Granted it was only the first verse, but that's the best I've heard him since before the pandemic. And, I agree. Last fall I saw him, and it was post-pandemic, I thought he sounded great. He must be taking very good care of his voice.

He had a vocal coach during time off the road.

If Brian does retire, I can easily imagine a “Brian Wilson Band: Featuring Al Jardine” show rolling along unabated. I’m sure people would turn up. I would. Honestly, that would be the best option at this point. "The Songs of Brian Wilson" tour with Al, Blondie, and Matt, with Darian as musical director and overall band leader.

Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to the Alpharetta show last night (logistics problems), so I am very grateful for the videos that are surfacing from this show. Blondie really rips it on "Sail on Sailor":

I can't believe it's me saying so, the poor ol' boy is exhausted...
I don't know how anyone could disagree, but it's Brian, so someone will. The old adage that Father Time is undefeated applies. Imagine 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago that Brian Wilson would still be performing at 80. That is amazing. But there comes a time to call it a day . . .

He was amazing in Kansas City! I was beyond thrilled! I’d love to see a Blondie Chaplin solo tour! Such energy and talent!

Yeah it's really hard to watch him out there at this point more than ever before. Even when taking into consideration his lifelong health issues, he's still in considerably worse shape at his age than his peers such as Mike, Bruce and Al. Hell, Paul McCartney is a day and some change older than him and he is in terrific shape; looking and sounding at least ten years younger and still having an abundance of energy. At least Al, Blondie and the rest of the band continue to deliver the goods.

I’m thinking about attending the Brian Wilson concert next week.
Just took a quick look at Chicago’s Setlist for this tour and it seems that they have not performed Wishing You We’re Here for weeks now. It’s a shame, but I’m glad they did perform it at least once on this tour, and that someone was able to capture it on a YouTube video.
So….
The downside is that I was hoping to see that particular song, with at least Al and other members of the BWB helping out. Probably not gonna happen now.
But… the upside (as an old guy) is that I guess now I can probably duck out after Brian’s opening act without missing any additional Beach Boy content.

It’s truly painful having to watch Al just standing there witnessing this. Give the man every damn lead vocal!!!

Yikes!
I keep hearing from a pretty reliable source that Brian is loose & having fun backstage with his band & that it’s only when he makes his way to the stage that he freezes up.
Still, that video is alarming. If BW really is having fun on this tour, he should really start saving some of those backstage good vibes for the paying customers.
Note: then again… I’m still thinking of going next week. (Yeah, I might have a problem, lol.)

We're told Brian wants to tour: granted, when we're told by his publicist, we're entitled to raise an eyebrow and say "yeah, sure...". Fact is, yes, Brian wants to tour and enjoys almost everything about touring. Gets him out of the house, he's surrounded by friends and he's waited on hand and foot - what's not to love ? So what doesn't he like about touring ? As the man himself has said on several occaisions, going back to 2005 (I believe), he loves everything about touring... except performing.

Performance wise on a positive note, Matt Jardine is killing it! I never really like his early vocals with the group, but the guy has really got his stuff together and
has become a highlight and almost a spotlight of the show. Some of these songs are not easy to sing, let alone every other night, and then by someone Brian or Alan's age. Matt is by no means 'taking over', as he gives Brian the room if he 'wants' to sing, but then slides in if required. They are making the most of a delicate situation.

Yeah, Matt obviously has a lot of experience singing those songs with Al and he must be vocally the most important person on stage right now.
I think he does a great job of singing the leads and showing concern for Brian as shown in this video:

This is very distressing and downright painful to watch. Look closely at the portion where there is an extreme close up of Brian. There is something very wrong with Brian. He looks to be in either a lot of pain, or maybe even fighting off the voices. I'll catch hell for this elsewhere, but fuck it...it needs to be said. It's getting difficult to not get angry or even not to lose respect for everybody in the group just going along with everything when something is very obviously wrong.

If Brian insists he wants to tour, you have to go along with it. Who's going to tell him "no, enough" - Melinda ? The band are between a rock and a hard place.

When is the last time we had any sort of interview with Brian unaccompanied (ie not the one with Brent Wilson). I do feel something is wrong here.

You won't catch any hell from me. I've been saying this for some time now, and they sure don't take that well on the other board. Oh sure, Brian SAYS he wants to tour, because he's been trained to say the things that don't upset anyone. I know he was strong enough to stand up to his father when he was young; I don't believe I ever heard of Brian saying 'no' to Landy's face. The pattern was formed long ago, and it continues today.

I don't buy into that. I just think its a case of somebody wanting or insisting he wants to do something that is now causing more harm than good, both physically and mentally, and not being able to see it fully and say "Ok, I'm done".

Chicago posted some pictures of them presenting Brian with a cake for his 80th birthday and all the FB comments pointed to how "checked out" he looked. So no clue what the truth is about him at this point.

I saw Brian and band with Chicago on Friday night in Charlotte, NC. Chicago was in absolute top form; I was blown away by their energy and performance, but I was actually there to see Brian. I admire the fact that he is still out there, performing, but watching him was really, really sad. He was so totally disengaged. He'd start a song, sing a few lines, and then fade out. The band expertly picked up the slack, and those other guys are friggin' talented, BUT... this was supposed to be a BRIAN WILSON concert. It was not. He was barely there. He sat absolutely still at the piano and looked so awkward and uncomfortable, and the few lines he sang were off-key and mumbled. At the end of the show, as he was taken off stage - using a walker with a person on each side to help him - I honestly cried. I felt so sad. I was sad for him because of the condition he is in, and I was sad for me - as a lifelong Beach Boys and Brian fan - thinking to myself "This was probably my last time seeing him." I just can't imagine that he can keep doing this much longer, and truly, I no longer think he should. He was there, but he wasn't. It was heartbreaking.
As a fan, I hate, hate, hate, HATE saying these things, and I have tried hard not to say or even think them. When I saw Brian three years ago, he was also disengaged, but he was about 75% moreso then than this time around. Sad.
I wish Brian would get off the road and stay at home and concentrate on creating some new music. That would be a gift to the fans.
And lastly, let me say "Thank God for Brian's band... Al, Blondie, Matt, all the other guys...." THEY ARE FANTASTIC!

Any footage of him anywhere else and he seems happy and engaged and in good humor. I think it’s just the moment he’s onstage, the voices and the stagefright take over and it’s absolutely crippling.

Even if he did, there would be some obstacle preventing him from getting what he wants to the public. The powers that be just want remakes. The next album will probably be "Brian Wilson Sings the Beach Boys Hits Acapella".
