Nobody that I’m interested in seeing. I think I’ll pass. Nice to see that you’re keeping an open mind. I know, isn’t it wonderful?

No point in having a tribute show unless the honorees are there because otherwise it makes no sense from a theatrical point of view. Maybe a prior post was correct and that there are negotiations going on with managers and families and such to see who can show up.

I, for one, haven’t been impressed with pop music since the eighties, but whoever is in charge of producing a Grammy Salute to The Beach Boys can’t be faulted for selecting artists based on their own Grammy successes.
Beck - won 8 Grammys. Brandi Carlile - won 6 Grammys. Fall Out Boy - best new album Grammy nomination. Hanson - 3 Grammy nominations Norah Jones - won 9 Grammys. Lady A - won 7 Grammys. John Legend - won 12 Grammys. Little Big Town - won 4 Grammys. Michael McDonald - won 5 Grammys. Mumford & Son - won 2 Grammys. My Morning Jacket - 3 Grammy nominations. Pentatonix - 3 Grammy nominations. Charlie Puth - 4 Grammy nominations. LeAnn Rimes - won 2 Grammys. St. Vincent - won 3 Grammys Take 6 - won 10 Grammys. Weezer - won 1 Grammy.

Beck - 90's phenomenon that largely passed me by. Brandi Carlile - Never heard of her. Is it Belinda's daughter?Fall Out Boy - Is this the same Badly Drawn Boy?Hanson - Have their voices broken yet? Norah Jones - Product of nepotism Lady A, - Lady who?John Legend - A legend in his own room? Little Big Town - Little impact Michael McDonald - Ee I ee I....No Mumford & Sons - Even their fans hate them now My Morning Jacket - I'll get my coat Pentatonix - At this point in the concert I'll be catatonic
Charlie Puth - How is this pronounced? Consider changing name for the UK market LeAnn Rimes - Sounds like a cheesy 80's rap outfit St. Vincent - The patron saint of charity. Beggars can't be choosers eh? Take 6 - That reminds me, where's my medication? Weezer - Yaay! Weezer are headlining! No. Badly Drawn Boy is a solo act, Fall Out Boy are a band. Lady A used to be Lady Antebellum. Well, they still are aside from a sudden attack of woke.

As I read some of the posts and look further into some of the artist and remember some songs I may have known obliquely, I would say in bono that it's pretty interesting assortment of different American genres deeply rooted in the various traditions in which the Beach Boys themselves are rooted, in terms of vocal performance, Harmony , and rhythm and blues and jazz.
and one could argue from an artistic standpoint that there's a great sensitivity toward composition and the aesthetics of songwriting and performance and vocal artistry exemplified by the different acts that have been asked to perform.
So as I think about sitting there and watching a long night of filming, thinking that we're going to hear some sensitive and inspired and creative performances of Beach Boys songs.
which in the best possible sense can prove the richness of that music and also its sophistication and at once it's roots in traditions. The fact that young musicians and the particular variety of artists assembled here could interpret Beach Boys songs and appreciate the Beach Boys music and vocal artistry could very well be a wonderful testament.
My initial feeling was that I wanted to see people from the '60s that I knew and maybe Paul showing up talking about the BB songs , but on second thought the absence of any contemporary figures, Dean and the like and the few people that are still around from those days, is indicative of a desire to associate The Beach Boys with these particular artists and their popularity and their listening bases and their music communities.
In that sense I'm quite excited to see the show. This all aside from the issue of whether the beach boys will be there which would be ridiculous if they aren't. Just having Quick Cuts where the Beach Boys are sitting in their houses saying "great thanks everybody really wonderful we're so honored" would be really really goofy. And I don't know how you sing a tribute song unless you can point up in the balcony or in the front row and say "love you Brian love you Mike etc."
As for Brandi Carlile I've seen her on various videos with Joni Mitchell and I think part of her Mission as an artist is attempting to and supporting Elder legendary artists so she is a highly respected thoughtful humanitarian and artist and diverse genres so a creative force of her magnitude and popularity is deeply significant here. Same is true of Norah Jones and John legend.

