With the far-out choices for Top 5, I checked what this poll was based on. Basically nothing but 3 people's opinions. Their music editor, pop critic, and deputy music editor. Oh, and the song had to have been a #1 single. What a load of crap. Designed to get folks writing them letters. I remember The Specials, but don't even remember that song. Maybe it was only a hit in the UK. The Prodigy? Wow. Yeah, they were just top. What I will remember, is to not read The Guardian for insight on history.

‘ a corner of London that is starting to gentrify...second-hand cool...opaque references to Lenin.’ God, the Guardian is full of wank.
This thing had “winner” all over it, given that the Guardian has a reputation as an unashamed metropolitan liberal London-centric far left rag, much like the song in question. So, in that respect it ticks all the Guardian’s boxes. And if that’s not enough, Neil Tennant has been very vocal in the past about his admiration for The Specials’ hit single “Ghost Town”. Now just remind me, where did that feature in this poll? In Bingo parlance I think that’s what we Brits call a full house.

Interesting. Guess they're friends. I don't know what they have sounded like for over 25 years... I had a favorite back in the day. I used to make analogue cassette mix tapes in the '80s. I opened one with the first scene from Enemy of the State. I left the audio of the logo, with the thunder, but edited some of the dialogue - left it when the senator is killed and the dogs are barking. Then > "Suburbia"

I still have that cassette. They last a lot longer than they said they would. I've only had problems with VHS tapes going bad.
