So...I guess my wife and I now host a Beach Boys podcast. We call it Tune X Podcast. So far we've only released an introductory episode, but we have several in the can that just need some post-production. It's not like Sail On (which I highly recommend, btw) -- we're not going chronologically and going into deep dives, but instead we talk about various topics. Think of it as a Beach Boys equivalent to, say, Fab 4 Free 4 All.
Should be on most major providers now. (TuneIn is still pending.) Spoiler: we will probably record a new episode next Friday night.
Web site is tunex.fab4it.com. It's basically a WordPress site that powers the podcast feed, but I'm adding some features to it, one of them being a "This Day in Beach Boys History" bar. It's a work-in-progress that's a bit rough (especially on mobile devices) but usable. If you click on the episode link, you'll get an embedded player.

Thanks for letting us know about this - looking forward to future eps. A really nice touch recording it with the ocean waves in the background. I know exactly what Lisa means when talking about having an emotional connection with the BB's music that you don't get with anyone else: The Beatles are my 2nd favourite group but are more of an intellectual appreciation and are quite some way behind my love of the BBs.
Talking about The Beatles gives me the opportunity to trot out 2 (tangential) connections I have to them. First is that my dad, who was from the Dingle, knew Ringo (Roy Trafford, Ringo's best mate, was my dad's cousin) and secondly I was born in the same hospital as Macca. But my dad is no longer with us and the hospital has been demolished: such is the way of things.

Thank you both, that was a great listen. As well as alt.music and rec.music another favourite was the binaries group.

Episode 2: White puff glistening shadowy WOW! Having had a chance to let the new F eel Flows: The Sunflower & Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 package settle into their ears and minds, Lisa and Sean share their thoughts not only on this shiny new archival release but also the past quarter century in Beach Boys archival releases, all the while waxing philosophical on Sunflower, Surf’s Up, and this summer’s incarnation of the Sirius XM Beach Boys Channel. banana-and-louie.org/2021/09/16/episode-2-white-puff-glistening-shadowy-wow/

Really loved listening to the 2nd episode - a 2.5 hour version would suit me fine! As long-time fans we've been on similar journeys in our fandom and this was a great telling of how archival releases fed into that. Overall I really enjoy the conversational nature of it, with anecdotes and opinions appearing naturally. And cheers for including my comment!

For the record, my “holy shit” reaction was more of absolute shock that someone I knew was in Nashville.

Loved listening to your concert experiences. One of my favourite concert moments was during a Smile tour when the band were playing Mrs O'Leary's Cow and Brian was looking very intently at some flame effects at the front of the stage (bits of coloured silk or similar material being blown from below to look like like a flame). For a moment I thought he was going to freak out but then he broke into a big grin!

I remember at the 2004 Smile show in Chicago, Brian got up, walked over to one of the fake fires, stuck his hand over it, then pulled it away in mock pain, then trotted back to his seat.

Haha, that's absolutely brilliant! You mentioned Mark Service in the podcast - he did a sterling job at BB Stomp Conventions selling raffle tickets.

Just came across the Tune X podcast and started off with the Feel Flows episode which was excellent. I loved hearing you reminisce about buying the various archival Beach Boys CDs throughout the years and was reminded of that fateful day back in late 1997 when I myself picked up the Pet Sounds Session box and playing it non-stop the entire evening only to get hit by the worst case of stomach flu ever that same night. I was out for several days and couldn’t listen to Pet Sounds for years after that without feeling nauseous!
Anyway, great pod and great voice, Sean! Thought I was listening to Jack Rieley at first. That’s a compliment, by the way, as I absolutely love the Mt. Vernon and Fairway EP and — yes — A Day in the Life of a Tree! I’d almost pay money to hear you say ”Then the transistor left his hands and was floating in the mid-air, two feet off the ground” and perhaps Lisa could do the pied piper. Just an idea! By the way, looked you up on Instagram but your account seemed kind of desolate… Perhaps all action is taking place on Facebook (or here on EH?).

Lovely username there! 😄🇸🇪 I had an experience of the same category upon first hearing No Pier Pressure. Got it in the mail as we were getting ready to drive home for Easter. Put wife in driver's seat, CD in car stereo ... and me in the backseat reading the liner notes. I've never been able to read while travelling by car without getting motion sickness; this was no exception. Your experience does sound much more traumatic though! Thanks for the kind words! You are not the first person who compared me to Jack Rieley, btw. He could probably sing better than me, though, FWIW. (I DO have a Fiverr account for voice services if you are serious. ) Yeah, we kind of...forgot...about Insta...still trying to get the hang of it, given how photo-based it is. Hard to deal with an audio podcast on something that expects pictures. :/

Episode 5 is now out! "I guess I'm dumb, but I don't care..." In this episode recorded on vacation (we apologize for the sound quality!), Sean and Lisa, as much as they love The Beach Boys, address some of the, well…dumb moves they made. After all, they’re not perfect. Come listen to their conversation in which they ask that musical question, “What were they thinking?!”

I'm still really digging the pod so a continuing thank you from me to both of you. My recollection of Jeff's announcement that they were going to tour Smile, and I seem to remember him saying it was going to be the whole thing, was that there was a stunned silence in response, which went on for longer than was comfortable really, until Jeff said something like 'Doesn't that deserve some applause?' though I might be misremembering. I certainly wonder if he might have been a little miffed at what probably seemed to him an underwhelming response but I think we were all in shock!

Whatever the case, I thought at the time that it was strange that of all people, Jeff would be the one spearheading the project. I remember that year Darian was not in the band because he was busy with Heart. There was a rumor going around that he was fired, but from what I understand, a lot of insiders -- including Darian himself -- said no, he was not fired, and in fact Melinda specifically told him that while he's in between dates with Heart to familiarize himself with his Smile bootlegs. (As if he wasn't already familiar!)

Episode 7: The music hall... Radio City Music Hall, that is! It was 21 years ago that An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson was recorded for a July 4, 2001 broadcast on Turner Network Television. Lisa and Sean were there for the festivities. Listen in as they converse about their memories of that night, including some insider views and some discussion of what was left off the broadcast and the DVD.
