New version of Summertime Blues?
(BTW, Mike does sound rejuvenated in recent clips. Reminds me of his vocal rebirth of 10 years ago or so.)

Great great show!! I have to say that Christian Love voice is pretty good! Surfer Girl was very emotional, every time I listen live this song it reminds me to the Knebworth version with Dennis close ups... I don’t know why... Andrew I looked for you in the corridors but I didn't find you 😬

It was rather wonderful, wasn't it? One of those shows where everyone is just a little bit better than normal (and they're normally pretty great). Brian E is astounding on falsetto (I'd not heard him sing the falsetto leads much before, that had been Foskett at all the previous shows where I'd seen him), Scott surpassed himself with the horn arrangements and was playing quite a few extra little fills that worked well (like a bluesy little lick at the end of Surfin' USA), Bruce was in the best voice I've heard him (he held that high note at the end of "Disney Girls" for what seemed like half an hour) and while I've been critical of Christian in the past for seeming bored, he really wasn't here -- I don't know whether it's because they're giving him the more interesting songs to sing now or just that having a break from the band for five years has made it seem fresher to him, but he was very much on form last night. Also, I'm far more interested in Mike's new album now. Rockaway Beach made it seem like the songs were just going to be retreads, not much more interesting than the Radio Shack tapes or NASCAR CD. But "California Sun" is subtly rearranged compared to the original -- it has a nice 50s R&B feel, very Dave Bartholomew or Johnny Otis, while "Here Comes The Sun" is totally reworked as a bossa nova. Off to see them again tonight, hoping it's anything like as good.

Oh, also, while "All I Wanna Do" was on the setlist, they didn't actually play that one, which is a bit of a shame.

I thought Mike sounded very strong most of the time, only a little shaky on Kiss Me Baby.
Highlights for me were It’s Ok, Hearts (though I wish they’d sing it a little slower) and finally seeing Christian Love who does have a good voice along with the family connection which does add extra weight for me. Also really pleased they did Til I Die because when they did it in May 2015 some fuckwits ruined it for me talking, laughing and pouring champagne for themselves during the whole thing 🙈🤣
I thought the second set was stronger than the first, might just be me but first set didn’t feel fully tight.
I love Brian E on most songs but dare I say it Jeff’s absence wasn’t entirely unnoticed.
There was a political moment where Mike implied an American politician (AOC?) wanted to ban air travel which then led on to a Brexit comment that I didn’t quite understand but Bruce certainly enjoyed it 😂
Blows my mind really that with all that history Mike and Bruce are still out there doing it and sounding pretty pretty good.
To compare to my most recent Brian gig which was near the end of last year in Toronto, the lows were obviously lower then (namely the Pet Sounds portion) however the first part of that gig remains hard to beat for me in terms of recent live shows...that said last night didn’t really have any lows to speak of.

When I saw the band a year ago - with the Omaha Symphony - they did an absolutely stellar "Caroline, No" with Jeff on lead. It was beyond beautiful. Hopefully this RAH performance with, I assume Brian E. on lead, was as well!

I'd have loved to hear California Sun in Hannover! I guess a greater portion of the German audience would have been familiar with that than with "Good To My Baby" and "Kiss me Baby", which were my emotional highlights.
But most of all I would have loved to hear "Hear Today"... How did Mike pull that off?

I love Good To My Baby......is this something new for Mike's band? I've never heard it live by Brian or the Beach Boys. Slightly off topic but I think Good To My Baby is one of those perfect early Beach Boys songs. Great music, harmonies and the shared Brian and Mike leads are top notch. Must have been great to hear live. Why doesn't Brian's camp have Al perform that one instead of giving us the entire Pet Sounds album?
An aside.....when I was a kid listening to Good To My Baby on the Spirit of America album, when Mike sings "and when I give her my love it's between her and me".....I thought he was saying...."it's between her knees". You can imagine my sense of false embarrassment when my mom was in earshot of the family console record player, and hoping she did not hear what they were not singing.

Band is tight! Cowsill on Cottonfields - very cool! Christian Love on Sail On Sailor - there are times I look away and hear Carl.
Ike's back! The guy can sing those falsettos.

I think it was not too long at all! I enjoyed so much. I took a walk during the interval and all the people was very happy, everybody in the Hall had the smiles on their faces.
