American Band was an amazing video at that time and is what first got me interested in the band. It had a lot of mystery to me because I’d never heard of Smile and did not know anything about the band. It created lots of questions-for example in some home movie footage you see David M but he was never discussed in the movie. You also see Brian in various interviews and I was wondering if it was all new but I now know that they mostly used existing footage (such as Brian being interviewed by the Old Grey Whistle Test or Brian’s classic in bed interview from the It’s OK special. I remember that the footage of Surfs Up from Inside Pop amazed me as I’d never heard it. I also recall that there was a lot of footage labeled 1964 and I was noticing how Carls weight varied so much in one year but later realized they misdated a lot of it and some of it was 1965 (like the shindig footage of fun, fun, fun. 'American Band' is still one of my all time favorite films to watch. It was my introduction visually to the group, and it had a profound effect on me. Even when I watch it now, I'm transferred to a time and place that takes me away from my current world and puts me in a safe and enjoyable place. There a very few films that have had that effect on me, but 'La Bamba' and 'Rio Bravo' come to mind.... I needed 'American Band' when I discovered it for rental hire in a video store, it totally changed my life and turned me into this thing I am today.... A fan.

An old interview with Brian from 2005, but boy! is he on fire and really engaged. I love seeing him like this!

Thanks very much for posting.
As I predicted the vocals are improving immensely each concert as they integrate Bolty more and more. He is really kicking the band as well ! Great energy and vocal mix at this show that was not evident in the first month or so of this new line-up. Even the falsetto lead singer (sorry don't know his name) has smoothed his voice out quite a bit and it's working much better.

Does anyone know what this is? I know what it is not. One of the Don Goldberg songs? "Sweet and Bitter" and "Out in the Country" the others?

Whoever uploaded it with the name The Beach Boys is making a false representation on a public forum. I know very little about Don. How it has not been taken down is beyond me.

Just noticed 4 stray tracks on The Beach Boys Youtube channel, quality is average, but they are live tracks from Grand Gala Du Disque, Amsterdam Feb ‘72. 'Heroes', 'Sloop', Surfs Up', 'SDT'. Have these circulated or been heard before? They are new to me... Here's 'Surf's Up'.
edit: Ok, yeap, nothing new here....booted a long time ago.

Anyone happen to know why this outstanding gem and Visions have never been released before? It's really curious, since they're staggeringly beautiful, like the Thank Him (Demo).
I'd say there's no doubt that if they had been included on Surfin' Safari they would have been the best compositions on that LP.

Ha, the owner obviously saw hits from this site, followed it back here and seen that I'd proclaimed his hero 'music's biggest bell-end'
The aforementioned bell-end is of course Noel Gallagher, who 'admits' that after years of attacking Brian and the boys, he now realises what everyone else knew all along. The Beach Boys are f*cking great.
He has consistently accused the BBs of being the worlds most overrated band. If you can think of a better dictionary definition of pot / kettle / black, then I'd love to hear it.
***Amendment*** Pot / Kettle / Black would actually mean the accuser and the accused share the same trait, so I'm actually wrong here. How about the dictionary definition of irony, as in not the Alanis Morissette sense.

All this talk of Noel's confession.
It's times like this I wish I'd taken that medieval torturers job.

Try this for Noels confession... Finally! So he's slagged them for years without listening to them. I never believed that. His mate/hero is Paul Weller, a massive Beach Boys fan. And obviously, Paul McCartney too. I always suspected he was at the wind up to an extent. Still funny to hear him finally admit he likes them. I wonder what the 12 songs are.

Summer in Paradise represents a musical zenith Noel could only dream of. The worst, worst Beach Boys album is still ten times better than anything that buffoon ever wrote plagiarised.
