A bit late in the day, of course, but I wonder which "Be True" folks are voting off. Or doesn't it matter because the song itself is cr@p? Album version only for this selection. Ha, thanks. Then in that case I'll vote for it and give "Cassius etc" a bit of a break...

I would like to put in a good word for be true to your school....it has a vigorous energy to it that reminds me of a Sousa march. I find it infectious. I love the flute breakdown. I love the cheerleaders. It is one my favorite beach boys tracks period. It is very far above ‘crap’, it is a brilliant song from an exciting young creative artist beginning to test the limits of what rock and roll could be.

Hey Barto, old sport - We’re talking album version here. Does that change anything in your “For” argument above LOL!

I love the single, not so sure about the album version though...

I am not quite as fond as the album version yet I wouldn’t go as far as throwing it in the toilet

It's a weird one for me - my recollection of school years wasn't as joyous as Brian's, in fact, were I to write a lyrical tribute to school would be more along the lines of "Burn, Burn, Burn" despite the years of therapy since graduating - Now, if it were Be True To Your University, that would be a different matter. The tune is pretty cool, but the enthusiasm and lyrics a little disengaging! I like what they attempted with the single - anything featuring The Honeys is fine by me!

I thought "Be True To Your School" was a minor song when I first heard it. The single version was better, but still not a big favorite. It will be on my list to go, soon.
My picks that faired worst this round: the 2 talk sessions and Dennis' drum track - not a showcase for his talents.

Now Our Favourite Sessions is finished, it’s time for Cassius Love and Sonny Wilson to pack up Denny’s Drums and get the heck outta here.
Come back soon for the next heat, where we shall lcd things and resume 1 vote per round!

Now we've all had some time to jump up and down in delight re Feel Flows Box news, have a bit of a cry and a sleep, it's time to get on with the grind of BB Survivor Lifestyles as we get back to the Surfing Tribe and start whittling down numbers.
Vote off the 1 track that is your least favourite of the remaining Surfing contenders! I hope we can't stuff that up! LOL.
Anyway, I'm gonna take the unpopular route and nominate Don't Back Down - surely not, a fan favourite and lauded by Beach Boys observers and historians - notably David Leaf who is going to be on BB Talk next week - but for their last Surfin' song for a couple of years, and arguably their last vintage Surfing song, I find it a bit slapped together in terms of songwriting, arrangement and production: a little rushed (especially the awkward falsetto delivering the clunky chorus), by the numbers and perhaps interchangeable with car song lyrics.
Anyway, bring it, beaches!!!

Great! Well, A, I read the last 35 pages of comments so no one can accuse me of not being up to date on FF. I can't remember crying though. "Noble Surfer" is first to bite the dust for reasons already explained (out-of-tuneness).

The coffee hasn't kicked in. I was sitting here trying to place No Bull Surfer (even after the discussion on the title last week).
So, that one gets my vote. Not because I didn't recognize it immediately, because it's my least favorite.

I voted off South Bay Surfer. Possibly the worst cover they ever recorded.

I voted off South Bay Surfer. Possibly the worst cover they ever recorded. I may be splitting hairs here, Doc, but I'd say "SBS" is their one and only adaptation, rather than another cover. Just my opinion...

Just my opinion... Maybe! If this is an adaptation, then so is Student Demonstration Time. Still, it is possibly the worst adaption that they ever recorded. 😋

Thanks for pulling me up on that.

I voted off South Bay Surfer. Possibly the worst cover they ever recorded. Ah, yes, interesting comment. I’ve pulled all “covers” from this round, in anticipation of the upcoming - BB Survivor: Under the Covers! (geddit?!) - I did debate whether to pop this one in the covers cache, but decided the lyrical content was enough to have it paddle out, turn around etc.

Not because I didn't recognize it immediately, because it's my least favorite. There’s a rare scan of an early handwritten “Surfin’ USA” line-up floating around the web that places No Bull Surfer immediately after Farmer’s Daughter.
