Had to share this, encountered by chance today (it’s not a new thing but it’s coming out on a new comp CD).
Interesting towards the end, as it nears the 5min mark: it’s like someone said “We need it to be longer,” and the mixer’s, like, “year, urm, okay… what do these knobs do? Let’s twiddle ‘em and find out!”
I can see a lot of EH folks digging this on the dance floor.

While I appreciate that people want to cover great songs, there is barely a great reworking of anything written by Brian. I mean, when you start with a Brian composition, we’ve already heard the best version. Just my opinion.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it's in the context of what is mainly an avant-garde jazz album from the late '90s, co-led by the brilliant pianist Jaki Byard.
They play it a bit sardonically in the rhythm, but the saxophonist obviously loves the tune. They even work with the modulation.

I regularly find myself returning to this performance of Surf's Up: it really highlights the complexity and musical intracies of the original and sounds absolutely amazing. It features Bruce and Mike, as well as Darian, Probyn and Jeff so I guess isn't strictly a cover but I just love how it demonstrates the depth needed to faithfully recreate one of Brian's finest pieces.
Yeah the Fendertones are quite impressive. They are basically to the Beach Boys what the Russian band Leonid & Friends are to Chicago. They briefly resurfaced on Facebook a year or two ago teasing the potential for new music but nothing has come of it as of yet. In terms of interesting covers from them I'd say their take on the band's rare song "The Monkey's Uncle" (with Annette Funicello) was quite delightful.

I heard this version of "Sloop John B" (note the abbreviated title) by Bryn Terfel on Dutch classical radio this afternoon and thought, " Someone's been listening to our Boys!" Wales's pride and joy is joined here by the a cappella vocal group Fisherman's Friends (John McDonnell, Toby Lobb, John Lethbridge, Jeremy Brown and Jon Cleave), with Evan Carson (percussion), Archie Churchill-Moss (acoustic guitar), Ben Tunnicliffe (double bass) and Patrick Rimes (piano): www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9556113--bryn-terfel-sea-songs

Discovered this only a few weeks ago. Think this group has it. They get a lot of things right from the period.

When my nieces were children, I gave them one of those toy pianos and showed them how to play Beach Boys songs. You can make chords, too. Doesn't have to be one note at a time. That was a neat post, John.

I posted this in the "bells" thread in the non-BB section but it makes sense to post it here too!
Here's the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble with a rollicking Beach Boys Medley:

Yeah it's a fantastic jazz cover. It would have totally fit right in with any Charlie Brown special back in the day.
