Wish they lost that intro...and just led off with "When it's ice cream weather..." that song needed no intro. You get a split second with a new song to hit it out of the park, and get into someone's head. Love the video with Brian at that big grand piano, reminding me of Leon Russell.

Quite like the intro – there’s a touch of military parade ground to the drumming at times – but always thought the song could have rocked a little harder, which would have better-emphasised the calm of the middle eight. Love this performance though, quite raw for the BBs which makes the harmonies grittier. Can anyone name the sidemen for me please? Do I see Ron Altbach and JWG? Here’s Bachman’s own take on the song, in which I reckon I hear a huge debt to Louie Louie. Bachman’s version is perhaps better for being heavier, though the BBs flows better, and the vocals are spot on, Carl’s especially. And Bachman’s middle-eight is just a shitty mess. Perfection might have met the two approaches in the middle.

From a purely selfish standpoint...that it would top the charts. I felt the same way about Slip on Through...that the power measures were not at the outset and their strong suit was not leading. The intro sounded like an early 60s throwback that they did not need. They were looking for a comeback at the point and those first few track seconds hold the key. And charting was a problem with both of those songs. That was the era of those guys you mentioned, and I think they were on that performance as well. Carl did sound great.

Amazing to have Brian in one spot for about an hour and yet for the most part, he is fully engaged during the interview. This is from 2002, and he is in good mood. Only a couple of 'watch' checks throughout, so he is seems obvious he is enjoying himself. Brian fires up with interest here and there, as the interviewer is a little slow and even lethargic at times when it comes to Brian. Too bad the audio recording quality is soft/loud and frustrating to listen to, but edited properly, this would be a top watch. I love this question: Interviewer: 'What do you miss most about Carl and Dennis?' Brian: 'I miss the friendship....The cocaine days with Dennis... I miss those days, I really do'. Interviewer: 'But Brian! That's what partially got you into trouble!' Brian: 'I know! I wish I could have kept doing it'. The big fella never fails to say what's on his mind. If you have an hour and some isolated listening (you'll need it to hear the interview questions), watch Brian in an interview on a good day!

Interesting the LSD talk and the whole "genius" thing where "Til I Die" came from and he is very straightforward. Thanks very much for that. Pete Fornatale. I knew I recognized that voice! He interviewed Dennis - probably the best and candid one, ever.

Apols if this already posted… didn’t appear in a (an admittedly limited) search.

Perfection might have met the two approaches in the middle. I'd say Bobby F bad-ass on drums, Mike Meros on (plugged-in) keys, Joe Chemay on bass. And while I'm here, and you didn't ask, that Union version totally sucks!

Without the intro we'd miss out on audience reactions and Al & Bruce having a laugh (and Carl's growl)!

OK, shameless plug time. My PhD project is a VR concept album, which I've thankfully finished after 4 years! I wanted to share this relevant track with you as it is a homage to Pet Sounds and Smile. Travel from Ancient Greece to the San Diego Zoo petting paddock circa 1966.
The music is binaural, so it works best through headphones. Think Dolby Atmos, only better! No special equipment necessary. If anyone's interested, I can post a link to the entire album on the EH Music Makers space.

That Brian interview with Pete Fornatelle is obviously not from 2002! How could they be discussing the smile documentary, which includes footage from the world premiere of Smile in February 2004 in 2002!!! The beautiful dreamer film they are discussing was released in October 2004, so this is probably from 2005.

With all the Beatles hype around at the moment.... This recently appeared on 'George Harrison's' YouTube channel, Brian's performance of 'My Sweet Lord'. I don't know if my memory is serving me right, but I remember seeing this at the time and it was a bit of a 'trainwreck' performance. To me it seems some critical tweaking has been done, but I can actually enjoy this more because of it. Maybe I've changed my mind too..? Brian Wilson - My Sweet Lord

Me, too. 1976 was one of the best years of my life. It looks like a rehearsal (Anaheim?) with Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Billy Hinsche, Ed Carter, Bobby Figueroa, Carli Munoz, Steve Love, and a couple three roadies. Am I missing anybody notable? Review of Carli's book by Alan Smith. esquarterly.com/2023/11/04/review-a-fools-journey-to-the-beach-boys-and-beyond-by-carli-munoz/

YouTuber Elliot Roberts does a detailed overview of the 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢 album. Yep! I was going to post this here also, but 'awesome' beat me! This guy does a great job with some overall history, and uses some great samples and video archival clips to tell the story. I enjoyed it! Cool presentation.

A few days ago this kid on YouTube put up a pretty favorable "reaction" video to his first ever experience listening to 𝑃𝑒𝑡 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑠. Glad the album still continues to impress new listeners.
