Furia (2021), an eight-part cliff-hanger of a TV series, is a must-see. I apologize for choosing the Norwegian-spoken original of the trailer, but this is the version we saw, with Dutch subtitles, on Belgian TV and I can't face the thought of hearing overdubbed English voices (there are English-spoken passages in the original). It's standard practice in NL and Belgium to respectfully leave the original dialogue in place and add subtitles: www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/furia

Foundation - Issac Asimov Thanks for the heads-up on this, I wasn't aware of it. I've read all the books so will be interested to see how it's been adapted (hopefully better than was done for His Dark Materials for example). Having watched most of the episodes I've come back to say that it bears as much resemblance to the book as the film Cool Runnings does to the real Jamaican bobsled team, that is to say, almost nothing! Or it's a little how I see the Smile versions of Wind Chimes and Wonderful compared to the Smiley Smile versions, each to be enjoyed (or not) as virtually separate entities.

So my girlfriend and I finished working our way through the Criterion BBS: America Lost and Found blu-ray box last night, and I can't recommend this thing enough. It contains seven films recorded under the auspices of BBS (Bob Rafelson, Bert Schneider & Steve Baulmer) in the late 60s-early 70s: Head, Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, The Last Picture Show, A Safe Place, The King of Marvin Gardens and Drive He Said. Of the seven, only Drive He Said is anything less than stellar, and is still worth a watch as Jack Nicholson's directorial debut. Assembled with Criterion's usual care, this deluxe package is an incredible value for $62.49 US. www.amazon.com/America-Lost-Found-Criterion-Collection/dp/B003ZYU3SC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=bbs+america+lost+and+found&qid=1628373679&sprefix=bbs+americ&sr=8-1I love that box set and the New Hollywood era! Five Easy Pieces and The Last Picture Show are in my opinion both flat-out masterpieces whilst A Safe Place is the worst kind of self-indulgent, pretentious drivel I’ve ever come across — and I normally enjoy pretentious drivel! That stinker aside it’s a lovely set with loads of interesting extras. During the last weeks I’ve watched (or rewatched): — Manson: Music From An Unsound Mind (pretty good, watched it mainly for the Dennis/Beach Boys content, my gf was more interested in the Family) — One A.M. (the 1916 Chaplin short, loved this one. Sometimes all you need is a bit of dumb slapstick) — Brewster McCloud (a rewatch, wasn’t as good or fun as I remembered, kind of goes nowhere and it’s sort of a mess but Shelley Duvall is great and I love seeing a sweaty Bud Cort in tiny underpants. Altman is a bit hit or miss for me) — Johnny Guitar (absolutely loved this classic, laughs, drama, action, romance, this film had it all!) — Morocco (the von Sternberg flick, good one) — Pandora’s Box (an unintentional rewatch as I forst saw this in 2017 but remembered almost nothing about it! Shame on me… I naturally love Louise Brooks and I know this is considered an all-time classic but I still prefer Diary Of A Lost Girl and Beggars Of Life. That being said, this is definitely an amazing film) — Muppets Haunted Mansion (meh…)

Tonight it was Jane Campion's stunning The Power of the Dog (2021). Everything about this film is extraordinary: the plot, the acting (particularly that of Benedict Cumberbatch), the landscape and the music (by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_the_Dog_(film)

This movie had the best ending of any movie I have seen since the Sixth Sense! Loved it! There are few recent films I would want to see again but this is definitely one. And this time... in the cinema on a decent-sized screen! The cinematography was indeed gorgeous and would be great to see in a theater. I have not seen a movie in a theater in over two years! I just haven't had the desire to - AND we have a pretty nice set up at home and a 10 foot screen that we can use outside when the weather is nice. The soundbar hooks up to the projector too - so we get great sound.

My backyard movie setup. Why go to the theater?

After Life was highly recommended to us by our daughter. Tear-jerking and gut-bustingly funny by turns (and sometimes simultaneously), it's an absolute must-watch. Great choice of music too… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Life_(TV_series)

The last thing we watched on holiday was Scorsese's The Irishman and ye gods was that a long sit -- three and a half hours! That said, it was well worth it -- needless to say, phenomenal acting from De Niro, Pesci and Pacino. And some very funny moments among the many gruesome ones (read: one contract killing after another). Great music including original stuff by Robbie Robertson, formerly of The Band. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Irishman

Last night we watched the "Classic Albums" take on The Mothers of Invention's 1966 debut album Freak Out!
This excerpt features the guitarist Elliot Ingber, best known to Beefheart fans as Winged Eel Fingerling. He was with Beefheart and the Magic Band when I saw them perform in London's Albert Hall in 1972. What a gig!

Been watching the following:
Stranger Things Cobra Kai The Boys
But mostly for me I watch random YouTube videos that cover everything about music, movies, television and video games. And oddball pop culture stuff.
