I think it would be interesting to schedule a Zoom for all of us to meet and share our thoughts face to face. If you like the idea, I can reach out to the team that put the collection together and invite any of them to participate. I'm not one to discuss mixes, but I can speak to the band's history. What do you all think? I can't see the team wanting to do that, it would be very stressful for them. I find the concept nerve-wracking too, because it would be awful if it descended into chaos. If it was carefully moderated though, I'd join in, but I think a text-based Q and A would work better. The one with Brian they had over at Smiley some years back worked really well as the questions were vetted in advance. Such a formula would ensure no personal attacks, and all questions and replies can be considered and reasonable. I'd like the opportunity to thank them for all the MANY times they've got it right apart from anything else. Mark and Alan have played vital roles in the band's history. Howie too kept us updated about the Feel Flows project and apparently fought hard to ensure its release. I don't think anyone would question his commitment to the band. Recent events though have got the fanbase worried, and it would be nice if these concerns could be acknowledged, even of we don't like the answers. I can see such an event prompting two outcomes. Either they double down on their approach, which would be the defensive reaction, or they listen and make some changes to their philosophy. That would be the proactive response and hopefully lead to an outcome where both the fans and the creative team are in tune with each other. I do think some compromise is necessary from both parties. On our part we need to accept this is a business.

I applaud Mark, Alan and Howie for keeping the flame alive, for putting the Beach Boys’ music out there in the spotlight with new releases and for giving us so much fantastic unreleased material. I don’t mind them trying something new with the expanded Sounds of Summer. I think a lot of the criticism stems from the fact that fans are worried about how the upcoming CatP/Holland set is going to sound. I’m pretty much just repeating what we’ve been saying for the last week or so, but the above is what I would like to communicate to the team behind SoS.

What do you all think? Yeah David, maybe if you could get Alan and/or Mark, we might get some adult conversation, but Howie can't handle constructive criticism.
Did you see how he reacted just to the comments around here? Furthermore, he went on to rubbish EH at Smiley afterwards:
"Yeah, it's a bad scene over there.....I can't take it personally. There's so much anger, frustration and DEEP PAIN at that space. .....It's not cool. It's not healthy. And it's definitely not for me."
This is down and out the most friendliest and welcoming Beach Boys board on the internet right now, and it's continually growing and the majority of people agree. I doubt he will come back and apologize, but who knows?

Gotta agree with this. Not only for the reasons you state, Rick, but also because I couldn’t listen to Howie through speakers in case my kids walked in and heard the tirade of foul language he seems to make a point of using. As the public face of the team putting these releases together, his language is post-watershed material, and it’s not necessary. If a professional writer can’t get his points across without cussing, he needs to take a long, hard look at himself. It might have been cool among kids in 1976, but even the less-impressionable kids these days tend to be more mature. Rant over.

Meh, can't possibly be as foul as the kids probably use on the playground anyway.
But I do especially like the idea of a Zoom call just to plain ol' meet each other.

My son’s 10. I won’t let him anywhere near Howie’s expletive-laden sermons.

It’s a cult of weak minded/weak willed individuals who need someone to worship and kneel too, be it Brian, Guitarfool, or Howie. No need to mince words with such a hostile and mean spirited lot. Sorry/not sorry. This is supposed to be about a collective love for music.

I don't follow Howie and have not heard his interviews, but I am aware of his love of language [lol]. I enjoyed Howie's online pieces for The Beach Boys newsletters for both Carl and Brian's birthdays, and I like his liner notes. If anyone gets to the point where he/she is fearful for writing his/her opinion because someone is going to 'troll,' and then copy and paste it elsewhere just for the sake of attacking or complaining about that person and/or post … well, it just speaks to the character of that person. This is the only message board/forum that I visit because I think Dirk, Mike, and Alan are class acts. Anyone who thinks otherwise has no reason to stop by. As for the rest of it, I don't need anyone to tell me how cool The Beach Boys are. I already know. My heart knows what it likes, and — frankly — that's enough for me. I hope it is for everyone else too. All you need is the love of music. That's kind of the reason I don't write about 'mixes' … I listen with my heart.

Sorry/not sorry. This is supposed to be about a collective love for music. The thing is nothing you've said is about music and is unkind towards others. There are those at the ssmb who have made poor comments towards me in the past (and for all I know they still do), but it doesn't matter. Even if this was the ssmb it wouldn't matter. These platforms exist because of the music created by The Beach Boys and its members … particularly Brian Wilson, so let's stay the course. If there's anything that creates ill will it is best to move forward and leave it behind. I can't think of a single circumstance where anyone benefits from anger unless it is used to learn, so it isn't a repeated experience in your life. I want to do a Zoom to meet all of you because you are all as passionate as I am. The idea was born out of mutual love of music, and the joy that music brings.

Unkind words toward those who have repaid the effort a million times over and whom collectively have steered Beach Boys fandom away from the music and into fiefdom? You’re right, and I stand behind my words. I have talked about and will continue to talk about music all over this board. But there is no rule here where must ignore and not discuss when others make the music all about their personal views and feelings and egos.

And this really is about the music. Now more than ever. Individuals who have tried to turn a love for the music into obedience and defense of turf are now in the favor of those who believe that THEY know what the music should sound like over those who created the music and the vast majority of those who have loved the music for over 50 years. We’re kind of drifting into a dangerous chapter here.
Now back to the music:
I’ve said my piece and will shut up about it. No need to be repetitive.

I read that sarcastic comment over there on SS. It's only one poster, maybe he's having a bad day?
David's idea seems to have been met with a positive reaction here. I certainly have no desire to tear into anyone. As a fan who potentially buys these products I just want my concerns addressed.
I regret any part I played in last week's anger, but I've since tried to make amends and see things from all sides. We're all only human after all, it's easy to forget that sometimes on a text-based medium.

I’d love to see a zoom event, with some good facilitation to make sure emotional concerns are chanelled appropriately.
Or even the chance to later watch a limited audience event, a bit like a Q&A style show would be a great addition to the BB media that is available to us today.
