It’s also Frankensteined-together team-ups with Brian Wilson, Sting, Hope Sandoval, Dolly Parton, X, Daryl Hall, and Carole King, among others""The late Glen Campbell lived a fascinating life and died an inspiring death. Campbell started out as an ace session guitarist — part of the mythic Wrecking Crew who played on countless pop classics in the early ’60s. When Brian Wilson decided that he couldn’t tour with the Beach Boys anymore, Campbell stepped in as a repalcement. In the late ’60s and early ’70s, Campbell found crossover pop-country stardom, hosting a variety show and recording huge songs like the #1 hits “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Southern Nights.” Campbell died in 2017, at the age of 81, after fighting a long, public battle with Alzheimer’s and reckoning with his own mortality on record. In 2011, the ailing Glen Campbell released Ghost On The Canvas, an affecting and stripped-down album that included covers of songs by people like Paul Westerberg and Jellyfish’s Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. Now, as Rolling Stone reports, Campbell’s estate has announced plans to release the posthumous LP Duets – Ghost On The Canvas Sessions. It’ll feature songs from Ghost On The Canvas that have been reworked as duets, featuring Campbell and many of his famous friends and admirers. Duets includes the version of “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” with Elton John, which John previously featured on his own 2021 album The Lockdown Sessions. It’s also Frankensteined-together team-ups with Brian Wilson, Sting, Hope Sandoval, Dolly Parton, X, Daryl Hall, and Carole King, among others. Campbell’s estate has shared two tracks. One is a version of Guided By Voices’ 2000 song “Hold On Hope,” which now features country star Eric Church. The other is a take on Jakob Dylan’s 2010 track “Nothing But The Whole Wide World” that now features Eric Clapton."

Others who participated in the album include Daryl Hall and Dave Stewart, Linda Perry, Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star fame, Brian Setzer, and X, but it has not yet been announced to which songs they contributed." For reference, this is the song 'Strong' by Glen which will feature Brian:

I'd implore anyone who hasn't to watch the 2014 doc - I'll Be Me - where the Campbell family bravely & powerfully went public with Glen's battle with Alzheimer's disease and his goodbye tour.
I'm really interested to see how this collection goes!!! Thanks, Rick-brah!!!

Good news! Thank you for sharing, Al, and for the Glen version, Rick.
Wonder if BW took a lead vocal or there’ll be Wall of Brian-style backing vocals? Wouldn’t mind either.

Just listened to the new take on the superb "Hold On Hope", and didn't make it past the 60 second mark. Glen's original version was, and remains, just spellbinding and deeply moving. Sadly, at least to these ears, the addition of Eric Church serves only to diminish the song. Completely underwhelmed.
As for Brian's announced contribution, the phrase "Frankensteined-together team-ups" just makes my blood run colder.

It must be something to do with the first word that comes to mind at the mention of Frankenstein. I shan't be listening. I find something seriously unsettling about having deceased musicians duet from beyond the grave. Unless they left something in their will sanctioning such an act. No offence meant to Rick for linking it.

I'm really interested to see how this collection goes!!! Thanks, Rick-brah!!! Saw him on that final tour. Guitar playing and singing were mostly great, but he was struggling with what song to do next and was relying on his daughter and other band members. I gather things had been similar - to some extent, at least - on the previous tour. It was still wonderful but sad to see. I was in tears.

At least now we know what Brian was doing in the studio for after his final tour concluded.

It goes to show what a group of snobs some of us are ( myself included), who knock this before they've even heard it.

