Me too. Lennon's piano and vocal parts are not extracted properly, and run at the wrong speed as well. "Strawberry Fields Forever" even runs on two wrong speeeds!

Even a complete cynic such as I can't argue that this is orders of magnitude better than previous offerings. Technically, it's an impressive feat and yes, it undeniably sounds much more like the BB... and yet... and yet...
Whatever, enjoy. I did.

Really get carried along with that, I’d buy that for its own sake cos it’s the kinda music I love.

AI may well destroy the world as we know it, but it will likely happen slowly enough that the "geezer contingent" in the various BB satellite world will be elsewhere when the apocalypse hits. My Dad (RIP) is probably snickering about all this somewhere. But I think he would have been thrilled to hear this track, and I suspect that it would have changed his mind about OMR--the versions available to him during his lifetime had always left him scratching his head. When you add the right human intelligence and sensitivity to the use of AI, you've got a better chance of getting something like this.

Can you just imagine the bootlegs that are going to come out in the future, ‘New Hitherto Undiscovered BB Tapes uncovered!’ .. it’ll fool a lot of people into thinking it’s our boys. Fake AF! Now everyone can be a Beach Boy .. Just AI your vocals .. and release it. Impressively fake, but .. fake is still fake .. this grizzly ol’ devil isn’t buying into it. *My opinion only speaks for myself, of course.

This is interesting- but I'd like to hear someone take on putting Dennis on Sail on Sailor so we might imagine what that might have sounded like. But, I do agree - fake is fake. That is the difference between a technician and an artist. You can technically manipulate something but only the artist has warts-and-all, je ne sais quoi. 🎶

Dae Lims also reimagined a more complete cover of "Walk On By":

I believe the above photo was taken on May 24th at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, CA., the first of many concerts at this venue in the early 60's. Brian was off the road even that early (even though promotional photos and ads and poster had his name on it) and Al filled in for him. William Morris agency booked them for $750. Came out to $52 each and they were very happy with that! Promoter Fred was what, 19 years old at the time?
Oh yeah, by the way, that "Thank Him" AI IS good!

Indeed. AI done right. Although these could be considered unethical as technically I don't think these are the actual Beach Boys singing; rather Dae Lims handling the vocals and running each vocal track into AI to sound like them. But putting that aside and just appreciating it as a loving fan tribute, Dae Lims really has done some magical work.

Speaking of AI..... View AttachmentThese guys had some good songs - "Ape Days A Week", "Happiness Is A Warm Banana", and "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Human". … and coincidentally, Macca is proposing to resurrect one of the reject Lennon demos that were worked up for the anthology series. “Now and Then” will benefit from some AI to isolate Lennon’s vocal and remove excess hiss, and ultimately be released as the last Beatles song. Life imitating art… or in this case, life imitating Mikie’s post! www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65881813Just heard that "Now & Then" will be released next week, 11/2/2023. Originally recorded as a solo piano/vocal demo by Lennon (circa 1979) it'll be released as a a stand-alone double A-side single, paired with a new mix of "Love Me Do". Also re-releases of compilations 1962–1966 and 1967–1970 ("Blue" and "Red") albums, the latter of which will include "Now and Then." The song was considered as a potential third reunion single by Paul, George & Ringo for "The Beatles Anthology" in 1995, but was shelved until 2022. It now features new overdubs by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, guitar tracks by George Harrison from the abandoned 1995 sessions, and Lennon's voice "extricated" from the original demo using the AI demixing technology used by Peter Jackson for his 2021 "Get Back" documentary.

As a huge Beatles history buff (I could have made it my career if i had thought about it as a teen) I LOVE AI. I think it's incredible and I know for a fact that John Lennon in particular would have been ALL OVER this technology if it had existed in his lifetime. He was always searching for this kind of stuff to help with his vocals. Is it possible to use it the wrong way? YES! But that doesn't mean we should close our minds to the good it can do. With it, we can clean up unfinished demos or even fix tracks that have errors in them. Not to mention: Say what you will about the actual song choices and arrangements, but HE FIXED BARNYARD! HE. FIXED. BARNYARD. WE CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THE VOICES NOW! If that doesn't tell you it can be used for good, I can't help you! I mean, listen to how he made CITFOTM\LOOK! That second verse! THE OUTRO!!! WOW! __ Also, I can confirm Now And Then is NOT being deep fake'd! It's just using AI to clean the Demo up!

I think using AI to extract musical elements that are actually there but difficult to hear is OK, but to expropriate someone else’s actual identity, especially when still alive, like Brian Wilson or Paul McCartney, I have a problem with.

It's worth noting that in the case of the SMiLE remix i posted up there, the author has received Van Dyke Parks' encouragement. I think that's about as close to permission as a fan can realistically hope to ask for, and I think it comes across more as a loving tribute than "Ripping Brian off" By the same token... This makes me cry. This is F*ckin' beautiful, and I don't see malice in this at all. There's love dripping off it. The perfect harmonies, the bass, the use of Sir George Martin's score, Ringo's perfect drum style...it's amazing, in my opinion. And just to kick the people who say AI "Can't do emotion" in the Ding Dang's, check out the perfect "Ooo-ooo-oooh!" from Paul at the end. Flawless, and absolutely a run he'd do, too.

What could that possibly add besides a faint sense of unease about the whole thing?
