I've studied Brian's beard and the Easter Seals/Midnight Special 1979 period is the pinnacle of Brian Wilson "beardom". Pretty impressive during the Going Platinum period but the mustache was not as full as that ES/MS period. It was pretty much all downhill from here when you get to the 1981 Queen Mary period when Brian would shave down the cheeks and really trim the mustache. If you have any other questions about Brian's beard please ask: it'll make me feel like I haven't completely wasted my life. A sentence beginning with the words ”I've studied Brian's beard” is undeniable proof that the rest of the post is going to be the best ever written on this forum. I’m glad I’m among friends and not alone in my interest in Brian’s facial hair and how it changed througout the years. He just looked plain cool during that ES/MS period. It’s a shame he didn’t let it grow even longer because the tidy 1981 Queen Mary style was definitely a move in the wrong direction, culminating in the mid 80s ’dad’ look. I suddenly feel an urge for a ”Brian beardography” photo collage… Anyone? Thank you, i guess my life hasn't been a total waste after all. The first time we see Brian with a beard is 1967, the back of the Wild Honey cover which for some reason I don't count, it seemed to have been very short lived. Cut to 1974 the Caribou sessions and a photo of Brian at the piano with Mike standing next to him which shows up in Crawdaddy magazine and then the 1975 gatefold of Spirit of America another shot from Caribou. Now we're off to the races: from 1974-1980 Brian is in various stages of beardom. One of the things he does, at least until the release party for Love You is buzz his cheeks down and trim the mustache, which I never understood because he grows a tremendous beard. If you look at Brian in '64 he really doesn't look like a guy with a heavy beard so I was surprised in '74 when he shows up with a manly beard. Anyway , in '77 at the Love You party he has a nice full beard and mustache. No more buzzing down the cheeks. Like Ian Rusten I'll rest right now and pick it up later. This is great fun for me.

Usually when he's in public posing next to someone else..... very ill at ease.

I hope the experts here will take the beardology thing back a generation. Which side of the family provided the Wilson brothers with their propensity for fabulous facial hair--the Wilsons or the Korthofs? I don't suppose that there are any pictures of Murry with a beard, are there??

It’s funny how mature Carl looked-when he was only 24 (1971) he already looked like a much older guy

Did Al miss another photo shoot? At least it wasn't for an album cover.

What's the location of this shot? Based on Brian's young (teenaged) age - obvious from his apparent swimmer's haircut - it's pre-band vintage. Yet this looks more like a traditional "living room" than the Wilson family's music den, beings as that was converted from a garage...

This was something I copied down around 2004 or so. Someone was asking what was enough different versions of Pet Sounds. A collector from Germany posted the following photo. And this is almost 20 years ago.

I've always loved this photo. It raises a number of fascinating questions. What is with the cat? And the goggles? Does anyone have a hi-res version of it please (or at least a higher-res version than this)?

Great pic of Ricky, Blondie and Carl, either before or after a show. I'd never seen this before until yesterday when it popped up on social media. Attachments:

I've just looked and, yes, you're quite right. It's been a while since I listened to In Concert...

I immediately assumed it was the music room – Brian looks to be playing a keyboard (upright piano?), and there’s a second (organ) in the foreground. Looks like a hard, uncarpeted floor… like a cheaply converted garage, maybe? And what decor there is looks like an afterthought.

This photo was taken at the Wilson house in the music room. I THINK it was 1959.
Here is an enlargement of that photo. Notice that one of the legs of the piano stool is about to collapse.
