Oh dear, it suffers from a lot of the same issues Feel Flows and SOS do.
It has moments of startling clarity, and then it looks like someone has dived it afterwards and turned up the compression and brickwalled it a little. Great separation of instruments, but ultimately a massive let down.
Depressing. I was looking forward to this.

I personally think it sounds quite good. Not mind blowing or anything but I don’t have too many issues with it. Certainly better than the disaster show That was the sounds of Summer and Sail on sailor Atmos mixes, those were and still are truly horrible. I like that this mix Diles way back on the reverb that was present all over the 97 stereo mix, and I also enjoy how it sounds consistent and clean, for the most part. So far, the most quality product BRI have put out this decade.

I do not see it on my tidal app yet, so what platform are you guys listening to? Or did you have to buy the album for download? Thank you so much.

Hopefully, it'll hit the U.K. (if it hasn't already) shortly. I'll be listening through TIDAL via SONOS. Looking forward to the eventual physical release, boys 'n' girls #yeahright

Eloquently put, Giles, and I'm sure he's done the best job possible given the limitations of a 1966 4 & 8 track recording. That said, here's my take on Atmos: I've only got two ears, and they don't work as well as they did forty, fifty years ago... I don't have anything more than a very basic stereo setup... Most importantly, to my mind, Brian settled on how he wanted us to hear the album in 1966 when he mixed it to mono. Quad was once the Next Big Thing. So was Dolby 5.1. I predict Atmos will be as forgotten/"outmoded" but sooner. Oh, and being an old fogey, I prefer physical product.

Sadly it's currently not available for Amazon Prime Music yet but hopefully that will change soon as I do not subscribe to either Apple Music or Tidal (still an iPod junkie over here). Would be curious to hear how a Giles Martin mix will sound.
Not to change the subject too much but didn't Brian Wilson (or someone in his camp) once approach Giles about producing a remixed Beach Boys compilation similar to what he did for the Beatles' 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒 experiment? And apparently Giles declined? I wonder what prompted him to tackle this album?

How does it sound on a dedicated surround set up? It doesn’t translate well to 2.0 stereo on my headphones. Boomy bass, lack of midrange, “Don’t Talk” is pretty much mono except Brian’s vocals (perhaps the strings are panned to the rears?). Mike’s bridge vocals on WIBN are clean as a whistle though. Nice!
Anyone tried listening to it in genuine surround?

Presume you are listening to a binaural rendering of the atmos mix through the headphones.
To expand on gigantiskpyjamas' question: in more general terms, how do people find a binaural headphone rendering of an atmos mix compares to a rendering in a surround setup (and I suppose everything in between, e.g., atmos soundbars)

I'd should probably not totally revise, but offer some qualification on my post above, after a deeper listening session.
The mixes are pretty revelatory and good, aside from the intermittent hiss here and there, and it offers a great alternative listen.
What I found a bit off putting was the lack of reverb. Just my two cents. Hope everyone enjoys it! Happy listening.

So hard for the layman to figure out what we're really listening to. now if I just put the Bluetooth on the tidal app in my car which has a surround sound setting and maybe like 10 speakers throughout the vehicle, What will I actually be hearing I wonder. That's the best I'll be able to do in terms of trying to get it to work, so best wishes to everyone, and appreciate all these updates and reviews.

Hmmmmm...Amazon doesn't specify that it is in Atmos as it normally should. Just states that most of the tracks are Ultra HD. And a few of them aren't even that...

Is it coming up as specifically Dolby Atmos on Tidal for you?

If anyone’s up for a physical release of this mix, please consider lobbying Paul Sinclair at Superdeluxeedition.com – his music archive site has released a good number of Atmos, spatial audio and 5.1 mixes on exclusive Blu-ray audio discs, and this would (to my mind) be a bleedin’ obvious addition to his catalogue. I get the impression that he’s more of a Beatles/Bowie/Kate Bush etc fan than he is of the BBs though so worth adding your voice to the (Atmos) mix, to make sure he’s aware that there’d be demand. I hope there will be a demand!

Here's an interview with Giles Martin on the mix:
A question for y'all -- if you don't have a surround setup, does it sound any different? Just curious, since I don't have any of the streaming services carrying it or equipment that can play Atmos.

To sailor whailer and others contributing here.
My case is a little strange because I have hearing aids that have different settings, so that's kind of a separate issue. But. That aside, I was able to find the mix on tidal and to adjust the Bluetooth settings on my android phone to accommodate Adobe atmos.I played it in the car on my very good amp, speakers and subwoofer, installed, not the factory speakers.
Even with my hearing aids in normal setting and not the high fi setting, the entire listening experience is Stupendous and i'm hearing parts of the vocal and instruments I never heard before.
Again, sometimes it's hard to distinguish between what is the benefit of my very good hearing aids , the quality of the speakers or the quality of the bluetooth streaming but all in all , playing it while driving through the los angeles freeways at high volume has been really really fantastic.
and there's such a depth and complexity to the composition and orchestration that I don't believe I heard before.
Mike's vocals on that's not me stand out somehow as being so poignant and so beautiful

Was really excited for this, but I don’t have an Atmos setup. So I am streaming from Apple Music to my Klipsch the Sixes from my iPad. It sounds a bit thin and the mid lower range doesn’t match the richness of my AP Stereo 45 Vinyl or the Steve Hoffman mastered DCC gold CD. I can feel the sounds moving around more, so it could be awesome with an Atmos system with a proper receiver. The vocals are almost too raw. Like some of the magic is gone there. You hear everyone distinctly, in what seems to be the same volume. It seems like Giles was making sure we hear ALL of the sounds, but I miss the differential of sounds that emphasize the feeling of the songs.
Might try it with my Edifier S1000 MKII’s tomorrow, because they have an EQ. The clippity clops on “God Only Knows” are more pronounced, and the train sound at the end of “Caroline, No” makes you feel like the train is actually is passing by you. “I Know There’s An Answer” sounds quite pretty with the way the vocals are so distinct. Still - I feel like it overall is missing some oomph. You can hear ALL of the sounds, but I’m not sure that is the best presentation of the material. The vocals have lost a bit of their beauty - especially on “Caroline, No”. JMHO. I’d love to hear from someone with a proper Atmos setup.

As I said above I don't know if I had a proper set up. I don't know if the atmos setting on my Samsung android for Bluetooth actually created atmos in my car, but in any case I'll tell you Carl love, that I jumped when I heard that train coming and I thought it was real too!

Colour me officially confused: I've been told, by folk I trust, that...
1) no you don't need any special plugins or widgets, just headphones... or...
2) yes, you need dedicated Atmos cans.
Elucidation greatly appreciated.
A further observation: has Brian in any way endorsed this (social media posts don't really count) ? Was he consulted, has he listened to it ?

I suspect Giles Martin saying “the Beach Boys came to me…” means “Iconic – the company that owns every inch of The Beach Boys from their falsetto to their scrotum hair – came to me and said ‘Giles, baby, we need to hop on to this bandwagon, and Steve Wilson’s diary’s full, so…’.”