From Rolling Stone's website:
"With the blessing of Campbell’s widow Kim, the project continued to roll along, and [Surfdog Records' Dave] Kaplan and [producer Julian] Raymond were pleasantly surprised by the number of artists who turned out to be Campbell fans. Some of those contributors, like Church, Parton, and Sting, sang to the same backing track as on the first record. 'Glen had a particular and unique phrasing, as well as a country twang,' says Sting. 'Matching and blending with his style of singing took some work, adapting my own idiosyncrasies to his.' The notoriously reclusive [Mazzy Star’s Hope] Sandoval agreed, adding her part in her home studio.
"Others — Clapton, X, Brian Wilson, and Hall and Stewart — went so far as to create entirely new tracks for their contributions; Wilson turned his pairing with Campbell (who played on early Beach Boys records and toured with the group) into a typically panoramic soundscape."
So there we are – seems this will be credited as being a brand new BW production. And I welcome that.

I'm interested to know when this was actually recorded. Was it recent?

Well.... I'll say it, I'm feeling 'Optimistic' about the new Glen/Brian track. To hear they built a whole new track to suit Brian and Glen, gives me high hopes. Of course, using terminology like 'panaramic soundstage' flushes my mind into Brian's previous works like: 'In My Moondreams', Linda's 'Adios', Neil's 'Delirious Love' and Jimmy Webb's 'Macarthur Park'. I'm talking about the 'Wall of Brian' stacked vocals. Full range array of low and high harmonies from the 'Big Fella'. Yes! I feel some of the members negativity about that and want to burst my bubble, and while I may be disappointed upon listening when the time comes, at this time, Please just let me have my moment of hope.

Have at it Rick, your moment of hope that is - I'm equally hopeful. The Glen/Elvis mash-up from a couple of years ago was really done - I wish whoever wrote the blurb you quoted hadn't said "Frankensteined"; they got things off to a bad start and handed the nay-sayers the keys to nay. The reason I raised some attention to the Glen doco is that from watching it, I got the feeling Glen's kid's and wife really care about his talent and legacy, and don't wanna fuck things up. Accentuate the positive, brew!!!

Have you listened to "Hold On Hope" from this project? Very disappointing.
That said, the subject matter/lyrical content of Brian's contribution is well chosen. We'll see.

Ghost on a Canvas is one of my favorite records of the last 20 years. No need to ruin it with a cash grab. I won’t listen only because it cannot be improved.

The documentary is 'necessary' watching. It's funny and commemorative, and it's also very sad seeing what happens to a guy with such an illness and how music still prevails. If people thought Brian's 'Long Promised Road' was a hard watch, Glen's is even heavier again.
The Eric Church collaboration, I agree is awful. It's terribly edited and doesn't sound together, so there's no battle there with me on that one. Meanwhile, the other tune they have uploaded is quite fine to me. This sounds tasteful to me, and there's enough there to compliment each other. AGD, what do you think of this? Glen Campbell and Eric Clapton - Nothing But The Whole Wide World.
I'll go on to say, I'm not even a big fan of duet albums, so overall, I'm not expecting a lot, especially when Glen's material here has already been done so gracefully. Some of those artists are also no interest to me, but anytime Brian is involved in a collaboration, my dial is tuned in and ready to hear!

Looking forward to the new track. The Elton John (“I’m Not Gonna Miss You”) collaboration is beautiful! Rick missed my fave BW almost duet- Ringo's Without Understanding. Great rocking vocals with references to Imagination and Good Vibrations too.

I picked it up the same weekend I got Smile Sessions. At the time, they said this was going to be Glen's final studio album; a couple years later, we got another, See You There, which I thought was very nice. Then a few more years after that, we got ANOTHER "final" GC album, Adios. Sorry, but I don't like the way 'the biz" milks these things to death.

That said, I’m happy to have a new BW product, when it arrives. Not sure how I’d feel if Brian’s own material was to be used in this way after he himself passes, though.

It kind of already did happen with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra album from a few years ago, and all but Carl and Dennis are still with us. And there have been various latter-day efforts to build new productions around old Carl vocals and/or Dennis tracks (e.g. the Brian May version of "Holy Man", not to mention "Waves of Love"). I think it's probably inevitable that further and more invasive "ghost collaborations" will follow in the fullness of time, not that I'm relishing the possibility. We might as well get used to them.
