked to Surf Jam? To me, Surf Jam has more energy and a cool story attached to it, how Brian bent down to scream into the bass amp's mic.

Close - a couple of distractions have come my way, not sure if it made the news in downtown Amsterdang, but Melbourne back in COVID lockdown for a week, so a bit of running around and logistics got priority! Breaking news tho', I've decided we should have a little visit to one of the other tribes on BB Survivor Lifestyle Island, and perhaps whittle down what is a heavily populated little village of another key interest of the band - Girls!!! - or for the more modern amongst us, we'll start considering the groups Love Songs by voting off 3 - yes, 3 of your least favourite from the list supplied.
Remember, these are all great songs, but you'll need to decide to "just-be-friends-okay?" with a couple of tunes before the end of this heat.

I voted off “Rhonda” (I’m more a fan of “Ronda”), “CCC” (nothing special apart from the big nod to Dion) and [gulp] “The Warmth Of The Sun”. And thereby hangs a tale: Of all the great early ballads, “TWOTS” is the one that does the least for me. Sorry! And of course, at the end of the day (whatever one’s time zone) this is just a game.
