Time for a new thread. A lot of great stuff has come out of Jamaica and the West Indian community. The topic title was named after this gem by Mr. Marley and company (more from him later). "LUY" has one of my all-time favorite introductions: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natty_Dread

This is probably my absolute favourite, not least because of that swirling Minimoog. And the bass! Talk about every note counting and nowhere one too many. A perfect record: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimoog

I remember when all Jamaican pop was called bluebeat, named after the London-based Blue Beat label. In those early days, Prince Buster reigned pretty well supreme with the likes of "Ten Commandments Of Man" (1965), which I used to own. Dodgy lyrics in this day and age but it was just a different time, folks. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Buster

Yep, he is main ska guy. But, it isn't best song. This is big fave, cheery & sunny [lengthy re-do isn't]: These 2 songs been praised by DD appreciators, including Jimmy Cliff cover: NB: Didn't listen to links due to snail youtube but each should be accurate given each song duration being matched with respective songs' in computer.

Great to see this thread so busy! Lovely tracks there, folks. Desmond Dekker was quite a revelation in 1969! Just one DD track? "Israelites", though with many others breathing down its neck. If we're getting into 2 Tone stuff, here are The Selecter with "On My Radio", a UK top ten hit for them in 1979: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Selecter

Love this instrumental hit from 1969. The Upsetters' infectious "Return of Django" was all over the radio in the UK where it reached #5 in the pop charts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Upsetters

Although I'd seen The Tennors' "Ride Yu Donkey" mentioned in reggae charts and even heard some skinhead sing it on a train, I heard the recording for the first time yesterday! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tennors

Ha! I was requested to play this during a balcony concert on King's Day in NL yesterday (along with "In The Midnight Hour" and "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay"). Reggae songs are pretty well impossible to play solo so the accompaniment necessarily became more calypso-like! It went down well though.

Next time play "Shanty Town" linked previously. It's the best song full stop.
