Have you listened to "Hold On Hope" from this project? Very disappointing. That said, the subject matter/lyrical content of Brian's contribution is well chosen. We'll see. Well, not my cup of tea, but not shockinly produced - kinda slick, I'm sure it will please to Glen's hardcore. On the topic of hardcore types, I do feel very sorry for Guided By Voices rabid hard core completist who adore Robert Pollard and will have to buy this lest FOMO devours their little trap soul doors. It's worse a worse scenario than the one where a gaggle of single minded middle aged men had to buy the Wilson Phillips album.

To a man they fell down laughing, before one recovered enough to gasp "gotta be something to do with Brian Wilson or Jim Steinman". The latter:

Well. Alan’s obscure reference to “Brian’s Glen Campbell project” has been cleared up. As did the reason for the latest photos of Brian in the studio.

Just had confirmation that the 10/22 sessions were indeed for this.

I wonder if they pretended that Glen had gone for lunch, or gone for a cup of tea...

I wonder if they pretended that Glen had gone for lunch, or gone for a cup of tea... He just left for a few days to go to Galveston. By the time he got to Phoenix, they'd completed the recording.

And here it is... On first listen, I can't hear Brian in the background vocals, which has become his kind of trademark on such recordings. His lead vocal, frail and as expected and similar to that of 'Right Where I Belong' from LPR... A neat nod to 'Guess I'm Dumb'

Nicely produced and Glen sounds amazing considering the condition he was in at this time. Brian on the other hand doesn’t sound like he can get this mouth around the words, although tonally he sounds quite good.
Is there any word on who the backing vocalists are? Possibly Darian and Matt?

Just Darian according to the credits. So a wall of Darians?

What a great song! So many nods to 'Guess I'm Dumb' ( .. and God, how I love that song). Bravo, Glen! Bravo, Brian!

Not bad considering all the complications going on between both gentlemen. The song itself has a nice melody and I particularly like the backing vocals which I am assuming came from Brian’s camp.

Glen's voice never wavered, even right to the end. I love the nods to Guess I'm Dumb.

Glen sounds great & I do like the song, but Brian’s vocal makes this an unpleasant listen for me. I had the same problem with Right Where I Belong. It makes me very sad that this was the best take that they could get.
Sorry to be a downer.

I'm sure it's not from a lack of trying to get the best vocal take(s) as they possibly could. Hard to know what mood he was in, how he was feeling, which apparently can change by the hour with him... It's probably also a solid nod into the state of Brian's vocals these days and this is what we can now expect from the guy. He is losing his vocal abilities at a rapid rate sadly.

Brian's contribution to Strong is for me a bit better than that, though still not great, but it's a relatively minor part of the song and the rest of it is pretty darned good.

Wow at the end of the song Glenn is singing like Bill Withers with such incredible soulfulness. This event and all the commentary here has made me listen to Ghost on the canvas and the other final Glenn album whose name escapes me at this point but wow lots of Glen Campbell today and my God the man had a gift.

Good song (strong, in fact), great lead from Glen, but Brian's vocal, very sadly, isn't release worthy - and made worse by the deployed whatever pitch correction mechanism.
I think an Al appearance would have been a better match; and a nice reciprocation of Glen's appearances on Postcard.

Yes I listened to the original strong without Brian and it's quite wonderful and sadly Brian's vocals did not seem very well produced. Also the particular lines they gave him to sing are from a metrical point of view the most difficult to come out of the mouth. And the auto-tune or pitch correction what you will don't help much.
By the way on one of the songs on Glenn's ghost on the canvas album has a bust out surf solo from Dick Dale that I haven't heard before. You've all probably been enjoying it for years but such an idiot I just got turned on to it now.

I think an Al appearance would have been a better match; and a nice reciprocation of Glen's appearances on Postcard. I think criticizing Brian's vocals at this point is unnecessary. Does anyone expect a new great vocal from him? I'm not surprised by the comments here, but wonder why there is so much time spent complaining about what 'we don't like.' Why not speak to what you do like about Glen Campbell? His original 2011 album is quite good. I've had it since its release. Music can be transformative. Smiley Smile and Jan & Deans' Save For a Rainy Day sounded like musical miracles when I was listening to them in the hospital after my nearly two month stay in 2019 due to stage 4 cancer. If you're reading this then you know what I'm talking about because you enjoy The Beach Boys music. I find what I like in something not what I dislike. What do we want from music? I want joy. I tend to find what I'm looking for because it's what I seek.
