Can we talk about gaps in the photo record or would that be better for another thread?
In particular, I am continually and eternally FLABBERGASTED by how few photos there are of the boys in the studio in the 60s and 70s. Surely there are more photos, but we are limited to the same old handful.
Now is the time for people to go through their old albums so if you know somebody who might have something like this, bug them.
Also, there's the well known photos of Brian in glasses at Gold Star. I suspect there are more from that series but they've not been published. Supposedly they are supplied and licensed from Capitol. I suspect it is the first Good Vibration session, but I'd gladly amputate a leg to see more.

Photos I would like to see:
- The sandbox (apparently never been taken) - More SMiLE sessions pictures, not the same well known pics - 1969 sessions, at Brian's home studio - More Steve Desper pictures on the board - Caribou ranch sessions photos - Some early 80s Brian & Dennis sessions together... - The last known Dennis picture or something from november/december

No, Julia and I were just regular tourists on holiday from the UK, and as surprised as anyone that the guys were there. Our photos with Carl from that day are on page 9 of this thread.

Both photo and ticket are in (the same) private hands.

And I've heard that Marilyn does indeed have some pictures of the piano in the sandbox, they've just never been shown.

Brian is also wearing glasses in the photos from the "Sloop John B." vocal session at Western in December '65. I would guess, then, that the photos of him wearing glasses at Gold Star are from shortly thereafter - meaning, probably "Wouldn't It Be Nice" in January, "Good Vibrations #1" or "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" in February, or possibly "Good Vibrations #2" in April.

When asked, many years later, he said they were just for a joke. That said...
BTW, the date given is wrong: it should be December 3rd 1988.

Thanks, Andrew - I forgot that.

To ID the glasses/gold star session: Steve Douglas was there. This fellow was there (musician on Brian's right): And this fellow was there (sorry it's in the crack of the book): INCIDENTALLY I THINK IT'S JACK NIMITZ

That was the only time he wore them?

He wore them for two sessions that we have the selection of photos from - the instrumental tracking session from Gold Star that I suspect is GV, and the earlier vocal session at Western that is likely Sloop John B.

Just remembered that the first "Good Vibrations" session was engineered by Cal Harris rather than Larry. IIRC Larry is seen next to the glasses-wearing Brian in those Gold Star control room shots...

I don't recall ever seeing a photo of the engineer at the session in question?

Which book are those photos from, don’t think I have that one. Is that the 50th anniversary pet sounds book?

Sure but it's so nebulous as to be virtually meaningless.

Sure but it's so nebulous as to be virtually meaningless. When the film was released for a screening in a small theater close to me - I jumped to see it. And, even now, I won't forget how that sound filled the theater, in a way that a video never can in your home. It is the kind of sound that swallows you whole. My take on term "wrecking" was that these new guys (girls) were not the suit jacket and tie generation who had been the hallmark of the industry. In effect they seemed to "wreck" that sort of inflexible, stereotyped image. Whether it is all 100% accurate - I don't care - but just that it is a great nod to those who operated behind the scenes to roll out all that magnificent music of that generation. And, it was a great nod to their work. I think the point is to get the "gist" of how the music industry worked and that there were a ton of unsung heroes involved in getting that sound to their millions of fans. Ya - it is nebulous - but I would not think of it in any other way. "Hard to define - but you know it when you see it." (Justice Potter Stewart - 1964)
