We have all seen that 10000 times. Heavens that can't be news of any kind whatsoever. I hope not, I don't care at all about that

I’m with the professor on this one. No news can be really BIG unless it’s some type of reunion. A box set would be an anti-climax.

I just don’t see a reunion being announced now in the middle of the pandemic. The world is focused in so many other places right now and the timing for a year down the road seems off.
I’m still keeping optimistic for the box and that it was not referring to the Ed Sullivan show release.

Perhaps they're thinking of undertaking one of those Live from their individual living room good will gesture type "reunions", ala a few other bands and the casts of various TV shows. Anyway, box please!

They are coming to do a lockdown special concert in my living room. Y’all can come but only if you keep two meters apart.

How about a (we love the) drive-in movie theater show like Garth Brooks is doing?

Yeah, Al, Bruce, and ESQ have spilled the beans on the set, but the big announcement could be Brother/Capitol properly announcing/beginning promotion for the set. Maybe they'll finally get rid of the RPO facebook/twitter banners after only two years lol

Howie Edelson posted this on his FB page the other day, along with a 2016 clip of BW, Al, Blondie and Billy H shot from the back of the stage, behind Nelson Bragg's position on percussion:
"Can't wait to see everyone back safely on the road."
Now, he might have meant "can't wait to see the Brian Wilson band back on the road", of course, but given the timing – just two days after the ESQ post – and his use of the word "everyone" rather than "Brian, Blondie and Al" makes me wonder…
So… just speculating… but maybe the announcement is that Nelson's back in the band! I hope so – he was a cool, good soul and a creative force.

I just checked it out, and it's from June 12, 2016, reposted June 12, 2020 (last Friday). So it seems it's just one of those "anniversaries" of an event that FB reminds of us, in case we want to repost. I'm sure Howie, like the rest of us, is longing for the days of good old outdoor concerts (or indoor ones, for that matter).

"Very" soon was a bit misleading!
I hope it's an announcement that they've decided to release every discrete multi-track track for the entire catalog for a reasonable fee. It isn't, but would that it were. Finally, I could rest my weary bones.

Sounds cool, but a website is not quite on my dream list for ‘big news’

Sounds cool, but a website is not quite on my dream list for ‘big news’ Hah, you know, it's funny, I was partly hired for the purpose of working on that site back in 2006... But it just never quite was in the cards. I got as far as writing up a biography of the band, but things didn't progress. It was a great idea, and it would be huge news actually, because the plan was to make a lot of unreleased music available through that site. But I think its moment has long since passed.

Your idea brought me to this page - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musical_works_released_in_a_stem_formatwhich has a cool list of songs/albums released in stem format. But as far as I know, no artist has released it for their entire catalgoue, have they? I'm not particularly knowedgable about the industry but i would have to imagine that would be pretty revolutionary. It could could also lead to an infinite number of songs with vocal samples, instrument samples, etc. Can't imagine seeing it in my lifetime but perhaps one day an artist will give it a try.

Well, it'd sure be a lot of work for Mark! I think that artists (and maybe enlightened record labels) are starting to realise that there is some sort of value in releasing stems or discrete multis. The way I see it, it's a way to very publicly and transparently show people the craft that different artists have brought to record production. In the case of Beach Boys, it would be a way for them to say "look how good our stuff really is, even at the atomic level." But beyond that, there is also commercial value to it. I've thought for a while now that the only way to sell Pet Sounds again for the 60th would be to put out the discrete multis for that. I'm sure enough people would spend money on that to make it a hook to get people buying Pet Sounds material yet again.

I remember reading, back in the early '90s, that Todd Rundgren was pushing for an interactive CD Rom release of the SMiLE sessions, so that folks could assemble their own version in full, official sound quality. Not sure if he meant, or if it was even possible back then, to do that to the level of having individual stems that could be mixed at will by the user. But it was an interesting idea.

The big announcement will of course be the long awaited 4 CD Mike Love boxset. Featuring First Love, Country Love, Make Love Not War, and a whole disc of rare bonus tracks (Be True To Your Bud!)!

Regarding the SMiLE cd rom idea.....Does anybody remember the Project SMiLE Cd Rom? It was so cool at the time. Yep! Came out in 2001. Over ten hours of music put together by fans. Probably the most complete mixes of all the songs recorded for Smile and comprehensive list of fragments up to that point. Fantastic! Do you also remember these Smile boots? endlessharmony.boards.net/thread/19/beach-boys-bootlegs-smile?page=1
