To my mind,"TWOTS" has always had something claustrophobic about it. I just find it a bit of an uncomfortable listen. Anyway, that's my first choice for the chop. Taste is a wonderful thing, I guess. For me, it's one of their best pre-Pet Sounds songs.

"Do You Remember". Yes, but obviously not well enough to want to keep you around.

I like “Do You Remember” enough to have recorded a version at home when I got my first 4 track tape recorder, complete with overdubbing my own voice four or five times. I hate to see that one voted off. I voted for “Surfer Girl.” It’s popular, but I’m tired of it since it’s sung in nearly every concert. I have loved "Surfer Girl" since first hearing it. I never tired of hearing them playing it, even on nights Brian wasn't there. It deserves its spot in the endless set-lists. I'd say one of the songs that made me a fan of The Beach Boys in the first place.

Do You Remember will be quickly forgotten by the tribe, who have voted off Brian and Mike's ditty of love honouring the songwriting duo's influences.
New round imminent!!!

We're back for another delightful round of eliminating another Love song from the (bulk of the) pre Pet Sounds vintage years - we need to get all tribes down to 7, and those Romantic fellas just had way too many songs about amore - perhaps they should have changed their name to The Lover Boys, eye-lid flutter, eye-lid flutter.
I'm offing Wendy, for reasons stated last couple of rounds. VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, the love songs round that includes Odes to Infidelity (or just plain old getting around)!

H'mm. "Wendy" is getting a lot of stick in this thread. Inexplicably, I feel -- there's a genius intro, gorgeous harmonies, a cool instrumental break... Regrettably, it does seem to have gone wrong with the one Wendy I know.

Voting for FFF again, I don't think it is a Love song.

"Wendy" - I love ya. Voting for you in hopes of saving a girl I love even more, the one from New York City. She's so young and stylish as she swishes and swirls down Fifth Avenue.

Wendy joins the Girls On The Beach in departing, both with votes deadlocked!
In the great tradition of moving forward, they're both out!
Be back soon for the first of the individual tribe whittlings with Tribe California lifestyle leading the way!

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey time to vote out a member of Tribe Californ-iii-aay.
It may be Autumn for you Northern Hemisphere jack-asses perhaps, but down here the sun is starting to shine (every 2nd or 3rd day) and the pretty flowers are-a blossoming with Spring slowly upon us!
I'm giving Summer Means New Love the tap, it's a bit of a shmaltz-up I find and not as much of an indicator to Pet Sounds as Let Him Run Wild/California Girls, but at least here it's not as much the screw-pooch as it's 50 years later appearance with lyrics and name change to Somewhere Quiet included on Brian's No Pier Pressure solo album.

Ah, the love songs round that includes Odes to Infidelity (or just plain old getting around)! John, I‘m still flummoxed by your original post when you had a go at Girls On The Beach. But I think I might have spotted something in this round that maybe pinpoints what you’re bangin’ on about. In 1965, and this is thanks to the invaluable Bellagio, our boys recorded Salt Lake City on March 30th, followed on April 6th with a session for California Girls. In the former Mike declared that those City girls were the cutest in the western states, yet barely a week later he was telling everyone that Cal girls were in fact the cutest in the world. So, Mike either had an over-active libido or a tenuous grasp on local geography. Probably both. Whatever, I‘m going where one brave soul has already gone before and handing my vote to In My Room. If only because it doesn’t fit the Back to Cali Lifestyle of this round

As for your penultimate sentence: I wouldn't consider myself a brave soul by any stretch of the imagination, just my claustrophobia playing up again. Nice to have some company though.

If only because it doesn’t fit the Back to Cali Lifestyle of this round Ah, but I was speaking in the context of the Love Songs round, and now we're talkin' Back to Cali… I think songs in which the narrator is leering at multiple girls on a beach aren't "love songs', they're "lust songs". Hence my infidelity quip. Agree with your reasoning on In My Room though, it's neither a love song nor a Cali lifestyle songs. (If it had to be either then maybe a teenage boy retreating to his room could be a romantic ode to Madam Palm… but probably not!

British citizens, please pay attention: the tribes are Surfing for Surf related songs, Cars for Car related songs, Love songs (formerly "Girls" but that's not very woke, is it) for songs related to chicks - and anything else that doesn't explicitly fit in one of those tribes, goes into the catch-all lifestyle tribe.
Without this conveniently named fourth tribe, we'd have myriad tribes with one 1 song making the relevant voting a bit anti-climactic (eg, next up we're voting out your least favourite song in the School Tribe, the list is Be True To Your School)
Additionally, re the lifestyle thing, I'm led to believe that Brian Wilson had a room in an apartment when he lived a certain lifestyle, the apartment was located in California. Uh-kay?
Keep calm and carry on voting!

I like the idea the idea of smaller polls for songs about more specific subjects, such as schools. 😏 We could also have Songs about late night talk show hosts. Songs about meditation. Songs about amusement parks. Songs about country air, farms, fields, structures, fairs, and daughters. Songs about California. Songs about worms and columnated ruins. Songs about marriage. Songs about dancing. Songs about environmental concerns. Songs about music. Songs about health food. Songs about boats.

In My Room is not a love song - I agree, but why are instrumentals included in the group? I think a lot of them are dreamy. Be True is not a love song, either and I love that song. So much for “love.”