Fall Out Boy - Is this the same Badly Drawn Boy? Nor the same as Boy George, Sonny Boy Williamson or Boy & Bear. It's like thinking the Beach Boys and the Backstreet Boys are the same. Or the Beastie Boys. Come on guys 🙄😉

Amazingly diverse and talented group of top notch performers. Have been a McDonald fan since Steely Dan/Doobie Brothers days before his own solo stuff took off. Saw Take 6 in a local church- amazing! Daughter introduced me to Brandi Carlile, she has done some nice things with Elton John. Hope this brings fans of these groups into the Beach Boys world. Of course I hope they play too, even if just a few songs Can't wait to see the show. Amazing and wonderful that my favorite band I discovered over 48 years ago is still popular, performing, and being honored!

Bbfinfl has got it right as far as I'm concerned and writes something in accord with my message above for sure. If the fans of all these artists now pay attention to the Beach Boys it's going to deeply secure their legacy. And believe me from a teacher's perspective this event is going to create the possibility for a greater Outreach among different age groups and disparate listening communities. For the first time actually I'm excited about this show. The unknown factor will The Beach Boys be there?

The list of performers itself will make an excellent research assignment. In what ways are these bands related to or influenced by the beach boys. So it's an absolute teaching tool.

I remember when Norah Jones was the biggest star on the planet, early 2000's. Liked her singing, but haven't heard anything new from her in 15 years. I also remember when Leann Rimes was the teenage country singer that everybody loved, but again, it's been a long time since I've heard anything from her. Beck always seemed to me to be kind of novelty act - "I'm a loser baby". I remember one year Mumford and Beards won a bunch of Grammys - 2013? That's about all. Michael McDonald is probably a very nice guy, but his music got so overplayed in the early 80's, I still haven't recovered. And I've got such a long way to go (such a long way to go), to make it to the border of Mexico...

It might be worth noting here that when Take 6's first album came out in 1988, there were a couple of quotes from established artist printed on the back, much like blurbs on a book cover. One of those quotes was from Brian Wilson. I can't recall exactly what he said, but it helped convince me to buy the CD, the first of many I would buy by this amazing sextet.

My utter disparagement of any band who isn't the Beach Boys is a defensive reaction to the years of derision I suffered as a Beach Boys fan in the '80s. In my later years it has become an amusing (to me) affectation.
I of course welcome any artist wanting to pay homage to them, though I think it should take the form of the Boys standing on stage whilst every recording artist in existence queues up to walk past them and bow their heads, much like the Queen's funeral. Paul and Ringo should lead the procession.

I'm going to listen one album A Day by all the artists listed here in sequence just to be familiar or re-familiarized with their music so I'll have a better way of understanding their arrangement and choice of a Beach Boys song.
Take six immediately recalls the four freshman and their inclusion here is completely obvious and wonderful. I won't bore everyone with tedious Day by Day updates, but just to suggest that the way to understand this better is to learn more.... evidently a traditional bit of pedagogical advice.

Dang! What a let down of pivotal artists that 'should' be honoring The Beach Boys. Where are the classic bands like 'Foster The People', 'LoCash' or '5 Second of Summer'?? Seriously, this makes the 'All Star Tribute to Brian Wilson' look quite like a masterpiece..... Which it is.

Who would you want? Dylan Macca Springsteen Paul Simon (been there and done it - done it well, too) Townsend and Daltrey (both big fans) Clapton (same, apparently) Wonder? (if only) King Jagger? Fleetwood Mac And left of field, Paddy McAloon...

Little Big Town has a song called girl crush that begins with an arpeggio similar to the lonely sea. I wonder if they'll sing the lonely sea.

Obviously he means Elvis. BM, your video is "unavailable. The uploader has not made this video available in your country". It wouldn't happen to be "Love And Pride", would it?
