Brian: There are always bits of new melodies in my head but nothing complete enough to inspire me to record. That’s disappointing. It indicates we’re a long way from hearing any new songs from Brian, although perhaps there’s still a backlog of material. Whatever happened to the “rock” album Brian’s been talking about for a decade? A decade ? Try over three - since 1999.

Just a quick and dirty photoshop - I'm no expert. By the way, how do you get the large picture to appear here, instead of a small thumbnail version? View AttachmentCool! And is that dog dooky under the piano? Nice touch. 😁 Yeah, but it could use some tweaking. Maybe clean up those piano legs/feet and sandbox frame and position Banana so he's more visible and obvious. And is that dog shit in the sand that I see there? And what's that yellow thing on the left? A lamp shade or a miniature teepee? As far as picture size, There's a limit here. If I remember right, it's about 1 Meg or so. Use MS Paint to adjust to the best picture size and resolution you can. Petsite does a good job here of getting very large sharp pictures to fit within the limit.

I think it's fair to say at this point, there won't be a 'Rock n Roll' album from Brian. As anticipated as his fans are and as he himself has acknowledged, but I do think that moment has passed. The 'closest' he got was a couple of the tunes on the 'GIOMH' album. We are now talking 17 on years from that project alone! Tick tock tick tock goes the clock..... I hope I'm truly wrong, but I can't see a lot of new BW material coming our way too soon, let alone the 'Rock n Roll' album.

There would have to be a split screen I guess, cause I seem to hear two pianos.
If Brian layered and overdubbed tracks, for the last 50-60 years, and used the human voice as an instrument, what would prevent him from doing that same thing with a piano, to create that effect? While there is nothing wrong with doing that per se, the cover says reimagined for solo piano, and even when it's the same guy playing and the same piano that's overdubbed it's not a solo piano version to me.
BTW, is the new record in mono or stereo?

That would be a bit under three decades.

6/10 and brief review in the latest issue of Uncut, who call it "a curious beast... Undeniably moving" though "many of these songs also feel like polite recital pieces, so that Wilson often sounds like a shadow of himself." Just imagine if Brian had done this during the "bangin'" years of the '80s! Then let them say " a curious beast... Undeniably moving". Wouldn't have been "...feels like polite recital pieces" then, now would it? Brian, "Let's Do It! I don't need charts. Let's try that like this! I've got a groove in mind." "Faders up! Loud, I want it loud!"

Nope. Don't know where, but that's not Brian's house. Location: Wilshire Ebell Woman's Club, 743 S. Lucerne Blvd, Los Angeles Notice he's wearing the same outfit, so that's where the cover photo session was.

Of course there is nothing wrong with Brian’s doing it. He is still a solo, notwithstanding his technique. I have no idea what the format is.

Right. I remember an interview a long time ago where Brian answered affirmatively when asked if he believed a writer only had just so many songs in him. But I like it when he says he has a ton of completed songs ready to record.

Just rotting away on a hard drive somewhere. Hmm lets see…. Some 1983-85 stuff The Wilson Project Material: 1986-87 Several BW 88 outtakes: 1987-88 Sweet Insanity and outtakes: 1988-1991 A couple dozen or so tracks with Andy Paley: 1992-1995 Several imagination outtakes: 1996-1998 TLOS outtakes and alts + some other stuff he recorded: 2006-2009 Twgmtr outtakes apparently around a dozen or so: 2011-2012 Npp outtakes (kinda overlap with the twgmtr stuff): 2012-2015 LPR soundtrack stuff: 2019 And there’s probably some stuff I’m forgetting. So yeah, there’s probably enough material here for a good 5 5 disc box sets. I would much rather them focus on getting this stuff out instead of trying to get a 79 year old to pump out an entire albums worth of new originals or something like that. Unfortunately, I don’t see this happening anytime soon.

I need more secret friends with loads-o-files and some more cloud space to keep them safe and movable. Some of the stuff I used to have is trapped on the hard drives of my old Win7 and XP machines. I have the best of it on Cd comps thru to 1998, but not too much after that. The public sharing of files has been pretty much shut down for The Beach Boys/Brian outtakes. They want to give Mark and Alan the freedom to do with it what they will. Unfortunately, "and when they get the time and agreements from the suits to release". Wish they could do a GoFundMe deal to get the digital files to Cd from the late (and early) '60s as soon as possible. Feel Flows proves how amazing it can be done when moved away from Mp3, and even FLAC files.

But then there's those demos and live songs Brian put on his own website!

So it’s still FLAC, or some other similar lossless audio format.

So it’s still FLAC, or some other similar lossless audio format. Hey Matt. Yeah I heard him talking about that. I believe most of it is now digital, but not all is finished off with the mixing and editing. What I'm complaining about is not having everything that's been released as hard-copy Cd. If Mark and Alan could go back over all the late-'60s stuff that came out as files-to-buy, put that on Cd, it would sound better to us demanding audiophiles. Some artists go to the trouble of doing analogue vinyl releases, though I don't think all of The Beach Boys stuff was. Or was some of it? Did A. P. produce the few they did in analogue? I only got the Cd versions, but I do have some of the digital vinyl by Sam Beam. Sam puts out music that is only on vinyl, so if you want it that's how you get it. No download cards included, tho his BandCamp site has added one of his live ones for an additional cost. To me, I can't tell the difference. It does not sound like analogue vinyl. Complicated world. Now cassettes have come back on the market... Feel Flows sounds brilliant. Mark created a new version of the basic albums in two-speaker stereo. He also got some very surround-like mixes on a two-speaker system. Especially on Disc #5. Those mixes float around in the air! The files of the late '60s releases don't. It will take more work to make them sound the best they can. I've read there is a site that produces something that they think sounds as good, even better, but I've yet to sign up for those services. I'm not getting into the argument about streaming. It doesn't produce the quality I'm looking for, and that includes movies. I believe Blu-ray is best for everything, but again, seems to be cost prohibitive. Have you, can only guess you have, compared let's say "Awake" on Feel Flows to what we had on FLAC/Mp3 before? I don't think there is any comparison. It sounds much better on Feel Flows. There's just something about scrubbing up these songs for professionally made compact discs. I don't believe it's snake oil.

At home I enjoy it when my son plays piano renditions of BB songs so I quite like Brian's versions as extensions of that. Shameless plug - a few years ago my son put some of his piano renditions on his YouTube channel at link (need to scroll down a bit, past his more recent compositions and amongst renditions of classical pieces). To manage expectations, he'd be the first to say they're straightforward versions.

All 3 are rather lovely. For the first time since 2008, I’m actually excited about an upcoming Brian release. I'm excited, but I'm also hoping the vinyl is a decent press. Warped, off centre and/or dirty/noisy vinyl is starting to become a thing that's too often in my latest purchases...
