This is one of my favorite photos of Carl: I can't remember exactly but it was from a calendar from the Carl Wilson Foundation - thanks to Gina Wilson & Justyn Wilson (or was it Jonah?) Luckily, a few months ago I decided to keep it somewhere safe because in the meantime: 1 The Facebook page that originally posted it no longer exists 2 PSF (where I had posted the photo) no longer exists 3 My hard drive no longer exists

The way Bruce's blue shorts look in that picture bothers me. It took me forever to figure out that the blue behind Carl was actually Bruce's shorts. The waist line is just so weird and not-quite-right looking. Then I finally saw Bruce's knee poking out from behind Carl's left shoulder. For ages that blue looked like the back of Carl's shirt was blowing up in the wind, LOL.

They let Bruce on the boat but NOT in the final shot. And, they couldn't wait a day (or two?) for Al to recover from...a cold!

Yeah, Bruce was forbidden from appearing on front covers of Beach Boys albums and singles at the time due to his contract with CBS (which evidently expired by the time of Friends). Same story with Pet Sounds: Bruce was at the photo shoot and appears in the outtakes, just not the front album cover (he is on the back cover...no problem there - and that's probably why he was invited to the photo shoots in the first place - potential material for the back covers). Agree that it was a shame they couldn't wait for Al's recovery! Such a thing would be unthinkable nowadays. Reminds me of how they went ahead with the Warner Brothers studio lot inner spread photo shoot for Sunflower without Mike! Wonder if that front cover, with Mike, was already "in the can" at the time?

I think the ambrosia picture is 1974-as Ricky is there’s Yeah, I noticed that, too. I actually found the photo (and date) on an Ambrosia website. The photo is Ambrosia promoting their 1975 tour. If Ricky didn't perform with The Beach Boys in 1975, was his last Beach Boys' show on New Year's Rockin' Eve, broadcast on 12/31/74?
EDIT: I revisited the photo and noticed that they - including Ricky - are holding an album. I think the album is Ambrosia's first album, recorded in 1974 but released in February 1975. So, that adds even more to the mystery. Maybe those were advanced pressings and the photo is late 1974, or, maybe it is early 1975? I love this stuff!

That appears to be a restraint with a contract. But if you look at Carl's hands - it looks as though he is holding on for dear life with each hand on a stay.

Wasn't Bruce's first album cover photos on the back of Wild Honey? That was December 1967.

He might be somewhere inside or on the back of Party!, too - I can't remember (but he's definitely in that great group living room party shot that exists as an outtake). He just couldn't be on the front cover, apparently until '68.

I think Ricky left after the September 8 show and then filled again for Dennis at the tv taping

By the way a recent Facebook post made Ricky’s departure sound like a much more negative event then I thought but I’ll say no more

Anyone know what that was for? Looks like mid to late 1968 or early 1969. The suits look more relaxed than the earlier white suits - no necktie - but a neckerchief.

I wanna take this opportunity right now to thank our beloved Brian for writing all of that beautiful music and making this evening possible. Let's hear it for Brian Wilson!
