I'll go Rieley. I don't think he or Parks are great lyricists, but Jack's name also isn't on Surf's Up. Points off for Jack's resume falsehoods and his division of the band into factions. You can't say the Parks is disingenuous - what you see is what you get and he is brilliant in his own right - just maybe not a good permanent fixture in this kind of band. And Parks is somewhat of a lyrical lyricist. He makes no bones about it. I don't like that he could not explain his thought process when he is working for hire. You do owe your boss/es at least your rationale behind your thinking and writing. I'd take Van Dyke over Jack any day. And, he can act. I do love The Waltz! He nailed that era perfectly - painting that picture like de Vinci. But, I was surprised Gregg was voted off so soon - he was good support for Dennis.

Gary Usher and Jack Rieley tie with 4 votes each.
Given we are at the final four I am tempted to go to a runoff between these two to see who is the preferred

Ok, the tiebreaker poll is up. Vote for who you want to see eliminated (i.e., your LEAST favorite)

Ed, I like your Roger Moore (Beau Maverick) pic. He was one of my fav actors growing up, especially as Simon Templar, in The Saint.

I'm voting for Mr. Acid Alliteration. I think Usher and Asher were better fits.

Easy vote for Parks. Asher penned the lyrics to Pet Sounds, and the lyrics actually make sense.

Apologies, I meant to hide the vote tally like in previous rounds. To the two who already voted, please make your mark again! My fault

So, we are left with basically two one-album collaborators for a band that made 29 studio albums. Call me unsurprised.

Honorable Mention to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jon Bon Jovi who I believe wrote about eight words on Summer's Gone.

I am pretty torn on this one. I think VDP is the best lyricist The Beach Boys ever had. But his style really only would have worked on Smile. It’s very difficult to imagine PS with the VDP style of rhythmic wordplay
Asher certainly had his work cut out for him. Imagine Beethoven asking you to write words for one of his concertos. Hell of a task, but he rose to it. The fact that the lyrics don’t detract from the music is a noteworthy accomplishment. It would be interesting to consider what the lyrics might look like had Love or someone else been tasked with it. Love did a terrific job on the back half of Today!
With all this considered I am giving my vote to eliminate Asher. I think VDP brought more to Smile than Asher brought to Pet Sounds. So in that way I see VDP as the superior ‘collaborator’.
But that is not to say I would desire 20+ albums of VDP lyrics. I wouldn’t want that at all. I just think for the specific project of Smile he brought a lot of creativity and ingenuity that made him a phenomenal collaborator with the band.
