The Paul Simon tribute wasn't bad although I admit I didn't watch the whole thing (and I *love* Paul Simon's music). The Beach Boys tribute has potential to be good especially if they invite guests who already have an affection for the band. There's already been several tributes to Brian before; one being the mostly excellent 2001 tribute and the other being the borderline "okay" MusiCares thing where at least we got a sweet performance of Brian and band doing "Heroes & Villains". I won't write this thing off until I know who's involved.

Yes it could be that it's a bunch of contemporary artists that I've never heard of or none of us has ever heard of or whose work we don't really acknowledge as canonical or who knows maybe Billy Joel will be back there and Carly Simon and maybe Paul and Ringo show up and other legendary luminaries from the historical Beach Boy universe.
But the excitement and the Mystery was worth $100 plus two Uber rides back and forth. And I do admit that I am anxiously waiting for further information and check here somewhat frequently in hope that some of you hear something as well.

'Hey, Bubba, I hear Weezer is gonna be on some Beach Boys thingy later this year". "Uh-huh. Are they going to sing Africa?"

Weezer's a pretty solid choice. They even did a song not all that long ago called "Beach Boys" (https://youtu.be/RsG37JcEQNw).
Not sure who else would be a good fit for this tribute concert though. Who would we like to see participate in this one?

Yes I've been trying to think of that but also my main question is whether the Beach Boys themselves are going to be there sitting in the front row in tuxedos and they come out and play something at the end or they'll be just cut ends to pre-fabricated interviews with them from various locations showing gratitude. And there's really zero information about this except that billboard information and I myself am only rehashing my own rehashed prior posts so a total unknown, but I got my ticket and I'm going to show up and just see what the heck is happening.
I think Al is on a cruise right now but you think that somebody would put on their Facebook or Twitter feed some full information like looking forward to the tribute and seeing the boys or something. I think Alan just retweeted the announcement from the Grammy people about the event itself so I will continue to come here if any of you hear information

I feel so young! I feel even younger! I’ve heard of most of them and even seen two acts live… on purpose… and paid for tickets! Little Big Town and Norah Jones. Still I have no interest in tribute stuff concerning The Beach Boys anymore including this. It’s been done too many times. After 60 plus years there’s not really more to give us IMO. Even a documentary… what would Mike or Al say that we haven’t already heard?

And amazingly or maybe not so amazingly in all this no reference at all to whether the beach boys will be there or perform themselves.

Yes I agree there's no legendary favorites here that I would wait in line to see even though I'm going to wait in line to see them
and I've simply committed because I already have a ticket and it's pretty easy to just jump into a cab and say take me to the Dolby Theater so I'll just be very curious to be witnessing what's happening
and if it's all a contrived nothing without the Beach Boys involved either in attending or performing --and anything short of Performing is pretty vacant-- then I'll go home disappointed and I'll let you know.

As John said, hardly A List... but then, I'm an old fart who still thinks stuff released in 1985 is recent. The song selection and alloction with be interesting.

I remember decades ago hearing the band Take 6, and thought their vocal harmonies were incredible. But for some reason I never bought any of their albums. Until I saw this lineup, I had completely and totally forgotten about them. I just checked out a song of theirs on YouTube - and yes they are incredible. If anything, this Grammy awards show would be great if it exposes any other previously unknown artist of that caliber to me or anyone who hasn’t heard them before.

As for the band themselves appearing: for the Paul Simon salute, it was announced he was performing when the lineup was posted.

Beck - 90's phenomenon that largely passed me by.
Brandi Carlile - Never heard of her. Is it Belinda's daughter?
Fall Out Boy - Is this the same Badly Drawn Boy?
Hanson - Have their voices broken yet?
Norah Jones - Product of nepotism
Lady A, - Lady who?
John Legend - A legend in his own room?
Little Big Town - Little impact
Michael McDonald - Ee I ee I....No
Mumford & Sons - Even their fans hate them now
My Morning Jacket - I'll get my coat
Pentatonix - At this point in the concert I'll be catatonic
Charlie Puth - How is this pronounced? Consider changing name for the UK market
LeAnn Rimes - Sounds like a cheesy 80's rap outfit
St. Vincent - The patron saint of charity. Beggars can't be choosers eh?
Take 6 - That reminds me, where's my medication?
Weezer - Yaay! Weezer are headlining!

Of course I'd like to see some contributions from the guys themselves (or even just their presence). We'll see what happens.
Apart from that. As nice at is would be to see some famous stars of 'our' time; it's not a bad thing if there are younger artists and groups that show their love and appreciation for the BB's. Who knows it might help to gain interest from younger generations.

I imagine there will be 2 or 3 super sweet covers coming out of this. Beck, Weezer, Michael McDonald, Hanson and John Legend are those that catch my interest but yeah hopefully it’ll be at least intersting like the Brian Wilson tribute was.
I remember enjoying the Backstreet Boys run through of When I Grow Up a lot on that one and they weren’t someone I was looking forward to see perform, so yeah I’ll reserve judgement on any picks until I’ve seen / heard them perform.
Ideally for a tribute / anniversary concert it would be nice to have some kind of The Last Waltz affair with the Beach Boys reformed one last time and performing alongside fellow industry legends. But I guess the lack of this kind of event is partly on the band members themselves getting along and being in agreement on the event arrangements and musicians and which artists they play with etc, and as we all know the harmony there is unfortunately lacking sometimes.
Hopefully the anniversary documentary will be great and be the fitting ‘tribute’ we are all after 🙏
