Al, starting to show repetitive conditions like he seems 'misplaced' or 'scattered' and 'forgetful'.... Songs he has done for decades, and he is all over the place, maybe a lack of rehearsal is showing here... A false start, but a quick save with a joke..... 'Sloop John B'. Our 'boys' are not getting younger sadly.

It would be cool if Blondie joined Al for some shows. I wonder what Blondie’s been up to these days.

Carnie and Wendy both still sound great together.
The Wilsons deserved to do better commercially when it was released. I know that Carnie was angry that she felt it was given very little promotion.

Carnie's daughter, Lola. She performed her grandfather's part on Monday, Without You. Maybe the falsetto, but the other BW parts are sung by a guy - I think Adam.

Carnie's daughter, Lola. She performed her grandfather's part on Monday, Without You. Okay, I can see some family resemblance there - although she could just as easily be one of Brian and Melinda's daughters. A bit of fashion advice for Wendy - don't wear heals when you are sharing the stage with Al. You tower over the man in this video.

Maybe it's like how married couple start to resemble each other.

I was in Lima, Ohio, this past weekend for Al's concert at Lima's new outdoor amphitheater. Art/Space Lima, the city's artist center in the market square downtown, invited me out for a book signing as my book (Becoming the Beach Boys, 19611-1963) alerted the current executive director of Art/Space Lima, a wonderful, indefatigable woman named Sally Windle, to the fact that Lima's favorite son is a founding member of the Beach Boys. So Art/Space Lima hosted an exhibit devoted to Al and his father Donald Charles Jardine, photographer for Lima Locomotive works, the city's economic engine in the 1940s. Al lived in Lima from 1942 to 1949, and I bet his still wonderfully cursive signature can be traced to those early school year penmanship lessons in Lima! From there the family moved to upstate New York where Donald taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The Lima event was sort of a recreation of a trip Al and his family made to Lima in 1991 as part of a local fundraiser the Beach Boys played. Sally said she was was unaware of the 1991 event and my book rekindled the interest. Al stopped by Art/Space Lima for a guided tour with Sally, signed a number of his Sloop John B: A Pirate's Tale children's book, and took photos and signed autographs. Very gracious as always. The concert Friday night included Bobby Figueroa on drums, Ed Carter on bass, Debbie Shair (ex-Heart) on keyboards, Matt Jardine (introduced as "my Brian Wilson"), and Probyn Gregory. I had a good conversation with Al and Bobby at Dayton International Airport on Saturday on my way back home. I'm working on a full article and photographs about the trip for my website (becomingthebeachboys.com).

Intermission at the Clayton Opera House.
Hot news from Al is, if I heard him correctly, after his birthday and/or their show in Chicago, “they” (possibly the Beach Boys) will be performing some songs at the beach where they shot an early album cover (Malibu and Surfin Safari I suppose) for the forthcoming documentary.

If true, this is big news.
Very curious if "they" will be Al and his band...? Will it be Mike, Bruce & Al? How about Brian and David? Very exciting. I hope Jon Bolton is the drummer! He's brought amazing energy. It would be cool if Brian makes an appearance but understandable if he opts out.
Sounds like a fan's dream come true to see the band performing on the beach where they famously had those iconic photoshoots.

What exactly did Al say and what exactly is going on here? Can we get some clarification as to whether the Beach Boys are reuniting which is something that Al had said to me in fact was not going to occur? This is some new development based on the producers of the documentary having convinced them? Any other confirmation from other social media of the other Beach boys? Sorry to seem exasperated but this is very puzzling

Welcome to the real world. Belay that - welcome to the World of The Beach Boys. Thingas are done differently here.

If this transpires, I wonder if it wouldn't be something as simple as just the principles sitting around together jamming. Something similar to the campfire sessions .

And it could be that Al and the Endless Summer Band / Family and Friends have a gig at Paradise Cove next month. Either way, no official announcement yet.
But I'd love to see the reunited Beach Boys hanging out there, singing songs (like we did at the Carl Walks with Billy Hinsche and Jeff Foskett) for the documentary. And please include the whole set for the DVD bonus material!

Well I never particularly expected to see Al with this kind of lineup, so when the chance presented itself, I had to do take it.
Certainly a different experience. Modest venue. None of the hyped sound mix we have become accustomed to at a Mike or Brian show. Raw and simple production but super cool to be able to pick out exactly what Al and others were playing.
Nice to have Bobby F and Ed C on stage. Folks that have pretty much seen it all. We listened to Bobby’s Surf’s Up podcast interview on the ride back to Toronto. Probyn remains a hero for his many years of outstanding musicianship and general kindness. Never seen Debbie before but she was very good and played with an infectious smile. Matt’s Surf’s Up was flawless. Al was introduced as the rock and roll hall of famer that he is. What more needs to be said. No Carnie and Wendy but not sure if there was ever a suggestion that they would be there.
Musically it was a very good show especially once the band warmed up a bit.
A thrill for the night was getting Al to notice my Rhonda t shirt at the end and him tell me how cool it was. I’d have liked to have complimented Matt on his Surf’s Up but a dozen or so people were hanging around the front of the stage so I let it be.
As for Al’s possible revelation yes let us just wait and see, but it does seem apparent that he is at least getting together with Brian next month.
California girls Do it again Catch a wave Hawaii Surfin safari Surfer Girl Don’t worry baby Little deuce coup 409 I get around In my room California saga INTERMISSION Postcard from California Surf’s up Sail on sailor God only knows Sloop John B Wouldn’t it be nice Good vibrations Help me Rhonda Barbara Ann Surfin USA Fun fun fun
