For those who can access it, Long Promsed Road is being shown on Sky Arts in the UK at 9pm this Saturday, following yet another showing of the Anaheim Stadium 76 gig misread this as “this evening” (skimming…) and just sat through (well, slept through …) half an hour of The Joy of Painting. Must pay more attention…

Excuse my foggy memory, but how long was it between the "Long Promised Road" documentary being announced to actual release date? It seemed like 2 /3 years. We've had nothing solid in terms of actual announcement or promotion yet so are we talking years before we get it? Also, unless they're going to dive in deeper into other eras of the band, what are we going to get that we haven't already seen in American Band, Endless Harmony and Doin' It Again? Not to mention the Brian Wilson Biography / BBC Wouldn't It Be Nice? I suppose it depends on what new archival / recovered footage has been found - the recent Dennis interview after POB was an amazing find. Hopefully more of Billy Hinsche's / Ed Roach's personal footage will be used? There was this thing called CoVid... Oh yes, I remember, the transition to the new CoVid video format undoubtedly delayed the release.

It was announced in 2018 that Long Promised Road was in the works for a 2019 release so it wasn't COVID that delayed it beyond that? ultimateclassicrock.com/brian-wilson-2019-documentary/And lets face it, it didn't require millions of dollars of editing / special effects or an enormous promotional push and premiere, so what took it so long? It went straight to streaming anyway didn't it?

From a recent interview with Mike, nothing new apart from his comment to the following question. www.forbes.com/sites/nancyberk/2023/09/15/mike-love-shares-beatles-inspiration-and-why-the-beach-boys-are-going-country/?sh=5349d8d74591Might there be a future collaboration with the group’s surviving co-founders Brian Wilson and Al Jardine (Dennis Wilson died in 1983. Carl Wilson died in 1998.)? “There is a documentary coming out on the Beach Boys. I don't know when it's set to air. But we're definitely getting together for that. And that will be pretty nice because, you know, my cousin Brian and I go back to childhood and young adulthood— teenage years and everything. So, he went to high school with Alan Jardine.” Now that could mean anything about 'getting together for that', he could simply mean the documentary will be the 'getting together'. Or!? He could mean it in some sort of reuniting physical sense too.... Ooooh, these Beach Boys are very 'crafty'... Mr. Jardine ol' Chap, spill the beans for us.

Rick, this is the exact subject matter of the first page of this thread. And you are correct, we're all trying to figure out what these mystical words mean. Answering a couple of generic questions at a film opening and then sitting in separate seats is very different from actually getting together and participating in a documentary for either a performance or an interview.

Apparently they did get together for the documentary, according to a recent interview with Mike Love. Relevant info in the quote box, taken from what looks to be another clickbait story on the BBs playing with Jimmy Page, but with some new info towards the end.

This is extraordinary and what does a little acapella singing mean? Just him and Brian for a couple of bars or all five of them singing something together in a meaningful way. Oh Heaven is this is amazing.

This is extraordinary and what does a little acapella singing mean? Just him and Brian for a couple of bars or all five of them singing something together in a meaningful way. Oh Heaven is this is amazing. I think the key phrase is "David Marks and Al Jardine, Brian and myself and Bruce [Johnston] got together." That's what I want to believe, anyway, with all my heart. Even if it's just for thirty seconds singing "Their Hearts...", that would mean so much.

If it's the five of them singing together maybe Dave on guitar, and it's only 30 seconds I would play that 30 seconds over 10,000 times I'm sure as we all would. Really can't wait to see what this is. At the Dolby I spent 4 hours staring at them together not knowing what they were saying or thinking, and there was no interview of them collectively released, and I thought maybe that was the last time they would ever be together. So this is bound to be extraordinary in and of itself I agree.

WOW! this makes me even more excited for the doc!!! sounds amazing!!!!! To see the guys together, AND HEAR THEM SING, will be PRICELESS to me and all of us!! Gosh, that gave me an ear to ear grin reading this !!!
and so happy to hear that Brian and Mike can get together, and not get into business/politics... that's great. thats all i really wish for at this point. To see the two cousins that grew up together, changed pop music forever, and wrote countless hits together, finally able to put aside their differences and be in eachother's company again is heartwarming. That's what family is for. At the end of the day, when it's all said and done, you should be able to put aside your differences and still love each other. It's easy to tell how much Mike and Bri love each other. Glad that wounds have seemingly began to heal. Thank G-d, before its too late.
And nothing negative to say from Mike. He's come a long way from the days of constantly throwing his bandmates under the bus. I think he is much more mature, at peace, and comfortable in his own skin, and with his own legacy these days.

"And we even did a little bit of a cappella singing together on the beach at Paradise Cove, where the first album cover with our Pendleton woolen shirts on that little old truck that they had on the sand..."
I'll call it now, if it makes the cut, THAT will be the highlight of the documentary.

You locals know about Paradise Cove and I'm sure many of our members here have visited when they were in town. It's not really easy to get to, through a long winding road to the beach so they must have shut the place down from tourists if they were going to film there I guess.
And if you're bringing a whole camera crew and you're bringing five let me say older or even elderly Beach Boys there, you're not going to film for 5 or 10 minutes so there must be hours of footage to make it worth their while.
Documentaries always have extra bonus materials so I think there's probably a lot to learn if the entire footage is released. And who knows what precisely will be in the actual completed documentary itself.
The Beach Boys being together and doing some singing together is something I've been hoping and dreaming for since the end of the reunion tour and 50th Anniversary so this will certainly be very very meaningful to all of us.
I can't imagine that they producers would not let us see this by keeping it out of the final cut. Mike doesn't like to have any performances publicize that weren't up to standard so who knows how they sound spontaneously with just a pitch pipe or remembering the right key. Okay spinning my wheels about this in a silly way so best wishes to everyone and let's see what happens.

An interesting thing about Paradise Cove, is that when I was growing up in the San Fernando Valley, my parents would drive us to the beach. We'd drive up Pacific Coast Highway, past Malibu, and always pass Paradise Cove, to go to Zuma Beach. My dad wouldn't go to Paradise Cove because he said it cost money to get in. After I grew up and got my own car, I drove to the beaches, from Santa Monica, to Will Rogers, to Malibu, to Zuma, to Leo Carrillo, Ventura County Line, all the way up to Pt. Mugu. Hundreds of times. But I always skipped Paradise Cove - because all the other beaches were free. Apparently it's still that way - checking the internet says it costs from $45 to $65 to park there. You can, however, park on Pacific Coast Highway for free, and walk down the long road to the beach.

The several times I went to Paradise Cove, parking was in the $20-25 range, but free with validation if you ate at their restaurant. That was back in the 2000s, so I don't know how it works now. Paradise Cove has very limited parking spaces available to begin with.

Last time it was there it was $10 during the week for parking with validation which means that you spent over $35 at the restaurant which is impossible not to do, and I believe it's $20 on the weekend with validation. Their famous bloody marys are like 24 bucks each last time I checked so you cannot walk in there without spending $50 per person.
But if you want to go to Paradise Cove and stand where the Beach Boys sand and then that's where you got to go

Somebody should do a photoshop or AI rendition of Jim Rockford carrying the surf board along with the Beach Boys.

Has McCartney ever said anything about post-Pet Sounds/Smile Beach Boys music? There's a radio interview from December 1971 in which he says he loves the Beach Boy's latest album (which in that case was "Surf's Up").
