This is a well-made and very funny breakdown of the Summer in Paradise album: Not a well-made video in my view. It more closely resembles a project for a Rock History 101 course where the student knows the professor's favorite music style is not classic 60s rock. It is a gloss-over cliff notes edition where the video assembler/narrator has not plumbed the depths of the late 80s when the new arrival in music is the music video for VH1 and MTV. It almost replaces the car radio or extends it into the home for everyone to watch. You watch your music instead of just listening to it. It is theater and choreography with music. IIRC, that Hot Fun in the Summertime looks as though it was recorded in the MGM wing on Disneyworld where Kokomo was also recorded. That would have shown some research initiative on the content creator's part instead of the ageist viewpoint presented. The target demographic audience is/was not boomers, born up until the later 50s (who are paying the cable TV bill) but the consumers who are largely born in the late 70s/early 80s and who go to films such as Troop Beverly Hills, Cocktail, and Flight of the Navigator which used those tracks on Still Cruisin'. Surely it was dual-purpose for rock era folks, (paying the admission) but it was pre-teens and teens going to those movies maybe dropped off at the theater door. He does emphasize that it is too synth and protools heavy, which just about everyone concedes, as a weakness but a function of late 80s/early 90s technology, in his Grim Reaper silhouetted hood. It is a dated sound just as big hair is a dated look. Can SIP be redeemed with a do-over? I very much think so because the underlying music is actually good. Especially Lahaina Aloha, among of Carl's last vocal tracks. Brian was not available for those sessions because he was being falsely imprisoned, not by a psychiatrist (he gets this wrong with his sloppy attempt at research) but a non MD, psychologist, who was wrongly entrusted by a court, with Brian's care. Some basic research would have revealed what was going on at that time and how Landy was unmasked on a prime time TV show by Brian's then future wife also in silhouette. The band/family was cooperating with this rescue effort in the background. But whatever else can be said by this poorly-informed "content creator," about Kokomo, it undeniably fills-the-space where it is played/performed to this very day. That video won't get a thumb's up from me. This is not in your direction but the content/video creator, and where I think he gets this mostly wrong. There is a lot of really good research on the band, some done by members right on this forum, if content creators even bothered. It is shocking what gets uploaded, on You Tube, with not a whole lot of research.

Coolest/funniest track on the set. I think it is the closer. Just for a goof.
Stride-style GOK with a metronome in the background.

Wow! Check this out! A great and faithful version of 'It's Ok' by The Travoltas. Ah, they’re back! A dutch pop group that is known for their love for the BB. They have covered several songs of them that appeared on several of their albums. This cover speaks for itself. (can’t find a pic of the back, and I’m on a holiday right now (and can’t scan my copy), but be assured that the back is also in the same style as the original)
I remember going to a concert of them somewhere in the 90s, when they did a small tour with just Beach Boys covers (I think it was called the Marlboro Flashback tours in which several Dutch artists and groups did covers of their favourite artist/group). Anyway, more info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Travoltas

Thanks, jk I bought this at the time just because of the cover, I had no clue who the Travolta's were. The album is great and it's a fun record! You can't half tell by the cover, as it's similar to the Boys' 'Party!' album in style. It's a collection of unplugged acoustic uptempo songs, and I got more than I bargained for when I got the CD. I wouldn't know their 'normal' material if I fell over it, but was pleasantly surprised how good this album was. Some real good 'ear worms' in there too.

Came across this clip of Brian on Jools Holland’s BBC show, really like this stripped down edition of his band, makes me wish Brian had done an MTV Unplugged special. He also sounds really great on They Can’t Take That Away from Me. I’ve always really loved the Gershwin album.

Not directly 'The Beach Boys', but didn't know where to share it.... It's a video recording with Carol Kaye and Earl Palmer on drums doing 'Please Let Me Wonder'. The artist is Lonnie Carter, who is??, but there's a couple of 'wrecking crew' members involved also in a couple of this person's other uploads. Other 'wrecking crew' members are Plas Johnson and Mike Melvoin who have both featured on Beach Boys records. Seems like it was somebody's personal project to do....? Anyway, for what it's worth....

Needs no introduction- the two most badass bands ever. Nice! Interesting setlist. Kind of surprised that for this particular show "Help Me Rhonda" was not featured in the "Beachago" setlist. I have heard a boot from the Atlanta show from the same tour where both bands performed the song together, and Chicago’s Bill Champlin proceeded to convert the song into a heapin' helpin' bit of soul.

What is the connection and relationship musically lyrically or in terms of composition between this song and the Low Spark of High Heel Boys by traffic, or am I just dreaming that the two songs sounds similar?

IMO, you're dreaming. But it's a really nice dream. What did you eat before you went to sleep?

Somehow those songs are overlaid in my brain; when I hear one it morphs into the other. I can't read the charts or make any comparison ;it's just a subjective feeling and I wondered if others felt it as well.
