I can understand if there were fans who didn't care too much about this docu, as the Beach Boys aren't a part of it and are only mentioned once. But just to see Jack Rieley move around, talk, sing (sort of), and interact in 1974, just 2 years after the Holland-saga, makes it unique. As far as I know we haven't seen any movies with Jack during the BB-era of 1970-73, let alone in colour. I'd be very surprised if anyone in the room didn't appreciate that brief documentary, for just those reasons. For me, it was one of the high points of the entire event -- a magical glimpse into a hitherto unglimpsed past. And the work involved in making it acceptable viewing for the Lutterworth gathering was a true labour of love. Of course everyone appreciated it!

Glad that you were the lucky buyer of the Western Justice album. I had tipped my friend on bringing a copy along, just in case the docu would make the fans interested in hearing it. Apparently it worked! You missed the chance though to buy a Dutch promotional LP with the single version of Cry Child Cry (which I had for sale) .
Anyway, enjoy the album! Give it a few listens; it ain't bad at all (apart from the one-but-last track 'Frogs' perhaps). Have to agree - bar that it's a fascinating album, notably the title track and "America".

Sean Macreavy's YouTube blurb:
Beach Boys "In My Room" harmony workshop at The Final Wave, Lutterworth with Sean and Ric
A bit of fun reliving the real fun and pleasure of hearing these lovely old friends picking their Brian, Carl, Dennis and Mike parts for a hastily-concocted harmony workshop rendition of the Beach Boys' In My Room at The Final Wave in Lutterworth last weekend. This was the final two-minute fruit of our endeavours – well done, folks!
It was such a great event, and this was one of the highlights for RIC NEALE and me! Please feel free to tag a mate or two. 😁
(*The masterstroke was to capture the legendary Mr Gudge himself having a go... there he is, hiding in the far right-hand corner! 😮😄 [under the h of workshop--jk])
With thanks to KJ for alerting me to it.

Sean posted this the following morning: www.threads.net/seanmacreavy/post/C6BD0SPslRoThe band in the picture is, I believe, Zander & Co aka "The Golden Penetrators"! I also found this. Sean and Ric Neale perform "Guess I'm Dumb" and "Goin' South". They also did a fantastic version of "Leaving This Town", the Boys' most underrated song according to Ric, but the recording quality was below par -- apparently there was too much background chat from "Gudge Corner"! Darn shame -- it really was good!

Sean was there and performed with his friend. They did an awesome rendition of Leaving This Town.I thought it might have been them but I wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming! It was certainly awesome. "Their most underrated song" -- too true. If anyone else videoed "Leaving This Town", please, please upload it, background chat and all. It would be mightily appreciated.

It was a great day and evening. Wonderful to meet up with some old friends, barnsy , Ken, and a host of others. The Dutch film was great (though looked a little speeded up to me) so went and bought Western Justice. Need to find a quiet moment to enjoy the whole concept. As others said lots of great performances: Sean and Ric; Nelson and Scott; Alan Carvell (I wanted to find my son's skateboard) and the GTOs, Tom Wardle, Dan McGeever, Zander and co, and many others - clips already abound and soon there will be official (?) ones from the day. Looking forward to David Leaf's new book and the irrepressible Ed Roach's book. The love especially for Probyn Gregory was moving, as was the applause for Brian's message and lovely to have a short clip of Brian from Darian (in Arizona). Others deserving of a mention, Sean for all his hard work. Roy G for being there and getting a shout out from David Leaf. and Val for organising the whole thing. Its great the online community but always best to meet in person. You can't beat that.
I was the guy that provided the Western Justice Dec. 1974 docu. I don't have the impression it was sped up. The commentator's voice did sound a bit high (but I think that's how he talked actually). The only thing I did to improve the docu, was to amplify the sound (it was really low). And add subtitles, so everyone in the hall understood what was said (even Jack R. occasionally talked Dutch!).

And finally: indeed a huge compliment is in order for Val, Marc, and Sean for organizing this event and running the whole program smoothly.
Thanks for being there and bringing the film. Great to hear Jack Rieley's voice and to see him. Also hadn't realised that the great John Leckie (producer for Magazine, Stone Roses etc) was the engineer on the LP. the documentary convinced me to get the LP. But it did look slightly sped up to me. But that may have been the original film anyway.

I would love to see this Jack Rieley documentary! Is it posted anywhere? (PS -- Make sure you tag it with "Jack Rieley, the liar!") (Sorry, that was a throwback to another thread.)
